Yes—Castr supports both scheduled prerecorded broadcasts and continuous playout, so it can technically run a prerecorded music channel on YouTube. Those are distinct workflows: scheduling finished videos suits a broadcast at a set time, while continuous playout is the closer fit for a channel intended to stay live. Castr handles delivery; it does not grant music rights or guarantee that YouTube will leave a stream uninterrupted or approve the channel for monetization.
How Castr fits a prerecorded music channel
Scheduled prerecorded video
Castr describes a workflow in which you upload a finished video, choose a start time, and broadcast it as a live stream to YouTube or other destinations. This is the more direct match for a one-off scheduled program or a video that should begin at a particular time. Continuous playout
For a channel meant to remain live, Castr separately describes 24/7 playout, video playlists, scheduling, and loop mode. Its TV playout workflow sends a channel into a Castr livestream, which can then be delivered to YouTube and other supported outputs. Before building a long-running music schedule, confirm the current limits for uploaded files and playlists, how schedule changes take effect, and what happens if the rundown has a gap. For a music channel, make sure the playlist is ready before going live: check that each item is available, the order and durations are intentional, and any transitions or gaps behave as expected. Castr’s public feature descriptions establish the general workflow, but do not settle every operational detail for a particular plan or schedule.

Connecting Castr to YouTube
Castr’s YouTube help article, dated May 19, 2023, describes connecting through YouTube’s API or setting up the destination manually with YouTube’s stream server and stream key. In the manual workflow, the key connects the encoder or service to the YouTube live event; the help article says stream-key users edit the stream description in YouTube’s dashboard. The interface may have changed since that help article was published, so follow the current labels shown in your Castr and YouTube accounts. Castr’s YouTube setup help
- Prepare the YouTube live destination. In YouTube Studio, create or select the live event and identify the connection method you will use. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Choose the Castr workflow. Use scheduled prerecorded live for a finished video with a planned start, or the 24/7 playout workflow for a playlist intended to continue broadcasting.
- Connect YouTube. Use Castr’s available YouTube connection or enter the server and key in the manual destination setup, as applicable to the current interface.
- Check the event and the output. Confirm the correct YouTube event, title, description, and destination before starting. If you use a stream key, set or revise the description in YouTube Studio.
- Start with a controlled check. Verify that the expected video reaches the intended YouTube event and that playback proceeds as planned before relying on an extended schedule.
Music rights are separate from streaming setup
A successful technical connection does not grant permission to broadcast the music. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Before scheduling a long-running stream, establish that your permissions cover the intended use: live streaming on YouTube, the relevant territories, and any applicable public-performance or other rights. A license for one use, platform, or territory should not be assumed to cover every other use. Castr’s delivery service cannot provide those permissions for you.
Why a licensed stream can still be interrupted
YouTube says livestreams are scanned for third-party content and may be temporarily interrupted or terminated when such content is detected. It also notes that even licensed third-party content may require the channel to be added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Arrange any required allowlisting with the rights holder before the broadcast; having a license alone may not prevent an automated interruption. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams

Monetization is a separate YouTube decision
Castr making a prerecorded program technically live does not make a channel eligible for YouTube monetization. YouTube assesses reused content at the channel level, separately from copyright enforcement and music permissions. Its policy notice dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and said there was no change to the reused-content policy. The published comparison lists a seven-day trial for Starter, not for every plan. It also lists a 99.9% uptime SLA; that is Castr’s vendor-stated SLA, not an independently measured uptime result.
What to check before choosing
- Concurrent outputs: count how many streams you need to run at the same time, not just the number of programs in a playlist.
- Destinations: confirm that the plan’s destination cap covers YouTube and any other outputs you actually need.
- Bandwidth: estimate viewer delivery for the expected audience and run length, then compare it with the plan’s monthly allocation or annual pool.
- Storage: compare the video library’s total size with the plan’s video storage. A 24/7 workflow is not evidence that storage is unlimited.
- Required features: check whether you need plan-listed options such as an HLS live URL, API access, or failover ingest.
- Playout specifics: ask Castr to confirm file and playlist limits, scheduling behavior, and gap handling if those details are not clear for the plan you are considering.
