Crunchyroll has acknowledged that it is investigating claims of unauthorized access to customer-service ticket information handled through a third-party support operation reportedly connected to TELUS Digital. A threat actor claimed to have taken millions of records, but the headline figures, the alleged access route and claims about payment data have not been independently verified. Crunchyroll said its investigation had found no evidence of continuing unauthorized access at the time of its statement.
This is not confirmation that eight million Crunchyroll users were breached, that passwords were stolen or that credit-card numbers were exposed.
What happened?
According to TechCrunch’s March 24, 2026 report, a threat actor claimed to have gained access through an account associated with a Crunchyroll support operation. The alleged access reportedly reached customer-support systems, including Zendesk, and involved downloading support records.

Reporting identified TELUS Digital as the relevant outsourcing or support-vendor connection. Crunchyroll said it was investigating apparent access to customer-service ticket information and had not identified evidence of ongoing unauthorized access. That statement confirms an investigation and possible ticket-data exposure; it does not establish the attacker’s full account of what was taken.

Details about malware, lateral movement or an Okta single-sign-on compromise came from the attacker or secondary cybersecurity reporting. They should be treated as claims, not independently proven facts.
Is this the same as the TELUS Digital breach?
Not necessarily. TELUS Digital separately disclosed unauthorized access to a limited number of its systems, said it contained that incident, engaged outside forensic specialists, added security measures and contacted law enforcement. Available reporting has treated the alleged Crunchyroll-related access as potentially separate from that corporate incident.

The most accurate description is that the alleged Crunchyroll access was reportedly linked to a TELUS Digital support operation. No public primary source cited here establishes that TELUS Digital’s separately disclosed incident definitively caused a breach of Crunchyroll.

The threat actor reportedly claimed access to approximately eight million support-ticket records, including about 6.8 million unique email addresses. Some reports also repeated claims of roughly 100 GB of data, analytics information and payment-related details.

Those numbers and categories have not been independently verified by the strongest available reporting. “Eight million records” is not the same as eight million people: records can include duplicate tickets, historical contacts, prospective customers or multiple entries for one account.
What information may be involved?

Support tickets can still contain sensitive material—such as billing questions, account-recovery details or information users typed to customer service—even if passwords and full card numbers were not present. Conversely, a ticket-system exposure does not automatically mean the main streaming-account database was compromised.

What Crunchyroll users should do now
- Reset your Crunchyroll password. Use a long, unique password that you have never used elsewhere. Crunchyroll’s account-compromise guidance recommends an immediate reset when compromise is suspected.
- Review and deactivate unfamiliar devices. Open Crunchyroll account settings and use Device Management to deactivate devices you do not recognize. See the service’s suspicious-access instructions.
- Change reused passwords elsewhere. If the old Crunchyroll password was used for email, shopping, social media or financial services, replace it on every site—starting with your email account. Reused credentials are useful for credential-stuffing attacks even when password theft has not been confirmed.
- Expect convincing phishing. Be wary of messages asking for a password, payment details, “verification” or urgent action. Crunchyroll says it will not request account details through social media, text or phone, and advises users not to click suspicious links or open unexpected attachments. Follow its phishing guidance.
- Monitor financial accounts. Review bank and card statements and report unfamiliar transactions. Do not assume that card replacement is mandatory: full payment-card exposure has not been confirmed in the available reporting.
- Use official support channels. If you see unauthorized activity, contact Crunchyroll through the Help Center, not through a link in an unsolicited email or message.
What remains unknown
- How many individual people—rather than records or email addresses—were affected.
- Whether the records involved current subscribers, former subscribers or people who only contacted support.
- Whether passwords, full card numbers, tokenized payment data or only billing-related metadata were accessible.
- Whether any support tickets contained identity or account-recovery information.
- Whether the alleged dataset has been publicly posted or sold.
- Whether Crunchyroll will send formal notices to affected individuals.
- Whether regulators or law enforcement have confirmed the scope.
A lawsuit’s assertions are allegations in a pleading, not judicial findings. Likewise, a database listing an “unknown” status does not prove that the investigation is unfinished or that no private notifications have occurred.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Crunchyroll is investigating an alleged support-system intrusion reportedly connected to a TELUS Digital operation. Customer-ticket exposure is the company-linked concern; the claims of eight million records, 6.8 million email addresses and payment-card theft remain unverified. Secure your account and watch for phishing, but do not assume every user was affected or that card replacement is automatically required.
