If the Adult Swim app is not working, first determine whether the failure affects all videos or only provider-locked episodes and the live simulcast. Try an unlocked episode or marathon, then test Adult Swim in a browser, on another device, or over a different network. That quickly separates an app or connection problem from TV-provider authorization, device compatibility, licensing, or an Adult Swim-side issue.
The steps below are written primarily for U.S. viewers using the Adult Swim app, website, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, or Android.
Identify what is actually failing

First check whether the problem is an outage
- Play an episode without a key icon or start a free marathon stream.
- Open adultswim.com and test the same or another video.
- Try cellular data instead of Wi-Fi, or Wi-Fi instead of cellular data.
- Test another streaming app on the same device.
- Try Adult Swim on a second device.
- If only the live simulcast fails, test on-demand content and, where available, the other simulcast feed.
If free content fails across multiple devices and networks, the problem is more likely to be service-side. Isolated social-media posts, Reddit threads, or app-store complaints do not prove that Adult Swim is experiencing a current service-wide outage. Check Adult Swim’s official contact and help resources for a current notice.
Quick fixes for an app that crashes, freezes, or will not load
1. Force-close Adult Swim
Close the app completely rather than simply returning to the device home screen. Reopen it and retry the same video. On Roku, Fire TV, and Apple TV, return to the device home screen before reopening Adult Swim.

2. Restart the device
Restart your phone, tablet, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or streaming stick. If you see a black screen on a television, also power-cycle the TV, receiver, or HDMI switch. Retry Adult Swim before changing account settings.
3. Update the app and operating system
Open the device’s official app store, install any Adult Swim update, and apply pending operating-system updates. Restart after updating. Adult Swim lists Android mobile and tablet, iPhone, iPad, Roku, Fire TV, and the web among its supported options; Apple’s U.S. App Store listing also includes Apple TV. That listing currently states a minimum of iOS 15.0 and tvOS 15.6, but those Apple requirements should not be generalized to Android, Roku, or Fire TV. Check the current store listing for your device at Adult Swim’s supported-device guidance and the Apple App Store listing.
4. Reinstall only after checking your credentials
Before uninstalling, make sure you know the username and password for your TV provider. Then uninstall Adult Swim, restart the device, reinstall the app from its official store, and test free content first. Reinstalling cannot restore a missing channel entitlement, make an unsupported device compatible, or repair an Adult Swim-side outage.

Adult Swim’s mobile FAQ recommends Wi-Fi or LTE and notes that weak connections can cause stalling. Try these checks:

- Open another app or website on the same device.
- Restart the modem and router.
- Move closer to the Wi-Fi access point.
- Switch temporarily between Wi-Fi and cellular data.
- Disable a VPN, proxy, private DNS, content filter, or network-level ad blocker.
- Try another network if possible.
A speed test alone does not prove that Adult Swim’s video or authentication services are reachable. If other services work while Adult Swim fails, continue with app, browser, and provider troubleshooting.
Understand the key icon and provider login
Adult Swim’s app is free, and free marathons, select episodes, and other unlocked streams can be watched without a cable login. A key icon means that the selected content requires TV-provider verification. After successful authentication, Adult Swim says the key indicator changes to a checkmark. See the official explanation of free and locked content.
The required login is normally for a participating cable, satellite, or television provider that includes Adult Swim—not simply an Adult Swim account, internet subscription, Roku ownership, or Fire TV ownership. If you only have internet service, that does not by itself authorize locked content.
Sign out and authenticate again
- Open Adult Swim settings.
- Choose the cable-login or TV-provider option.
- Log out.
- Close and restart the app.
- Choose your provider again and sign in with that provider’s credentials.
- Test an unlocked video, then retry the locked title.
If the provider is not listed, or your television package recently changed, consult Adult Swim’s provider guidance. Contact the provider if it does not carry Adult Swim or if your package no longer includes the channel.

