For a free, do-it-yourself setup you can supervise, start with OBS Studio. It is open-source software listed in YouTube’s encoder directory. For a prerecorded YouTube stream that should keep running without leaving a computer on, choose a cloud service built for continuous playback: StreamNeo is the #1 option here because it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and gives the first day free.
Which software fits a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream?
The key distinction is not simply free versus paid. It is whether you want to operate a local encoder yourself or have a cloud service keep prerecorded video running. A scheduled prerecorded broadcast is a different product feature from a continuous loop or playlist.
| Option | Best fit | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Unattended, continuous YouTube playback | Cloud service for looping uploaded video and playlists; no computer needs to stay on. See StreamNeo. |
| OBS Studio | Free local streaming you can monitor and maintain | YouTube’s encoder directory lists OBS as open-source recording and live-streaming software at no charge. Your own computer and connection must remain available. |
| Gyre | Cloud-hosted prerecorded YouTube streams | YouTube’s encoder directory identifies it for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams. That establishes category fit, not independent performance or reliability. |
| Upstream | Cloud-based 24/7 video streaming | YouTube’s encoder directory describes it as a cloud studio for easy 24/7 video streaming. This is not an independent performance assessment. |
| StreamYard | Scheduled prerecorded events | Its help page documents automatic scheduled starts, but its published upload-duration limits do not establish a continuous 24/7 loop feature. |
YouTube says encoder-based live streaming uses an encoder, which may be software or hardware. Its encoder directory also cautions that listed products are not made by YouTube and asks creators to assess which tool suits their needs. The directory is useful for finding relevant options, not as an endorsement.
When OBS Studio is the right choice
OBS is the clearest no-charge software starting point if you want direct control over a local stream and can keep an operator, computer, network connection, and recovery process in place. The trade-off is operational: a power outage, operating-system update, OBS crash, internet interruption, or accidental shutdown can interrupt the broadcast unless you detect and fix it.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a local setup, install OBS from the official OBS Project website, then connect it to YouTube using the stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. A local encoder is not automatically a continuous playlist manager; verify that your chosen OBS scene or playback workflow actually advances and repeats the files you intend to show. Test the complete sequence before relying on it unattended.
How to prepare the YouTube stream
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream setup and complete channel verification and any eligibility steps shown. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do this before a planned launch.
- Choose a stream in Live Control Room. Create or select the broadcast and use its stream settings to obtain the stream key and server details required by your encoder or cloud service. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, share it with viewers, or paste it into public screenshots.
- Connect the encoder or service. Enter the stream key in OBS or the selected cloud service. Confirm that the selected YouTube broadcast is the one you intend to run; a correct key connected to the wrong event can still result in a stream going to the wrong place.
- Check stream health before leaving it unattended. Start with a short private or unlisted test if appropriate for your channel, and confirm picture, sound, playback order, and YouTube’s incoming-stream status before making the broadcast public.
YouTube’s encoder workflow describes enabling live streaming, installing an encoder, connecting equipment, and connecting the encoder. Exact controls can change in YouTube Studio, so use the current labels displayed in your account.

Video and encoder settings to check
Restream’s YouTube setup guidance, dated July 9, 2026, publishes the following encoder recommendations. These are Restream’s documented settings for YouTube, not a claim that every source file or provider requires identical settings; check current YouTube guidance and your encoder before going live.
| Setting | Published guidance | Practical check |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264 | Confirm the encoder or uploaded file is using a supported codec. |
| Resolution | 240p–2160p | Choose a resolution your source and connection can sustain. |
| Bitrate | 3,000–40,000 Kbps, depending on resolution and frame rate | Use a setting appropriate to your chosen output rather than treating the range as a single target. |
| Frame rate | Up to 60 fps | Match the source where practical; avoid assuming a higher output rate improves a lower-frame-rate recording. |
| Rate control | CBR | Set constant bitrate where the encoder exposes this option. |
| Keyframe interval | Two seconds recommended; four seconds maximum | Set the interval in the encoder if available. |
| Audio | AAC or MP3 | Check that audio is present, audible, and not clipping. |
These are stream-output settings; do not confuse them with the characteristics of a prerecorded upload. Cloud providers may have their own source-file limits, accepted formats, and output behavior. Check those before uploading a long documentary or building a playlist.

Scheduled prerecorded video is not the same as 24/7 looping
StreamYard documents automatically starting a scheduled prerecorded broadcast, but the current help-page limits it publishes are aimed at finite events: a maximum video length of two hours on Core, four hours on Advanced, and eight hours on Teams and Business. Its help page says paid-plan prerecorded broadcasts stream at up to 1080p; uploads must be MP4 with H.264 video, with a 10 Mbps bitrate limit.
Those specifications may suit a scheduled premiere-style event, but do not establish unlimited playback, automatic looping, or a continuous 24/7 playlist. Before choosing any scheduler for an always-on channel, get clear answers about duration limits and what happens when the video ends.

Questions to ask before choosing a cloud service
- Does it support a continuous loop or playlist, rather than only one scheduled broadcast?
- Does it require your computer to remain on, or does playback continue in the cloud?
- What are the supported file formats, codecs, upload sizes, durations, resolutions, and frame rates?
- Can it reconnect or recover after a dropped YouTube connection or a service interruption?
- Can you see stream-health status, and how many concurrent channels or streams are included?
- What runtime, storage, cancellation terms, and export or archive behavior apply?
YouTube’s directory establishes that Gyre and Upstream are relevant cloud-service candidates, but the available published facts here do not establish comparable current pricing, uptime guarantees, or head-to-head reliability. Check each provider’s current terms and test its workflow rather than inferring performance from a directory listing.

A streaming tool cannot guarantee monetization. YouTube Partner Program eligibility and content review remain YouTube decisions, and repeated or minimally transformed content can raise separate policy concerns. A long-running stream is not a substitute for rights clearance or channel-policy compliance.

Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
Every slot includes one always-on YouTube stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery, and StreamNeo team support. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Start a free first day at StreamNeo registration.
Cost and operational trade-offs
OBS has no software charge, but a local 24/7 setup still uses a computer and internet connection that must stay available. A cloud service shifts the always-on hosting burden away from your home setup; compare its recurring cost, storage allowance, duration and file limits, recovery behavior, and cancellation terms before committing. Quick Recap
Troubleshooting common problems
- YouTube does not accept the stream: Confirm live streaming is enabled on the channel, the correct broadcast is selected, and the encoder has the matching stream key. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours as YouTube advises.
- Stream starts but drops: Check the host computer and internet connection for a local encoder, or the service’s connection and recovery status for a cloud encoder. Verify reconnect behavior and monitor YouTube’s stream health rather than assuming a reconnect succeeded.
- Video looks soft or stutters: Check output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate against the source and connection. Restream’s published guidance gives a bitrate range that varies by resolution and frame rate; there is no single suitable bitrate for every stream.
- Audio is missing or distorted: Check the source file’s audio track, the encoder’s audio source and codec, and YouTube’s incoming audio meter during a test.
- Playback stops at the end of a file: Confirm the tool supports looping or playlists. Scheduled prerecorded playback alone does not prove that continuous looping is available.
- The archive is missing: Restream says YouTube archives streams only when they are under 12 hours. This is Restream’s published guidance; plan separate recordings or other archiving if preserving a longer run matters.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Replace or reset it in YouTube’s live-stream settings, then update the encoder or cloud service using the new key.
