Alexander: The Making of a God is a six-part Netflix documentary series that combines expert interviews with reenactments to portray Alexander the Great’s rise and campaigns. It premiered on January 31, 2024. The episode guide, cast and production credits below explain what the series covers; its consultant’s involvement is relevant context, but does not establish that every dramatized scene is historically accurate.
What is Alexander: The Making of a God?
Netflix classifies the 2024 title as a documentary. Its format combines expert interviews and reenactments. Netflix’s synopsis describes Alexander’s “burning desire to conquer the world”; that is promotional wording, not a historical conclusion.

Lion TV describes it as a six-part drama documentary tracing Alexander’s transformation from warrior prince to living god. The production company says the series interweaves drama, academic expertise and archaeology, including excavations in Alexandria led by Calliope Limneos-Papakosta. Those are descriptions of the production’s approach, not a guarantee that every scene or interpretation is settled history.
How many episodes are there?
Netflix lists six episodes. Its catalogue descriptions frame a story beginning with Alexander’s accession and conflict with Darius III, then moving through Issus, Egypt and the Persian campaign. This is the series’ chosen scope, not a complete account of Alexander’s life.

Rank #2
Lion TV says the series was co-produced by Lion TV and Tailfeather Productions. Lucy van Beek created the series and is an executive producer for Tailfeather Productions; Nick Catliff is an executive producer, and Tony Mitchell is showrunner. The listed directors are Hugh Ballantyne, Stuart Elliot and Mike Slee.
Is the series historically accurate?
The series includes academic consultation, but the available production and institutional descriptions do not verify each scene. The University of Nebraska Omaha announced on January 30, 2024, that Jeanne Reames, an associate professor of history and director of its Ancient Mediterranean Studies Program, served as senior historical consultant. The university says she advised the production team, showrunner and writers about historical accuracy. That establishes her consulting role; it does not make every reenactment or dramatic interpretation an independently confirmed historical fact.
It helps to distinguish the programme’s stated subject matter from its reconstruction. Netflix’s episode descriptions identify the events and campaigns the episodes frame. Reenactments are a dramatic device, while specific scene details and interpretations require checking against historical evidence. The production and university pages do not provide a scene-by-scene assessment, so they cannot support a blanket verdict that the series is either wholly accurate or inaccurate.
