Yes, condom supplies in the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Villages were temporarily depleted, the organizing committee confirmed. But the committee did not confirm that the stock ran out in exactly three days: that timeline came from an anonymous athlete’s account reported by Italian newspaper La Stampa and relayed by The Guardian.
What organizers confirmed
In a statement reported by the Associated Press on February 14, 2026, the Milano Cortina organizing committee said: “We can confirm that condom supplies in the Olympic Villages were temporarily depleted due to higher-than-anticipated demand.”
The committee also said additional supplies were being delivered and would be distributed across all villages between February 14 and Monday, February 16. It said replenishment would continue through the February 22 closing ceremony. The statement confirms a temporary shortage and a plan to restock; it does not specify when the supplies first ran out or how many were initially provided.
Where the three-day claim came from
The Guardian reported on February 13 that La Stampa had described the initial supplies as “not even 10,000” and quoted an anonymous athlete saying, “The supplies ran out in just three days.” That is a media-reported account, not a duration stated in the committee’s confirmation. The initial stock figure is likewise an estimate attributed to La Stampa, not an organizer-confirmed total.

What the reported numbers do—and do not—show
IOC spokesman Mark Adams told the Associated Press on February 14: “I think 10,000 have been used, 2,800 athletes – you can go figure, as they say.” This was an aggregate figure reported during the Games, not an audited count of individual use. It cannot establish who used or took any particular item, or support conclusions about athletes’ sexual behavior.
The Associated Press also reported that Paris 2024 provided 300,000 condoms for more than 10,500 athletes. Those figures are not a like-for-like benchmark for Milano Cortina: the available reporting does not match the Games’ duration, athlete numbers, or distribution arrangements closely enough to support a fair per-athlete or per-day comparison.

Why some supplies may have left the village
Madagascar skier Mialitiana Clerc told the Associated Press that athletes sometimes take condoms home for friends outside the Olympics, describing them as “a kind of gift.” Her comment offers one possible explanation for some missing stock, but it is an anecdote—not evidence of how much of the Milano Cortina supply, if any, was taken home.
