The most widely reported prompt is:
Create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me.
You can try it in ChatGPT by uploading a portrait and asking for the transformation. However, everything you know about me is trend language—not a command that gives ChatGPT unrestricted access to your life or the internet. The result may be influenced by the current chat, the uploaded image, saved memories, relevant past conversations, custom instructions, or connected services, depending on your settings.
What is the ChatGPT caricature trend?
The trend is a user-created image prompt, not a separate official ChatGPT mode. A person uploads a selfie or portrait and asks ChatGPT to reinterpret it as a caricature, usually with visual clues about their identity. The finished image might show a teacher with books and a classroom, a musician with instruments, a programmer beside several screens, or a pet owner surrounded by animals and household objects.
It became widely visible across social media during the first half of February 2026. Reports appeared on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms, but there is no reliable public evidence establishing one definitive creator or original platform. It is more accurate to say that the format spread across social media than to claim that it began in one particular place.

The appeal comes from four elements: personalization, humor, surprise, and shareability. Users are not simply requesting a cartoon portrait. They are asking the model to turn an interpretation of their work or personality into a visual scene.
| Format | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Caricature | A recognizable likeness with deliberately exaggerated features or expressions. |
| Cartoon portrait | A stylized illustration that may be simplified without strongly exaggerating the face. |
| Avatar | A representative profile image that does not necessarily look much like the real person. |
| Photo filter | A mostly automatic transformation applied to an existing photograph. |
| ChatGPT caricature trend | A portrait-based caricature that adds job, hobby, lifestyle, or personality-related props and surroundings. |
The viral ChatGPT caricature prompt
The most commonly reported version is:
Create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me.
A shorter variation is:
Create a caricature of me based on everything you know about me.
Wording varies between posts. There is no evidence that a particular punctuation mark, capitalization choice, or hidden phrase is required. The prompt works because it leaves the model room to interpret the person and invent a scene, but that freedom also makes the result less predictable.
If you are a new ChatGPT user or have memory turned off, the output may be fairly generic. You can still get a personalized result by stating the relevant details directly in the current message.
How to make a caricature in ChatGPT
As of August 10, 2026, the current image workflow uses ChatGPT Images 2.0. ChatGPT Images is available on the web, iOS, and Android across all ChatGPT tiers. Paid plans also have access to the optional Images with thinking feature; OpenAI’s current help documentation lists that feature for Plus, Pro, and Business, with Enterprise and Edu availability described as forthcoming.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open ChatGPT. Start a new conversation, or open the Images area. OpenAI’s current instructions also describe the path More → Images. Labels and icons can vary slightly between the web and mobile apps.
- Choose a source photo. Use the attachment control to upload a clear portrait. A front-facing or three-quarter head-and-shoulders photo is usually the best starting point for likeness.
- Enter the prompt. Paste the viral wording, or use the more controlled version below.
- Generate the image. Wait for ChatGPT to create the caricature. Generation time and available usage can vary by account and service conditions.
- Revise the result. Open the image and use a follow-up instruction, the selection tool, or the editor controls to adjust the face, props, background, or aspect ratio.
- Save or download it. Generated images are automatically saved in ChatGPT’s Images area. Remember that downloading an image does not delete the original chat or uploaded source file.
OpenAI says an existing image can be transformed simply by uploading it in a conversation and describing the desired change. The current editor supports conversational edits, selection-based edits, aspect-ratio changes, undo, redo, cancel, and save. Selection edits are useful but not perfectly precise: a change can extend beyond the highlighted area.
Choose the source photo carefully
A good portrait improves likeness, but a photo can reveal more than the face. Before uploading, check both the person and the surroundings.
- Use clear lighting and a visible face.
- Prefer a front-facing or three-quarter portrait with minimal blur.
- Crop out unnecessary surroundings.
- Remove or cover work badges, documents, certificates, mail, screens, private messages, addresses, signs, and license plates.
- Do not upload another person’s image without permission.
- Avoid using children’s photos for a novelty trend, particularly if you plan to publish the result.
