The best Loom alternative depends on what you need after you press Record. Choose Tella for polished screen-and-camera demos with editing and hosted sharing; Cap for open-source recording and self-hosting; OBS Studio for free local capture and production control; ScreenPal for budget-friendly recording with timeline editing; Vidyard for sales videos and viewer engagement; Descript for transcript-led editing; or Screen Studio for polished demos on a Mac. These are workflow matches based on vendor-authored comparison guides, not independent test results.
How to choose a Loom alternative
Loom combines recording with hosted sharing and async collaboration. Alternatives may replace only part of that workflow: a local recorder can give you more capture control without providing hosted links, while a polished demo tool may bundle editing, hosting, and analytics. Decide which part of Loom you want to change before comparing plans.
- Fast record-and-share: prioritize a simple path from capture to hosted link.
- Polished demos: look for editing, zoom, layout, and audio cleanup tools.
- Privacy and control: check whether recordings remain local or can be self-hosted.
- Team or sales workflows: check viewer analytics, collaboration, branding, and CRM integrations.
- Existing Loom library: verify what transfers before committing; comments, permissions, folders, links, and ownership history may not carry over.
Vendor comparison guides have commercial interests: Tella discloses that its comparison was paid for, and Zight’s guide recommends its own product. Treat their rankings and feature descriptions as vendor claims, and confirm current details with the provider before choosing.
Best Loom alternatives by use case
| Tool | Best fit | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Tella | Polished product demos and team async work | Its feature and performance figures are Tella-published claims, not independent test results. |
| Cap | Open-source recording, self-hosting, and data ownership | Cloud sharing and collaboration are associated with Pro features; confirm current licensing and migration scope. |
| OBS Studio | Free local capture with detailed production controls | No Loom-like hosted share links, analytics, or integrated async collaboration workflow. |
| ScreenPal | Budget-conscious recording with timeline editing | Plan limits and pricing can change; verify the live plan page. |
| Vidyard | Sales prospecting and viewer engagement workflows | Its sales-oriented tools may be unnecessary for internal team updates. |
| Descript | Editing recordings by working with their transcripts | Transcript-first editing can be more involved than recording and sending a quick update. |
| Screen Studio | Polished screen demos on Mac | Mac-only, with a more limited team workflow described by the comparison sources. |
| Zight | Support, IT, and product teams sharing screenshots, GIFs, and recordings | Its Video Requests and plan availability are described by Zight’s own guide; confirm current access. |
What each alternative does well—and what to check
Tella: finished-looking demos with sharing built in
Tella presents itself as a fit for product demos and team async work. Its comparison highlights Auto Cut, Auto Zoom, Auto Layouts, Studio Voice, hosted sharing, viewer analytics, branding, and a Loom migration tool. Tella also reports 4K recording, 60 fps exports, clips up to six hours, and transcription in 106 languages. These are the vendor’s own product claims, not independent measurements. Tella’s September 1, 2026 comparison reported a seven-day trial and a Pro starting price of $13 per month billed annually; check current terms before relying on either figure.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cap: open-source and self-hosting options
Cap is a candidate if local recording, self-hosting, or data ownership matters more than an all-in-one hosted workflow. The comparison guides describe a permanent free tier for local recording and Pro features for cloud sharing and collaboration. Tella describes Cap as MIT-licensed and self-hostable with Docker Compose; Zight reports annual Pro pricing of $8.16 per user per month and describes CSV and managed Loom migrations. Those claims can change, so verify Cap’s current license, plan limits, price, and migration scope directly before moving a team library.
OBS Studio: local capture and production control
The comparison sources describe OBS Studio as free, open-source capture and streaming software for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Scenes, sources, filters, audio mixing, and encoding controls make it useful when you want to compose a recording or tune production details. It is not a direct replacement for Loom’s hosted sharing and async collaboration: plan separately for editing and hosting a file or link if you choose OBS.

ScreenPal: timeline editing on a budget
ScreenPal is presented as an option for people who want a budget-conscious recorder with timeline editing. Zight’s 2026 guide reports that the free recorder allows recordings up to 15 minutes and cites Solo Deluxe at $4 per month when paid annually, before promotions. These are figures reported by Zight, not a guarantee of current availability; check ScreenPal’s live plan page for today’s limits and billing terms.
Vidyard: personalized sales video
Vidyard is better matched to prospecting, personalized video, viewer engagement, and CRM workflows than to routine internal updates. Zight’s 2026 comparison reports a free allowance of five recorded videos per month, up to 30 minutes each. Because that is a vendor comparison’s report of Vidyard’s plan, confirm current limits and self-serve pricing with Vidyard.

Descript: transcript-first editing
Descript suits a workflow where editing spoken content matters: the comparison describes editing a recording by editing its transcript. That can be valuable for more deliberate narration or cleanup, but it is a different rhythm from quickly recording a note and sending the link.
Screen Studio: polished demos for Mac users
Screen Studio is positioned for polished screen demonstrations, with animated zooms and smooth cursor effects. The platform limitation is straightforward: the comparison sources describe it as Mac-only. They also note a more limited team workflow than a hosted async collaboration tool.

Zight: visual requests as well as recordings
Zight may fit support, IT, and product teams that need to exchange screenshots, GIFs, screen recordings, and inbound visual context. Its own guide describes Video Requests that recipients can complete from a link without installing the app or creating an account. Since this is Zight’s description and plan availability may change, confirm the feature and its access requirements before building a workflow around it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When Loom may still be the right choice
Loom can remain practical for quick internal updates, especially in an organization already using Atlassian tools. Tella’s September 2026 comparison reports a Loom Starter limit of 25 videos per person and five minutes per recording; treat that as a dated vendor-reported figure and check Loom’s current plan page. The comparison sources conflict on Loom paid pricing, so no current paid price is stated here.

Plan a Loom migration before switching
A video export is not necessarily a full migration of a team’s working history. Zight warns that comments, analytics, permissions, folders, links, and ownership history may not transfer. Tella describes a tool for exporting a Loom library, including private videos and folders, to MP4 or Tella. These are vendor descriptions; what you can move may depend on your account, plan, and target workflow.
- Inventory what matters: list the videos, folders, private items, comments, analytics, permissions, and links your team relies on.
- Test a representative sample: include private videos and shared folders, not only public or recently created clips.
- Check destination behavior: confirm how the new service handles access, ownership, comments, and sharing links.
- Pilot before retiring Loom: keep the original library available until the transferred material and any link changes have been checked by the people who use it.
A note for documentary and video publishers
Screen-recording software and a 24/7 YouTube loop solve different problems. StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube; it is not a Loom alternative or a screen recorder. See StreamNeo if your separate need is an always-on YouTube stream.
