The official trailer for Alien: Romulus arrived on June 4, 2024, promising a return to the franchise’s creature-centered horror: young space colonizers scavenge a derelict station and encounter a deadly life form. The film opened in U.S. theaters on August 16, 2024. The studio spells the creatures “facehuggers,” as one word.
What the trailer shows
20th Century Studios’ official trailer sets up a group of young space colonizers exploring a derelict space station. Their scavenging brings them into contact with a dangerous life form, shifting the expedition into survival horror. The trailer’s focus on the threat and the crew’s confined setting signals a return to the series’ emphasis on suspense and its alien creatures. Watch the official trailer.
That premise is not the film’s full plot: the trailer announcement describes the setup, not every development in the finished movie. Disney published its trailer announcement on June 4, 2024, and described the group as young space colonizers facing a deadly life form. Disney UK’s announcement.

How the film builds its horror
Alvarez said he aimed to evoke the original film’s horror atmosphere. In a Disney production interview, he described combining practical effects, animatronics, and miniatures with contemporary computer-generated imagery: “That’s why we built everything on practical effects, animatronics, [and] miniatures for the spaceships, and combined them with the latest computer-generated work that the best companies like Industrial Light & Magic and WĒTĀ can provide.” Read Disney’s interview with Alvarez.