A workplace photo may help communicate a profession, but it can also expose an employer, building, client information, or confidential material. If the job matters to the image, it is usually safer to describe the role in text and upload a tightly cropped portrait.
A better prompt for a more controllable result
The viral wording is quick and surprising, but it is underspecified. This version tells ChatGPT what information to use and what to avoid:
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteCreate a playful, recognizable caricature of me based only on the uploaded photo and the details in this message. Show me as a [job or role] surrounded by [three relevant objects]. Use a colorful hand-drawn illustration style with mildly exaggerated facial features. Keep my face recognizable, make the result flattering rather than insulting, use a clean background, and do not add text, logos, badges, documents, or identifying location details.
Replace the bracketed sections with specific information. For example, you might name a role and three props rather than asking the model to guess every part of the scene. Limiting the number of objects also reduces clutter and unrelated inventions.
For a profile picture, add:
Make it a square profile image with my face centered, a simple background, and enough space around my head and shoulders. Do not include text or logos.
For a more dramatic cartoon, replace mildly exaggerated with boldly exaggerated but still recognizable. If you want a flattering result, say so directly. Avoid words such as brutal or savage unless you genuinely want the model to emphasize unflattering features.
You can describe visual qualities instead of asking for an exact living artist’s signature style. For example, request bold ink lines, muted watercolor, retro newspaper cartooning, or glossy 3D animation rather than copying a named living artist.
How to fix a poor caricature
Image generation is iterative. Small, targeted revisions are usually more useful than restarting with a completely different request. Try one of these follow-ups:
Rank #2
If the face is too generic
Make the caricature more recognizable. Preserve my hairstyle, glasses, face shape, skin tone, and expression from the uploaded photo. Do not replace me with a generic character.
If the exaggeration is too strong
Reduce the exaggeration. Keep only subtle caricature features while preserving my actual likeness.
If ChatGPT guessed the job incorrectly
Replace the current work setting with [accurate job]. Use only these props: [list]. Remove all unrelated objects.
If the background contains too much information
Keep me and the main props, but simplify the background to a plain light-colored studio backdrop. Remove logos, signs, screens, and extra people.
If the image is the wrong shape
Regenerate this as a square profile image with my face centered and enough space around my head and shoulders.
If a model changes a feature that matters to you, describe the feature plainly and ask it to preserve it. This can improve consistency, but an image model should not be treated as a tool for guaranteed biometric precision.
Why does ChatGPT seem to know so much about the user?
The phrase based on everything you know about me makes the trend sound as if ChatGPT has an unrestricted personal dossier. That is not a technically precise description. Several different sources can contribute to an unusually personalized result:
- The current conversation: anything you have written in the chat can provide context.
- The uploaded image: clothing, objects, surroundings, facial expression, and the setting can suggest a profession or lifestyle.
- Saved memories: details ChatGPT has retained for future personalization.
- Reference chat history: when enabled, relevant information from earlier conversations may influence a response.
- Custom instructions: preferences and background information supplied in account settings.
- Connected services: information from apps or other features that you have authorized, where applicable.
- Visual associations: the model may infer a familiar stereotype from objects or clothing. A laptop, microphone, medical scrubs, makeup brushes, or a pet can produce a convincing-looking guess without revealing a hidden fact.
OpenAI distinguishes saved memories from reference chat history. Saved memories are retained details; reference chat history allows relevant information from previous conversations to be used when that setting is available and enabled. ChatGPT does not automatically reread every past conversation for every request.
That means a caricature can look uncannily personal because it combines a few strong visual signals with common associations. It does not establish that ChatGPT has accurately discovered your personality, private life, or psychological profile.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Does ChatGPT search the internet for personal information?
Not ordinarily for a standard caricature request. In the normal workflow, the model can use the uploaded image and the context available in the conversation. A caricature prompt does not automatically mean ChatGPT searches your name, social-media accounts, or the wider internet.
Some ChatGPT modes and connected features can use web search or other tools when invoked or enabled. OpenAI’s Images 2.0 documentation says its thinking mode can use tools, including live web search, in appropriate workflows. That is different from assuming that every ordinary image request performs a search for personal details.
