Recommended Free Tools
For a true, continuous loop of uploaded videos on YouTube, StreamNeo is the most direct hosted alternative: it runs the playlist from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. For hands-on desktop control, OBS can loop a local media source, but your computer and connection must stay available. Restream Upload & Stream is for scheduled prerecorded events with a documented replay limit, while StreamYard is better suited to browser-based shows with guests and clips. Vimeo may also remain a fit if your plan includes simulcasting.
First, decide what “looping” means for your YouTube stream
These tools do not all do the same job. A video source repeating continuously, a scheduled prerecorded event replaying a limited number of times, and a clip playing inside a live studio are different workflows. Choose based on whether the channel must keep running unattended, whether you need a live host or guests, and how much control you want over production.
- Unattended, continuous playback: choose a cloud service designed to keep an uploaded video or playlist live. StreamNeo is the direct fit in this comparison.
- Local control and custom scenes: use OBS, knowing that playback and encoding depend on your computer and internet connection.
- Scheduled prerecorded event: Restream Upload & Stream can schedule a video or playlist, but its documented replay setting is finite.
- Browser studio or guest show: StreamYard can send a show to YouTube and incorporate video workflows, but a background or clip feature is not a 24/7 looping service.
- Existing Vimeo workflow: check your plan before switching; qualifying Vimeo plans can simulcast to YouTube.
Best options by use case
| Option | Best for | Playback and setup | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Keeping uploaded videos or a playlist live on YouTube continuously from the cloud | Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the service loops it in the cloud. | YouTube only; it plays uploaded video and does not stream a camera feed. |
| OBS Studio | Local media-source loops, playlists, and detailed scene control | Configure media sources and scenes on a desktop computer; encoding uses local resources. | The computer and connection must remain available, and setup is more involved. The reviewed sources do not establish universal minimum hardware or unattended uptime. |
| Restream Upload & Stream | Scheduling a prerecorded event with a finite replay run | Upload and schedule a single video or playlist in the hosted service. | Restream documents replay up to 10 times, not unlimited looping or 24/7 operation. |
| StreamYard | Browser-based production, guests, and clips within a show | YouTube is listed as a native destination; custom RTMP is also available with some feature limitations. | Video-background support is not equivalent to an unattended continuous loop. |
| Vimeo | Keeping an existing Vimeo event workflow and adding YouTube distribution | Simulcasting to YouTube is available on qualifying plans. | Simulcasting requires Advanced or Premium, or Enterprise with Events added; check the current eligibility of your account. |
Best for 24/7 YouTube playback: StreamNeo
StreamNeo is #1 for an always-on YouTube loop because it runs from the cloud, accepts uploads at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and includes a free first day. Your computer does not have to stay on. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. The same features are included on every plan; only the billing length changes.
Upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. StreamNeo keeps the uploaded video running from the cloud rather than relying on a home computer or OBS. It is for prerecorded uploads, not a live camera, and it streams to YouTube only.

Use OBS when you want local playback control
OBS is the strongest do-it-yourself choice here if you want to build scenes around a local video source or playlist. A StreamYard-authored comparison describes OBS Media Source workflows for common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and GIF, with loop, restart, and end-of-playback behavior; it also describes VLC Video Source playlists when VLC is installed. Those are vendor comparison details, not independent testing, so confirm the current controls in OBS documentation before relying on a particular format or setting.

- Prepare the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and obtain the stream key and server URL shown for that event. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. YouTube’s encoder guidance distinguishes local software or hardware encoders from cloud encoders; an OBS workflow is local encoding.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if available or use the custom RTMP option, and enter the server and key from the YouTube event. Labels can vary by OBS version and account connection method.
- Add the video source. In the scene’s Sources panel, add a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable the source’s loop option if you want it to repeat. For a playlist, the documented workflow uses a VLC Video Source with VLC installed; verify the current OBS/VLC setup for your operating system.
- Set the output to match your source and connection. In OBS, review Settings > Video for canvas and output resolution, then Settings > Output for encoder, bitrate, and keyframe interval. YouTube’s recommended settings vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec; use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations rather than a universal bitrate copied from another setup. Keep the output within the limits shown for your YouTube event and test playback before relying on the stream.
- Start and monitor the stream. Start streaming in OBS and confirm that YouTube Studio receives the signal and that the video and audio are correct. Leave OBS, the computer, and the network connection running for the duration; local playback and encoding stop if the machine sleeps, loses power, or disconnects.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
A video being prerecorded does not make it safe to rebroadcast. Use footage, music, and other material you own or are licensed to stream, and review YouTube’s copyright and monetization policies. Repeated or reused content may affect monetization eligibility even when a livestream technically works; do not assume that looping a video makes it original or policy-compliant. Check the rights for every element in a playlist and the rules that apply to your channel and location.
Restream: schedule a finite prerecorded event
Restream Upload & Stream suits a scheduled video or playlist when you do not need an indefinite loop. Its Help Center article, dated July 25, 2026, says a scheduled video can be replayed up to 10 times. Restream describes the format as an interactive live show with real-time chat, even though the video is prerecorded. That replay ceiling is not a promise of continuous 24/7 operation. Check the current plan and channel support for your intended destination before scheduling.

StreamYard: run a browser show, not a hands-off loop
StreamYard lists YouTube as a native destination and supports custom RTMP destinations with some feature limitations. Its Help Center says prerecorded streams can be scheduled up to 365 days ahead; that is a scheduling horizon, not evidence that a single stream can play continuously for that period. The service documents MP4 or GIF files as stream or recording backgrounds, while video backgrounds are not supported as virtual or green-screen backgrounds.
StreamYard describes an advanced OBS virtual-camera workaround for a looping video background and warns that it can use substantial CPU, GPU, and RAM. Use this route only if you need the video as part of a browser-studio production and can manage the local resource demands; it is not the same as a cloud service keeping an unattended channel live.

Keep Vimeo if your plan already meets the need
“Alternative” does not automatically mean “replace Vimeo.” Vimeo’s Help Center says simulcasting to YouTube and other platforms is supported on Advanced or Premium, or on Enterprise with Events added. It documents up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations; these are current published service limits, and the page did not show a publication date when accessed October 3, 2026. Confirm your account’s current plan eligibility and destination setup before changing services.
Vimeo also documents that since October 2024, Livestream Studio sends to YouTube via RTMP using YouTube’s Stream URL and Stream Key. That means an existing Vimeo workflow may still be viable if its plan and event setup fit your distribution needs.

How to choose without mistaking a replay for a 24/7 stream
- Choose StreamNeo for uploaded videos that should keep playing on YouTube from the cloud without a home computer running.
- Choose OBS if you want detailed local scene control and can keep the computer and connection available.
- Choose Restream Upload & Stream for a hosted, scheduled prerecorded event whose replay run can be finite.
- Choose StreamYard for browser-based shows with guests, clips, or studio production rather than unattended looping.
- Keep Vimeo in the workflow if your account has the required simulcast plan and its event controls are sufficient.
No reviewed documentation establishes that OBS, Restream, StreamYard, or Vimeo will provide an indefinite, unattended YouTube loop in every configuration. Before committing to a non-dedicated workflow, verify stream duration, restart behavior, account eligibility, and the applicable YouTube rules.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your recording or playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploads stream at any quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
