Aubrey O’Day said she felt “validated” after Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested and federally indicted in September 2024, describing the moment as meaningful for women who had struggled to be heard. Her comments drew renewed attention to her history with Combs, who formed Danity Kane through MTV’s Making the Band 3 and removed O’Day from the group in 2008.
What Aubrey O’Day said after the arrest
Combs was arrested in New York on September 16, 2024. Federal prosecutors unsealed a three-count indictment the following day, charging him with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.

On September 17, O’Day posted her reaction publicly:
“The purpose of Justice is to provide an ending and allow us the space to create a new chapter. Women never get this. I feel validated.”

She added that the development was “a win for women all over the world” and that “things are finally changing.”
O’Day also responded to journalist Yashar Ali, who wrote that she had spent years warning people about Combs’ alleged abusive behavior. Her reply was direct: “he did worse than that to me.” She did not provide a detailed public account of what she meant in that exchange, so her statement should be understood as her allegation rather than an established legal finding.
O’Day’s history with Combs and Danity Kane
O’Day became known as a member of Danity Kane, the girl group created through Combs’ MTV reality series Making the Band 3. The group was signed and managed through Combs’ Bad Boy-related business operation.
Combs removed O’Day from Danity Kane in 2008. She later discussed the circumstances of her departure on the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2022. O’Day said she had been unwilling to do what Combs expected of her “not talent-wise, but in other areas.” She did not specify those areas during that interview.
That history made her response to the 2024 indictment especially notable. However, reports about her departure and later comments do not establish that she was one of the women identified as a victim in the federal indictment.
Her earlier support for Cassie Ventura
O’Day had already spoken publicly about Combs before his arrest. In November 2023, after singer Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs, O’Day voiced support for Ventura.

In a 2024 interview with People, O’Day said she did not feel “vindicated” simply because allegations against Combs had become public. Her September 2024 wording was more specific: she said she felt validated after the arrest and indictment, in the context of her own past experiences and years of criticism.
The legal timeline
It is important to separate O’Day’s reaction from the legal status of Combs’ case at the time. When she posted her message, Combs had been arrested and indicted, not convicted. The Justice Department described the charges as allegations, and Combs pleaded not guilty.

The later verdict and sentence are separate from O’Day’s original statement. She was responding to the arrest and indictment in September 2024, not celebrating a conviction. The jury’s verdict also did not find Combs guilty of every charge brought in the indictment.

Why the comment attracted attention
O’Day’s post was notable because it connected a major federal case to the less visible power dynamics she had described from her time working within Combs’ music empire. Her words reflected a broader argument often made by people who speak publicly about alleged abuse: that official investigations or legal proceedings can provide recognition after years of dismissal or silence.
At the same time, the available reporting does not turn every claim surrounding O’Day’s relationship with Combs into a proven fact. Her statements should be attributed to her, while the federal charges and later convictions should be described according to the court record. Those distinctions matter, particularly in a case involving multiple allegations, charges with different outcomes and extensive public commentary.

The Bottom Line
Aubrey O’Day’s “validated” comment came immediately after Sean Combs’ September 2024 arrest and indictment. It reflected her publicly stated experience and support for other women, but it should not be confused with a claim that she was named in the federal indictment or with a reaction to Combs’ later 2025 conviction.