If you do not want the model to draw on previous context, say so in the prompt—but treat that as an instruction, not a technical privacy guarantee. The reliable controls are your chat mode, memory settings, connected-service permissions, and account data controls.
A more private version of the prompt
Use this wording when you want to supply the relevant information yourself:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Create a caricature of me using only the uploaded photo and the information in this message. Do not use saved memories, prior chat history, connected apps, or inferred sensitive traits. Show me as a [job or hobby] with [specific props]. Use a friendly, colorful caricature style, preserve my recognizable features, and keep the background generic.
This can reduce unnecessary speculation, but a prompt cannot replace a privacy setting. If it is important that prior conversations or memories are not used, start a Temporary Chat and review personalization and connected-service settings before uploading the image.
Privacy risks to consider before uploading
The main concern is not that the finished cartoon is automatically a secret dossier. The concern is aggregation. A high-resolution face combined with a job title, employer, location, family details, hobbies, pets, routines, or plans can form a much more useful profile than any one detail alone.
Security experts cited by Euronews and in a Quick Heal cybersecurity briefing warned that this kind of aggregation could make phishing, impersonation, fake profiles, or social-engineering messages more convincing. These are credible risk assessments, not proof that the caricature trend itself has already caused a documented wave of fraud.
Before using the trend, ask whether the image needs all of the following:

- Your exact employer, workplace, city, or location.
- Your full name or contact details.
- Family members’ names or photographs.

In most cases, a generic description such as software developer is safer than naming the employer and office. Do not add sensitive details simply because the prompt says everything you know about me.
Privacy settings for a one-off experiment
Use Temporary Chat
For a single experiment, the simplest privacy-preserving workflow is:
- Open a new chat.
- Select the Temporary control near the top-right of the chat interface.
- Upload the cropped portrait and use an explicit prompt.
- Download the result if you want to keep it.
- Delete local copies or social-media posts separately if you no longer want them.
According to OpenAI’s Temporary Chat FAQ, Temporary Chats do not appear in history, do not create or use memories for personalization, and are not used to improve models. OpenAI may nevertheless retain a copy for up to 30 days for safety purposes. Temporary Chat therefore reduces retention and personalization, but it does not mean that nothing is processed or retained at all.
Turn off model improvement for ordinary chats
If you want the conversation to remain in your history while opting out of model improvement for new conversations, use:
Profile → Settings → Data Controls → Improve the model for everyone → Off
OpenAI says this setting applies across the account. Existing chats remain in history, but new conversations after opting out are not used to train ChatGPT. This is separate from memory: turning off model improvement does not automatically remove saved memories or delete the conversation.
Manage memory and chat-history reference
Go to:
Profile → Settings → Personalization
There you can manage Reference saved memories and Reference chat history separately, where those controls are available. Turning memory off does not automatically erase every memory that was already saved. To remove a detail fully, OpenAI says you may need to delete the saved memory and the original conversation in which the information appeared.
Delete both the conversation and uploaded files
Generated images are saved in ChatGPT’s Images area. Deleting the conversation removes the generated image from My Images, according to OpenAI’s Images in ChatGPT guidance.
Uploaded photos can be handled separately. Files and images may remain in the ChatGPT Library, so deleting the chat does not necessarily delete the uploaded source file. If you want to remove it, check the Library and delete it there as well. OpenAI’s chat and file retention documentation explains the distinction.
Account and plan differences
For personal ChatGPT accounts, OpenAI says submitted content may be used to improve models unless the user opts out, subject to the applicable settings and policies. For ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu, and the API, OpenAI says inputs and outputs are not used for training by default, subject to the relevant service terms. If the image belongs to an employer or client, check the organization’s policy before uploading it to any external service.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What if the caricature is wrong, generic, refused, or unsettling?
Not every failed result is a privacy issue or a sign that the prompt is broken. Common causes include a blurry or unsupported image, an image that is too large, multiple people in the frame, an ambiguous job description, a temporary image-generation problem, or an account usage limit.
Try this recovery sequence:
- Start a new chat if the conversation has accumulated confusing instructions.
