All four children of actor Martin Sheen and artist Janet Templeton worked in or around acting, although Emilio built a major career as an actor-director, Ramon’s documented credits are more limited, and Renée combined acting with writing. Charlie was born Carlos Irwin Estévez; he adopted “Charlie Sheen” professionally, while his siblings kept the Estevez surname.
The Sheen–Estevez family at a glance
Martin Sheen’s legal name is Ramón Estevez. His children used different professional identities: Carlos became Charlie Sheen, while Emilio, Ramon and Renée retained Estevez. The Hollywood Walk of Fame identifies all three siblings as actors.

Who is Emilio Estevez?
Emilio Estevez is the most prominent of Charlie’s siblings as a filmmaker in his own right. His acting credits include The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, Young Guns and The Mighty Ducks. He also wrote and directed, and he directed and appeared in The Way (2010, released across the 2010–2011 cycle), in which Martin Sheen plays a father who undertakes the Camino de Santiago after his son’s death.
Why Emilio kept the Estevez name
Emilio has said that retaining Estevez was a deliberate decision rather than an oversight. In an interview with The Guardian, he recalled, “My decision was met with a lot of resistance at the time,” and explained that his father had earned the Sheen name while he had not. Keeping Estevez also preserved the family’s Spanish heritage in his public identity.

Emilio and Charlie’s shared films
The brothers appeared together in at least two widely recognized films:
- Young Guns (1988): Emilio and Charlie appeared in the Western ensemble.
- Men at Work (1990): They again shared the screen, playing working brothers caught up in a comic crime story.
What does Ramon Estevez do?
Ramon Estevez is the second child in the family. Emilio’s first-person account for The Washington Post names Ramon as one of the four children who traveled with their parents during Martin Sheen’s jobs. IMDb’s biographical entry identifies Ramon as an actor and producer and lists credits connected with Anger Management and Anne of Green Gables projects.
Rank #2
Those database listings do not establish a complete or current filmography. The safest description is that Ramon has worked as an actor and producer, with a smaller publicly documented profile than Emilio or Charlie.
Who is Renée Estevez?
Renée Estevez is the family’s only daughter and an actor whose credits include Heathers, Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers, Intruder, The War at Home and Single White Female. Apple TV’s filmography also credits her with writing work on Anger Management.

Her career connects her to both film and television, but she has maintained a lower public profile than her brothers. Use the accent in Renée when referring to her by the spelling used in published filmographies.
How the four siblings were raised
Emilio described a mobile childhood shaped by Martin Sheen’s acting work. In his Washington Post essay, he wrote that his parents believed “for the family to stay together, the family had to literally stay together.” The children—Emilio, Ramon, Carlos (Charlie) and Renée—often traveled with their parents and spent extended periods on location, including time in the Philippines during the production of Apocalypse Now.
Rank #4
ABC News, reporting on an interview conducted while Emilio and Martin promoted The Way, said Emilio described the siblings as raised “under the same roof” in Malibu and said they followed “the same set of rules.” These accounts explain why the family’s professional lives overlap without implying that every sibling pursued the same career.

The Way
Emilio directed The Way and cast Martin Sheen as its lead. The film follows a father completing the Camino de Santiago after his son’s death and draws on the family’s Spanish background. It is the clearest example of Emilio and Martin working together as director and star.
Best Value
Young Guns and Men at Work
These are the best-known feature-film collaborations between Emilio and Charlie. Their shared appearances place the brothers in the same projects, but the films do not represent a permanent joint production partnership.
Along the Way
Along the Way, described by Simon & Schuster as a dual memoir by Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez, adds family and career anecdotes to the screen work. It is a father-and-son book rather than a memoir by all four siblings.
