What Dan Slepian says about the documentary
NBC News’ Gadi Schwartz interviewed Slepian, Dateline’s senior investigative producer, about the film. The interview listing frames Randolph’s story around murder-for-hire plots, six marriages and four former wives who died. Those are descriptions of the program’s premise, not a finding that all four deaths were crimes. The NBC interview listing identifies Schwartz as the interviewer and Slepian as the guest.
Slepian has covered the case over many years. PEOPLE described him as a veteran journalist and quoted him saying, “Randolph is the most unusual murder defendant I’ve ever covered by far.” Director Chris Smith described the film’s approach this way: “The documentary takes the audience behind the camera to show what was happening.” Both quotes appear in PEOPLE’s article syndicated by AOL, published September 28, 2026.
What is in The Widower: ’Til Death Do Us Part?
The film follows Slepian’s reporting as the case unfolded, beginning in 2008. According to PEOPLE, Smith tells the story from Slepian’s perspective and incorporates footage Slepian captured while accompanying detective Dean O’Kelley. That material includes a reenactment of Randolph finding his wife and shooting a man he described as an intruder, along with one-on-one moments between Slepian and Randolph. These scenes are the documentary’s reported contents; they should not be mistaken for an independent account of disputed case details.

Woman & Home’s release coverage, dated September 30, 2026, describes the documentary as 90 minutes long and says it is streaming on Netflix. Availability can vary by country and change over time.
How the Netflix film differs from the 2021 Dateline series
The 2026 documentary is not the same production as NBC’s earlier The Widower. The title, format and point of view help distinguish them.

The case behind the documentary
The case centers on the May 2008 deaths of Randolph’s sixth wife, Sharon Causse, and handyman Michael Miller. Randolph told dispatchers that Causse had been shot and that he had shot an intruder. PEOPLE reported that prosecutors alleged Miller had been hired to stage a robbery and kill Causse; that allegation should remain attributed to prosecutors rather than presented as an independently established account of every detail.
PEOPLE reports that Randolph was convicted in 2017 of conspiracy and two murders and sentenced to death. The Nevada Supreme Court overturned that conviction and ordered a new trial. He was convicted again in 2023 and sentenced in April 2024 to 60 years to life. The reporting says the overturned case involved disputed prior-bad-act evidence concerning a wife’s death for which Randolph had been acquitted. For exact legal reasoning and statutory details, consult the court’s opinion and sentencing record rather than relying on a documentary summary.
