Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For a Windows PC that must encode a live camera, game, or event, OBS Studio is the strongest starting point: YouTube lists it in its verified encoder directory, and OBS gives you local control over scenes and encoding. It is not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 broadcasting or 4K60 performance; those depend on the whole system, including sustained encoding capacity, upload, power, monitoring, and recovery. If your channel plays uploaded recordings rather than a live source, a cloud playout service may be a better fit than leaving a PC on.
Which Windows software fits your kind of stream?
Choose first by what you are broadcasting. An encoder on a Windows PC is appropriate when you need to mix live inputs, switch scenes, or control a live production. A prerecorded channel that repeats videos has a different need: continuous playout, which can be managed in the cloud instead of by a PC in your home.
| Option | Best fit | What the available information establishes |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Uploaded videos or playlists running continuously on YouTube | Cloud service that loops uploaded video; no computer needs to stay on. One flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps. First day free, no card. See StreamNeo. |
| OBS Studio | Live camera, game, event, or a locally controlled production | YouTube lists OBS in its verified encoder directory. OBS publishes Windows compatibility requirements, but says meeting them does not guarantee a computer can stream a particular workload. |
| Streamlabs Desktop | Windows users who prefer guided setup or integrated creator features | Its published requirements make it a relevant alternative. The available official information does not establish better unattended 24/7 reliability than OBS. |
| Gyre | Cloud playout of prerecorded video | YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded streams, including Full HD and 4K at 30/60 FPS. The directory does not establish uptime guarantees, pricing, or suitability for arbitrary live sources. |
There is no controlled, long-duration head-to-head reliability result in the cited official materials. Treat reliability as a system property, not a software checkbox. YouTube advises testing and monitoring; OBS notes that demands vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity.
What a Windows PC needs for 4K60
Requirements are not performance certification
OBS lists Windows 10 or 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU as basic requirements, while warning that compatibility does not guarantee streaming capability. CPU demand varies with the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Streamlabs’ current requirements page lists Windows 11 and 8 GB RAM minimum, and recommends 16 GB or more alongside stronger CPU/GPU and SSD resources. Neither vendor certifies a specific PC for sustained 24/7 4K60.

| Ingest codec | YouTube minimum | YouTube recommended |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
These are encoder ingest figures, not a guarantee that a connection with the same nominal upload speed will remain stable. Leave practical headroom for network variation and other traffic, and test the route you will actually use. Select only a codec your encoder and hardware support.
Set up the YouTube encoder and stream
- Prepare the live stream in YouTube Studio. In Live Control Room, open the stream settings and use the displayed stream URL and stream key in your encoder. Treat the key like a password; reset it in YouTube if it is exposed or compromised.
- Choose ingest and output settings. Use RTMPS where available. Set the encoder to constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and an output of 2160p at 60 fps. YouTube says keyframes should not exceed four seconds. Confirm the output resolution and frame rate in the encoder rather than assuming the source settings carried through.
- Choose the matching bitrate. Use YouTube’s codec-specific recommendations above as a starting point, while ensuring your sustained upload can support the stream with headroom.
- Configure audio. For stereo, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 Kbps audio; its advanced settings list 44.1 kHz stereo.
- Review stream behavior options. YouTube’s stream settings include DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop options. Choose them deliberately for your channel’s workflow.
- Test with representative content. Include movement and audio similar to the real broadcast. Check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, and messages, then confirm playback on relevant devices. YouTube also advises testing failover for encoder workflows.
YouTube detects resolution and frame rate by default; manual selection is available with a custom stream key. YouTube says low-latency optimization is unavailable for 4K/2160p, which is optimized for quality at normal latency.

Keep a local 24/7 stream recoverable
OBS or Streamlabs running on a PC does not remove the need to operate the PC and connection continuously. For a live-source workflow, plan how you will notice a failure and restore the stream. For prerecorded playout, decide whether maintaining local hardware is worth it compared with cloud-managed playback.
- Check YouTube’s stream health and encoder messages during and after testing.
- Test the actual scenes, motion, audio, resolution, and frame rate rather than a static desktop.
- Plan for power loss, network interruption, software or operating-system behavior, and encoder recovery; the cited vendor requirements do not establish a universal unattended configuration.
- Keep stream keys private and rotate a compromised key through YouTube’s stream settings.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel built from uploaded recordings or playlists, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud: upload your video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. No computer or home connection has to stay on. Videos stream as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The PC struggles, overheats, or cannot hold 4K60
Basic operating-system or GPU compatibility is not a performance guarantee. The workload changes with codec, encoding method, frame rate, resolution, and scene complexity. Confirm the encoder is using supported hardware, reduce production complexity if necessary, or choose a lower workload that the machine can sustain.
The stream connects but output settings do not match
Verify the encoder’s actual resolution and frame rate, the selected YouTube ingest settings, and the key associated with the stream. YouTube’s default detection and manual options can behave differently depending on the stream-key setup.
The stream stops after a connection or encoder failure
Check YouTube’s messages and stream health, then follow the recovery procedure you tested. A local PC workflow requires the PC and connection to resume sending. For prerecorded continuous playback, cloud playout is an alternative; do not infer an uptime guarantee from a service’s listing in YouTube’s encoder directory.
Key exposure or unauthorized use
Reset the stream key in YouTube’s stream settings and update the encoder or cloud service that uses it. Do not publish or share the key as ordinary channel information.
