Possibly—but there is no proof that 24/7 YouTube streams specifically gain viewers on weekends. A large observational study of YouTube Live found a slight weekend advantage overall, with Sunday afternoon and early evening standing out. Treat that as a pattern to test against your channel’s own concurrent-viewer data, not a guaranteed boost.
What the evidence says about weekends
The YTLive study, YTLive: A Dataset of Real-World YouTube Live Streaming Sessions, analyzed 507,290 five-minute records from 12,156 YouTube Live streams collected during May and June 2024. The authors reported somewhat higher and more stable viewership on weekends, especially in afternoon hours. That describes the streams in their sample—not a forecast for every channel or current platform traffic. Read the YTLive study.
The detailed day-and-hour findings are more qualified than the broad weekend summary: median viewership did not strongly depend on the day, with only a slight increase in the median and quartiles on Sundays. In the dataset, Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00 was a higher-viewership window, peaking at 18:00. The authors also found strong afternoon periods on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. These are observed patterns, not a universal schedule.
Why that does not settle the 24/7 question
The study grouped streams by duration and reported a weekend advantage across its short-, medium-, and long-duration groups. But it did not isolate streams that ran continuously throughout the collection period. “Long” does not mean “24/7,” so the results do not establish a weekend uplift for continuous streams.

Nor does the study show that switching a stream to weekends causes more viewers. It found that shorter streams generally had higher and more consistent viewership than longer streams, while long streams were more variable. Differences in duration, time of day, topic, audience, and promotion can all complicate comparisons.
How to test weekends on your own channel
Compare matched time windows rather than raw totals. A continuous broadcast has more hours in which to accumulate views, so total views alone can make a longer period look stronger without showing that more people watched at a given time.

- Choose a consistent measure. Compare average concurrent viewers for audience strength and peak concurrent viewers for the busiest moment. Keep the two metrics separate.
- Match the hours and time zone. Compare the same hours on weekdays and weekends, using the time zone that best reflects your main audience. If your viewers are spread across regions, choose a consistent reference time and record it.
- Repeat across comparable weeks. A single weekend can be unusual. Check multiple weeks and keep content, stream format, and promotion as comparable as practical.
- Annotate unusual events. Note holidays, promotions, content changes, raids, and outages so they do not get mistaken for a normal day-of-week effect.
- Read the result as channel-specific. A Sunday lift in your own data can guide scheduling for your audience; it does not show that YouTube generally recommends your stream more on weekends.
Where to find viewer metrics in YouTube
YouTube Studio provides average and peak concurrent-viewer metrics at video and channel levels. YouTube notes that Analytics is processed and despammed, is based on Video ID, and can measure differently from Live Control Room data. Use the same metric and reporting source for both sides of a comparison, and label whether your numbers come from Studio Analytics or real-time Live Control Room.