Specific Xfinity/Comcast fix
Adult Swim documents a separate procedure for Xfinity authentication failures:
- iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV: Open the device settings, find TV Provider, and check Adult Swim’s Xfinity access. Turn that access off, or log out of Xfinity on the device. Restart Adult Swim and try Cable Login again. If needed, return to the TV Provider settings and allow Adult Swim access again.
- Roku, Fire TV, or Android: Open Adult Swim settings, choose Cable Logout, restart the app, then return to settings and choose Cable Login.
Adult Swim also warns that changing an Xfinity package tier can remove Cartoon Network/Adult Swim authorization. If that happened, reinstalling the app will not restore access; ask Xfinity whether your package still includes Adult Swim. See Adult Swim’s mobile FAQ and TV FAQ.
Fix buffering, black screens, or audio-only playback
Buffering
Restart the app and device, test another network, and temporarily disable VPNs and filtering tools. If the player offers an image or resolution control, tap the video and choose a lower resolution. Adult Swim says its player can change bitrate according to download speed.

Very low speeds can result in audio-only playback. Lower the resolution, restart the app, update the app and device, and test without network filtering. On a TV, try another HDMI port or display path and compare another streaming app. This symptom can originate with the connection, app, device, or display path; it is not automatically an HDMI or DRM fault.

Black screen
Force-close and restart Adult Swim, check the network, disable VPN or filtering, and update the app. If only the television shows a black screen, power-cycle the TV and connected receiver or HDMI switch, then try another HDMI port. If another app also shows a black screen, investigate the device or display rather than Adult Swim alone.
Fix website login and browser playback
If adultswim.com will not play or authenticate:
- Try a private or incognito window.
- Try a second supported browser.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy tools, script blockers, VPN extensions, and similar add-ons.
- Clear cookies and site data for Adult Swim, then sign in again.
- Allow pop-ups and cross-site authentication if the provider login requires them.
Adult Swim’s web login uses TV-provider credentials for provider-locked content. A browser account and TV-provider authorization are not necessarily the same thing. The official login guidance is available at Adult Swim’s website help page.

Adult Swim’s simulcast is programming shown at the same time as the television schedule, and access is tied to an eligible paid TV package that includes Adult Swim. First test an unlocked on-demand episode. If that works:
- Reauthenticate your TV provider.
- Confirm that the package still includes Adult Swim.
- Check whether the app offers separate East and West feeds and test the other feed.
- Determine whether the failure affects one program or the entire simulcast.
- Try the simulcast on another supported device or the official simulcast page.
If only the simulcast fails across devices while free content works, escalate to Adult Swim after confirming provider eligibility.

Fix one unavailable episode or a “Video not found” message
Try another episode and look for a key icon. If only one title is unavailable, the cause may be provider locking, licensing, regional availability, or a temporary catalog issue. Adult Swim says licensing agreements differ by show and episodes may rotate, so not every series has identical availability. Do not reset your entire account or device for a single unavailable episode.
Stop Chromecast or AirPlay playback
Closing Adult Swim may not stop a casting session. Return to the app, tap the casting icon, and choose Disconnect. If necessary, use Stop Casting in Google Home for Chromecast. Disconnect each connected device if more than one appears.
Choose the right escalation path
Contact your TV provider when:
- The provider is missing from Adult Swim’s list.
- Your package no longer includes Adult Swim.
- Your provider credentials are rejected outside the Adult Swim app.
- Your account or package changed recently.
- The provider says your subscription does not include the channel.
Contact Adult Swim when:
- Free unlocked content fails on multiple devices and networks.
- The app still crashes after updating and reinstalling.
- Your participating provider is valid but authentication repeatedly fails.
- A reproducible playback error affects the app or website.
- A casting session cannot be ended normally.
Use the Adult Swim support request form. Include your device and operating system, app version, TV provider, exact error message, affected title, network type, whether free content works, and which troubleshooting steps you have already tried. This gives support enough information to distinguish a device problem from an entitlement or service issue.

Where else can you watch Adult Swim?
If your goal is on-demand programming rather than the live simulcast, Adult Swim’s FAQ points viewers without a qualifying TV package to its collection on Max. Catalog availability, plans, pricing, and regional rights can change, and Max should not be treated as a guaranteed replacement for the live simulcast.
YouTube TV may allow eligible subscribers to sign in to Adult Swim as a network site, according to YouTube TV’s official help page. Confirm current channel access before subscribing. Buying a Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or another supported device can help when your current hardware is unsupported or defective, but hardware cannot fix missing provider authorization or an Adult Swim-side outage.
Outside the United States, availability differs. Consult Adult Swim’s Where to Watch page for country-specific services rather than assuming that the U.S. app and simulcast rules apply worldwide.
