The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony took place on Friday, February 6, 2026, so it is no longer available as a live event. In the United States, the official destinations were NBC and Peacock. A digital antenna provided the clearest no-subscription way to watch NBC where a local affiliate was available, while Peacock offered the most complete streaming coverage and event replays.
The ceremony was held at San Siro Stadium in Milan, with coverage also incorporating other Italian locations. The Games ran from February 6 through February 22, 2026. If you missed the broadcast, start with Peacock’s Olympic hub, your country’s official rights holder, or the official Olympics highlights channel.
Quick answer for U.S. viewers
- Original live broadcast: NBC, beginning at 2 p.m. Eastern on Friday, February 6, 2026.
- Streaming: Peacock carried the live ceremony, Olympic events, full-event replays and highlights.
- Free option: NBC over the air with a suitable antenna and local reception. This was not the same as a universally free Peacock stream.
- Existing pay-TV customers: NBC’s authenticated websites and apps, including NBCOlympics.com, NBC.com and the NBC Sports app, were available where a qualifying provider was supported.
- Now that the event is over: Search Peacock’s Olympic hub and the local rights holder’s replay library. Availability can change as replay windows expire.
NBCUniversal described Peacock as the most complete U.S. option because it carried every Olympic sport and event live, all 116 medal events, full-event replays, NBC programming, clips and additional Olympic features. See the Peacock Olympic schedule and NBCUniversal’s coverage announcement for the original distribution details.
Original Opening Ceremony start times
NBC confirmed that its U.S. live coverage began at 2 p.m. ET. That is the confirmed coverage start, not necessarily the exact instant of the first formal ceremonial segment.

How to find the official U.S. replay on Peacock
- Open the official Peacock website or the Peacock app.
- Sign in or create an account.
- Use the plan that includes the relevant live-sports access.
- Search for Milano Cortina 2026, or open the Olympics hub.
- Look for the Opening Ceremony replay rather than a highlights clip.
If the ceremony does not appear, the live tile may have moved into a replay section, the event may no longer be retained, or the account, plan or location may not qualify. Sign out and back in, update the app, and search for the full event title before assuming that only highlights are available.
Peacock’s original ceremony information is available in its Opening Ceremony guide. Subscription prices and promotional offers change, so check the current official signup page rather than relying on an old quoted price.

- Select the local NBC affiliate and confirm its schedule.
This route requires no recurring streaming fee, but reception varies. It also does not provide Peacock’s alternate feeds, search tools or replay library. A local NBC station’s online stream may be free in some markets, but it should not be confused with Peacock’s national Olympic feed; availability and programming varied by station.
NBC authenticated streaming
Viewers with a qualifying cable, satellite or live-TV provider could use supported NBCUniversal digital platforms. The general path was:
- Open NBCOlympics.com, NBC.com, the NBC Sports app or another supported NBCUniversal app.
- Select the Milano Cortina Olympic coverage.
- Choose the live feed or replay, if still listed.
- Select the television provider when prompted.
- Sign in with the provider’s account credentials.
If the provider is not listed, use the provider’s own NBC channel stream, Peacock, or an antenna where available. Having access to the NBC broadcast does not automatically mean that every NBC app offers unrestricted Olympic streaming.
Country-by-country official viewing guide
Olympic rights are territorial and can differ by event, language, platform and replay period. Use the broadcaster’s own website or app and confirm that it carried the Opening Ceremony specifically.

Official apps generally supported web browsers, iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV/Android TV, compatible smart TVs and supported game consoles. App support can change, so search the device’s official app store for Peacock, NBC or the local broadcaster and verify the publisher before installing.
NBC Olympics published support information for Olympic coverage in 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos, including the Opening Ceremony. That did not mean every device or feed output 4K. The result depended on the television or streaming device, app, subscription, bandwidth, regional availability, audio equipment and settings. See NBC Olympics’ video and audio quality guide.
Where supported, check the player’s quality settings, enable captions when available, and select alternate audio or descriptive-audio options offered by the local broadcaster. Accessibility features and language choices varied by service.

Common problems and fixes
“This stream is unavailable in my country”
Likely causes include geographic rights restrictions, travel, VPN or proxy detection, an expired replay, or a service that offered highlights but not the full ceremony. Turn off VPN or proxy services, confirm your current location and account country, and use the official broadcaster for your territory. Do not rely on unofficial mirror streams or assume that bypassing a regional restriction is permitted by the provider.
“I have Peacock, but I cannot find it”
Search the Olympics hub for the full event, not just “Opening Ceremony highlights.” Check the replay section, confirm that the account and plan are active, update the app, and sign out and back in. The full replay may simply no longer be retained.
“Why does the NBC app ask me to pay if NBC is free?”
Over-the-air NBC and Peacock are separate distribution paths. A local NBC broadcast may be received with an antenna, while Peacock’s national Olympic stream is a separate streaming product. Authenticated NBC apps may also require a qualifying television-provider login.
Buffering or poor picture quality
- Use Ethernet or a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection.
- Close other high-bandwidth apps.
- Restart the app and streaming device.
- Update the app and device operating system.
- Lower playback quality if buffering continues.
- Use the local NBC broadcast as a fallback where reception is available.
Watch legally and avoid misleading “free stream” links
There was no single worldwide free stream. Official access depended on the country’s rights holder, and a free public broadcaster in one territory did not make its stream globally available. Unofficial Olympics streams can be unreliable and may expose viewers to malware, intrusive advertising, privacy risks and copyright infringement. Use NBC, Peacock, the relevant public broadcaster, or another rights holder listed by the official Olympic and regional broadcaster information.
