Oracle Cloud’s Always Free resources include up to 10 TB per month of outbound data transfer, but that is a traffic allowance—not a guaranteed connection speed. The VM shape sets a separate network constraint: Oracle lists up to 50 Mbps via the internet for VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro, while A1.Flex bandwidth scales with allocated OCPUs. Whether a VPS can sustain a particular YouTube stream depends on both limits, your account’s current quotas, and the VM’s actual route to YouTube.
Bandwidth speed and monthly data are different limits
Outbound transfer measures how much data leaves the VM over time. Network bandwidth describes the rate at which the VM can send data. A stream must fit both: it needs enough sustained throughput for its encoder bitrate, and its total monthly outbound traffic must remain within the applicable allowance. Oracle’s Always Free overview lists up to 10 TB per month of outbound data; it does not promise a particular sustained speed for every VPS shape. Oracle Always Free Resources
What Oracle documents for Always Free shapes
| Shape or resource | Documented detail | What it means for streaming |
|---|---|---|
| Always Free outbound transfer | Up to 10 TB per month | A monthly traffic allowance, not a speed or a guarantee that a workload will run continuously. |
| VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro | 1 GB memory and up to 50 Mbps network bandwidth via the internet | The 50 Mbps statement applies to this shape; it should not be generalized to all OCI instances. |
| VM.Standard.A1.Flex | Always Free summary describes up to 2 OCPUs and 12 GB memory total; network bandwidth scales with allocated OCPUs | The summary does not give one fixed bandwidth figure. Check the current shape and tenancy details for your allocation. |
These are Oracle’s published Always Free resource descriptions, not a workload-specific performance guarantee. Provisioning is in the tenancy’s home region, capacity can vary by region and host availability, and Oracle says idle Always Free instances may be reclaimed when its listed CPU, network and, for A1, memory-utilization conditions are all met over a seven-day period. A stream’s network use might avoid the stated low-network condition, but that is not protection against reclamation or other service changes. Oracle Always Free Resources

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
monthly GB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × hours streamed × 0.45
For a 30-day month streamed around the clock, that becomes approximately:

monthly GB ≈ bitrate in Mbps × 324
| Constant bitrate | Approximate outbound data for 24/7 streaming over 30 days |
|---|---|
| 5 Mbps | 1,620 GB (1.62 TB) |
| 10 Mbps | 3,240 GB (3.24 TB) |
These figures are arithmetic estimates from bitrate and duration, not Oracle or YouTube measurements or guarantees. They exclude protocol overhead, traffic from other services, and any other outbound use on the instance. Leave room for those costs when comparing your estimate with the allowance. A 10 TB monthly traffic figure alone does not establish that the instance can sustain the bitrate.
Check whether your setup fits before relying on it
- Find the stream’s actual bitrate. Use the encoder’s configured output bitrate rather than estimating from resolution alone. YouTube’s recommended settings vary with resolution, codec and frame rate; consult YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions, and leave throughput headroom for stability.
- Estimate monthly outbound traffic. Multiply bitrate by expected streaming hours using the formula above, then account for overhead and other egress from the VM.
- Check the instance shape. Apply the documented 50 Mbps internet-bandwidth description only to E2.1.Micro. For A1.Flex, inspect the actual OCPU allocation and corresponding networking details rather than assuming a fixed cap.
- Verify your tenancy’s limits and status. Oracle says limits depend on payment model and tenancy state. In the OCI Console, open Limits, Quotas and Usage and check current limits, usage and account status before launching a sustained workload. See Oracle Limits by Service.
- Test the real route to YouTube. Published allowances and shape descriptions do not establish the route’s stability or performance. Test the VM and stream configuration you plan to use; do not infer reliable delivery from the monthly transfer allowance.
What the bandwidth allowance does not tell you
A VPS that pulls a source stream and re-encodes it has additional CPU and memory requirements; outbound capacity alone cannot certify that workload. The information here does not establish a particular instance allocation, codec, encoder setting, route quality, overage cost for a specific account, or guaranteed uptime. Confirm those details for your tenancy and setup rather than treating the Always Free figures as a promise of uninterrupted YouTube delivery.