- Upload a single-person, tightly cropped portrait.
- Remove sensitive and unrelated background material.
- State the profession, hobby, or intended subject directly instead of relying on everything you know about me.
- Specify the desired exaggeration level, framing, background, and number of props.
- Remove requests involving sexualized, defamatory, deceptive, or misleading depictions of real people.
- If the request appears to have been blocked incorrectly, review OpenAI’s Usage Policies and contact OpenAI Support.
ChatGPT Images 2.0 applies text-input, image-input, and output safety checks. Requests to create misleading impersonations or use another person’s likeness without consent in ways that could confuse authenticity may be restricted. A safer request is a clearly labeled, non-deceptive caricature of yourself or a person who has given permission.
Recommended Free Tools
If the result invents personal details, say:
Remove every unsupported personal detail. Use only the job, hobby, props, and visual features explicitly provided in this conversation or visible in the uploaded photo.
If the result is unsettling, do not publish it simply because it is technically impressive. Delete the chat and uploaded file if appropriate, and regenerate with a generic background, fewer personal details, and a milder style—or use a non-photorealistic avatar that does not closely resemble you.
Is it safe to share the finished caricature?
Sharing the cartoon can reveal less than sharing the original photograph, but it can still disclose the same identity-linked details: your face, occupation, workplace clues, interests, family references, or location. The caption can add even more information. Avoid pairing the image with your full name, employer, exact location, schedule, or other details that the picture does not need.
OpenAI says images generated with ChatGPT, Codex, and the API include C2PA provenance metadata. That metadata can help identify generated content, but screenshots, resizing, and social-media processing can remove it. The presence of provenance can be useful evidence; its absence does not prove that an image was not generated by OpenAI.
When context requires transparency, label the image as AI-generated. Also remember that once an image is posted publicly, copying, archiving, remixing, and platform-specific retention are outside ChatGPT’s controls.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAlternatives to the viral prompt
There are several reasonable ways to get the same creative result with different trade-offs:
- Viral prompt: fastest and most surprising, but more likely to use or appear to use personal context and to invent details.
- Explicit job-and-hobby prompt: more predictable and privacy-conscious, but requires you to provide the details.
- Photo-only prompt: minimizes written disclosure, but may produce a generic interpretation based on visual cues.
- Temporary Chat plus an explicit prompt: a sensible balance for a one-off experiment, although you still upload a face image to the service.
- Human caricature artist: offers more intentional artistic control and a clearer consent relationship, but may cost money and still requires sharing the image with the artist.
If you intend to print the result on merchandise, inspect its resolution and quality first. A social-media-ready image is not automatically print-ready. If you only need a profile picture, request a square composition with a centered face and a plain background.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ChatGPT caricature prompt work if I have never used ChatGPT before?
Yes. A new user may receive a less personalized result because there is little or no prior context, but you can provide the job, hobbies, pets, preferred style, props, and exaggeration level directly in the current prompt.
Does turning off memory stop ChatGPT from using my photo?
No. Memory controls affect saved memories and, where enabled, reference to past chats. ChatGPT can still process the photo and text you submit in the current conversation. For a one-off request, Temporary Chat also prevents the chat from appearing in history and prevents memories from being created or used for personalization, although OpenAI may retain a copy for up to 30 days for safety.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If I delete the ChatGPT conversation, is my uploaded photo deleted too?
Not necessarily. Deleting the conversation removes the generated image from the Images area, but an uploaded source image may be stored separately in the Library. Check and delete the file there as well.
Can I make a caricature without uploading a real photo?
Yes. You can ask ChatGPT for a fictional or loosely representative avatar and describe the desired appearance, job, hobbies, and style. This avoids uploading a face image, although the result will not be a close likeness.
The Bottom Line
The ChatGPT caricature trend is a playful image-generation format built around a portrait and the prompt Create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me. It does not mean ChatGPT literally knows everything about you or automatically searches the internet. For better control and less exposure, use a cropped portrait, describe only the job and props you want, choose Temporary Chat for a one-off experiment, review memory and data controls, and delete both the conversation and any separately stored Library file when finished.
