There is no objective, universal list of the best YouTubers and content creators. For a clear retrospective, YouTube’s U.S. Top Creators ranking for 2022 is a useful starting point: it names MrBeast first, followed by nine other creators, based on the platform’s year-end ranking. It is a U.S.-scoped list of creators—not a global verdict on quality or a ranking of every kind of YouTube content.
Who were YouTube’s top creators of 2022?
YouTube published its U.S. Top Creators list on December 1, 2022. MrBeast ranked No. 1 for the third consecutive year. The rest of the top 10, in YouTube’s published order, were:
- MrBeast
- NichLmao
- Airrack
- Ryan Trahan
- Isaiah Photo
- Brent Rivera
- Dan Rhodes
- Luke Davidson
- CoryxKenshin
- Ian Boggs
This is YouTube’s own U.S. ranking tied to 2022 performance, not an all-time list or a measure of artistic merit. The announcement does not establish that every viewer would consider these creators the best; it records who appeared in the platform’s category and order. YouTube’s 2022 year-end announcement is the source for the list.
How does an editorial list differ from YouTube’s ranking?
WatchMojo’s Top 10 YouTube Channels of 2022 is a separate editorial selection, not a second version of YouTube’s ranking. Its selections include SunnyV2, MrBallen, LegalEagle, Coffeezilla, Watcher, Girlfriend Reviews, Mark Rober, Good Mythical Morning, and Dude Perfect. The difference matters: YouTube’s list represents a platform-defined category, while WatchMojo presents its own editorial choices. Neither should be treated as an objective, universally accepted ranking of quality.

The WatchMojo list can be useful if you are browsing by subject rather than looking for YouTube’s platform order. Its selections span commentary, true crime, legal explainers, science and engineering, gaming, and comedy. The source is WatchMojo’s editorial video, “Top 10 YouTube Channels of 2022”.
Why Shorts, trending videos, and breakout creators are separate lists
YouTube published several year-end lists for different kinds of content. Its Top Creators category should not be conflated with its lists for Top Trending Videos, Top Shorts, Breakout Creators, or Top Songs. Each answers a different question: who ranked in the creator category, which videos or songs were trending, and which creators or formats stood out in other categories.

YouTube’s first-ever Top Shorts list highlighted short-form, feel-good content, including sketch comedy and visual tricks. Its description of breakout creators focused on people finding niches in Shorts and reworking Minecraft trends and pop-culture hits. Those observations describe short-form categories; they do not change the scope of the U.S. Top Creators ranking.
What the 2022 trend-video numbers do—and do not—show
YouTube reported that its top 10 trending videos were watched more than 650 million times over 55 million hours during the viewing period from January 1 through November 21, 2022. The channels behind those videos had more than 225 million subscribers in total. These figures show the scale of attention around the trending-video list, not that every creator on the separate Top Creators list had those views or subscribers, or that reach alone measures quality.

The creator economy is bigger than any top-10 list
In a May 2023 post summarizing an Oxford Economics report, YouTube said the U.S. creative ecosystem contributed over $35 billion to U.S. GDP and supported more than 390,000 full-time-equivalent U.S. jobs in 2022. Those are estimates for the creator ecosystem as a whole—not earnings, employment, or quality measures for any individual on a year-end list. YouTube’s summary of the Oxford Economics findings provides that broader context.
