The important caveats: test the computer and connection at your chosen settings before leaving it unattended, secure rights to the audio and visuals, and do not rely on YouTube to preserve a single stream longer than 12 hours as a replay.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live-streaming access. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- A mini PC that can run OBS Studio at the resolution, frame rate and encoding settings you select. OBS says its baseline system requirements do not guarantee that a computer can stream or record a particular workload.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream bitrate, plus the recommended headroom described below.
- A prepared video containing the brown-noise audio and any still image or subtle visual loop.
- Permission to use and broadcast every part of the video, including the sound recording, composition and artwork.
OBS Studio is free and open source, with downloads for Windows, macOS and Linux at OBS Studio’s download page. Check the operating system and hardware requirements for the mini PC you plan to use.
Prepare the brown-noise video and verify rights
Make a video file for the stream
For a background-noise broadcast, prepare a video with the licensed brown-noise audio and a still or unobtrusive looping visual. A static image can keep visual complexity low, but the audio still needs to play continuously and cleanly. The setup described here sends a video file through OBS; it is not a live microphone or camera broadcast.
Use audio and artwork you are entitled to broadcast
YouTube’s live-stream terms require you to have the necessary rights for the content, including music licensing rights where applicable. A sound file being available to listen to online does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Confirm that your license covers livestreaming on YouTube, and retain proof of permission. YouTube’s guidance is available in its Terms of Service.

Check whether the mini PC can sustain OBS
OBS performance depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Its system-requirements page cautions that a compatible system is not necessarily capable of streaming or recording at the selected workload. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then test your intended settings on the actual mini PC.
Check hardware encoding support
Hardware encoding can move video-encoding work from the CPU to a specialized graphics component and may reduce processor load. Support depends on the mini PC’s hardware and drivers; do not assume every mini PC has the same encoder available. See OBS’s hardware-encoding guidance and confirm that OBS offers the encoder on your system.
Prioritize cooling and a realistic workload
A short successful test does not establish that a particular mini PC will run continuously without thermal or other problems. Start with a modest resolution and frame rate, check that the system remains stable during an extended test, and avoid adding unnecessary animated scenes or filters. No specific mini PC model or guaranteed 24/7 performance is established here.

Set up YouTube Live and connect OBS
- Enable live streaming: In YouTube Studio, verify the channel and enable live streaming. If this is the channel’s first activation, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
- Create the broadcast: Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Follow the current prompts for the stream’s title, audience and visibility.
- Copy the ingest details: In the stream setup, copy the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key as a secret: someone who obtains it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel.
- Enter them in OBS: Open OBS and go to Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream key, or use the connection method presented by your version of OBS. If you enter a server URL manually, use the stream URL YouTube provides.
- Load the video: Add the prepared video in OBS as a media source and configure it to loop. Check that the visual appears and the audio meter responds. Listen to the output; meters moving does not prove the sound is clean or at a suitable level.
- Preview before going live: Start the encoder from OBS and wait for the signal to appear in Live Control Room. Check the preview and stream health, then start the YouTube broadcast using the control shown there if required. Confirm the live video is reachable from the channel or watch page.

Choose conservative video, audio and network settings
Use YouTube’s encoder guidance as the baseline
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube’s guidance lists H.264 video, constant bitrate encoding, AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds and use a bitrate from YouTube’s current table for your selected resolution and frame rate; do not apply a bitrate from a different format without checking that table. Brown-noise visuals often do not need a high frame rate or resolution to be useful, but choose settings based on the actual video and the mini PC’s capabilities. Lower settings can reduce encoding load and required upload bandwidth. Check that the audio remains clear and continuous at your chosen bitrate.

Leave upload headroom
YouTube recommends upload capacity 20% above the total stream bitrate. For example, if the configured video and audio bitrates total 5 Mbps, plan for at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity for that stream. This is a bandwidth target, not a guarantee: other devices and traffic can reduce the upload available to the mini PC. YouTube also warns that a network disruption can break the stream. Its network tips explain the headroom recommendation.
Use a reliable connection and test it under the conditions in which the broadcast will run. Ethernet is an optional way to connect the mini PC; YouTube’s guidance emphasizes reliability and sufficient capacity rather than requiring a wired connection.

Plan for YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24-hour broadcast therefore should not be treated as a dependable single replay. If preserving the content matters, enable local recording in OBS and check that recordings are being saved and have enough disk space. You can also plan shorter broadcast sessions, but confirm the transition between sessions works as intended.

YouTube’s guidance is in YouTube Help: Archive live streams. The archive threshold is not a promise that every shorter stream will appear as a replay.
Test before leaving the stream unattended
- Run a test with the same mini PC, OBS scene, video file, encoder, bitrate and network you plan to use.
- Check YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators, and listen for gaps, clipping, distortion or unexpected silence.
- Confirm the broadcast is visible at the intended YouTube watch page and that the video and audio stay in sync.
- Verify that any local recording is being written to the expected drive and that storage space is sufficient for the planned recording period.
- Observe the mini PC during an extended run for overheating, encoding overload, dropped frames, sleep settings or unexpected restarts.
- Decide how you will notice a failure and restart or recover the broadcast. A test confirms the setup under those conditions; it does not establish guaranteed uptime for a mini PC or home internet connection.
Troubleshoot common failures
YouTube does not show an incoming preview
- Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel and that activation has completed.
- In OBS, confirm the selected service, stream URL if entered manually, and stream key. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Check that OBS is sending the stream and that the mini PC has an active internet connection.
The stream is unstable or drops
- Compare the configured total bitrate with the upload capacity available during the broadcast; aim for YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- Reduce resolution, frame rate or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the current settings, using YouTube’s bitrate guidance for the revised format.
- Check for competing uploads or network use, and test a more reliable connection. A wired Ethernet connection may help in some setups but is not a substitute for adequate bandwidth.
OBS overloads or the mini PC struggles
- Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard, then test again with a lower resolution or frame rate and fewer scene effects.
- Check whether a supported hardware encoder is available in OBS and whether its driver is current.
- Watch for heat, sleep or power-management behavior during an extended test. A hardware compatibility checklist alone cannot guarantee sustained performance.
The replay is missing or incomplete
A stream that exceeds YouTube’s stated 12-hour threshold may not be captured at all. Use an OBS local recording if you need a durable copy, and do not depend on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast becoming a complete YouTube replay.
The audio is claimed, muted or blocked
Review YouTube’s notice and the license for the exact sound recording and other content used. Replace or remove material if you cannot document the rights needed for the broadcast. Do not assume that changing the visual or repeating the audio makes an unlicensed recording safe to use.

Local mini PC or cloud streaming?
A local encoder gives you direct control over OBS and local recording, but depends on the mini PC, its power and the network connection staying available.
