This editorial ranking weighs critic reception alongside Statham’s role, the action style, tone and variety; it includes both lead vehicles and ensemble films, but not every crime caper in his filmography. Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer guide, updated May 1, 2025, provides one useful critical baseline—not a definitive verdict.
How this ranking works
These are recommendations, not an objective scorecard. The order considers how well each film uses Statham, how distinctive its action is, its tone and genre, and critical reception as one factor among several. A lower Tomatometer does not automatically mean a less satisfying Statham showcase. The percentages below are Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer scores on its guide updated May 1, 2025; they reflect critics’ reviews, are not audience ratings, and may change.
The selection includes solo leads, franchise appearances and ensemble films. It leaves out crime comedies such as Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels: worthwhile Statham films, but less directly suited to a list focused on action movies.
The 16 best Jason Statham action movies
-
The Transporter (2002) — the defining solo action vehicle
Statham’s breakout lead role as Frank Martin gives this film its central appeal: a cool, disciplined driver whose rules are made to be broken. Its creative, close-quarters action choreography helped establish the screen persona he would revisit in later films. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 53% Tomatometer, but the score does not capture the movie’s importance as a Statham-led action showcase. Tom’s Guide also highlights the Frank Martin character and choreography in its Statham movie recommendations.

Wrath of Man (2021) — a grim, controlled revenge thriller
Statham plays a mysterious security-van guard in this action-packed reunion with director Guy Ritchie. Its straight-faced mood and deliberate buildup distinguish it from the more comic or flamboyant entries here. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 68% Tomatometer.
-
Crank (2006) — the high-concept adrenaline rush
Statham’s poisoned hitman must keep his adrenaline up, turning a simple premise into a deliberately excessive sprint. The film’s stylized action and assaultive pace make it a strong pick when you want mayhem rather than realism. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 62% Tomatometer; Tom’s Guide likewise emphasizes the adrenaline-driven setup and over-the-top style in its guide.
-
Furious 7 (2015) — Statham as a formidable franchise antagonist
This is an ensemble Fast & Furious film, not a Statham solo vehicle. He brings menace to the franchise as Deckard Shaw, while the movie delivers large-scale spectacle and a dramatic dimension beyond its action set pieces. Rotten Tomatoes lists an 81% Tomatometer, the highest among the selected films.
-
The Bank Job (2008) — a grounded heist alternative
For a change from relentless fight scenes, this period crime thriller puts planning and interpersonal tension at the centre. It is based loosely on a 1971 London robbery, and Tom’s Guide singles it out as a more grounded heist film. Choose it for a crime story with pressure and complications rather than nonstop action. Its Tomatometer figure is not stated in the cited guides.

The Beekeeper (2024) — retrograde justice, cheerfully delivered
One of Statham’s recent lead vehicles, this is a direct, old-school revenge thriller for viewers who want a clear target and forceful action. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 71% Tomatometer and its Critics Consensus calls it “Cheerfully undemanding and enjoyably retrograde,” adding that Statham “hasn’t lost his sting.”
-
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) — an over-the-top buddy spectacle
Statham shares the spotlight with Dwayne Johnson in this franchise spin-off. The appeal is the contrast between the two leads and the deliberately outsized action, not a grounded story. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 67% Tomatometer.
-
The Italian Job (2003) — a nimble ensemble heist
This entertaining heist remake gives Statham a place in a team rather than making him the sole attraction. Its appeal is the combination of a caper setup, ensemble dynamics and action, making it a good choice if you prefer a group operation to a lone-hero thriller. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 72% Tomatometer.
-
Crank: High Voltage (2009) — the first film turned up further
The sequel takes the original’s frantic premise and pushes its cartoonish energy even harder. It is best for viewers who already enjoy Crank and want more of its deliberately unrestrained style, not for anyone seeking realism. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 64% Tomatometer.

The Expendables 2 (2012) — old-school action as a team sport
Statham is part of a deliberately star-studded action ensemble. The film’s draw is the group spectacle and throwback action mood rather than an intimate character study or a Statham-only showcase. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 68% Tomatometer.
-
Fast & Furious 6 (2013) — a franchise introduction with a hook
Statham’s appearance is brief and tied to the franchise’s ensemble story, so this is a pick for viewers following the wider series rather than a standalone Statham vehicle. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 71% Tomatometer.
-
The Mechanic (2011) — a classic hitman setup
Statham plays Arthur Bishop, an elite assassin, in a straight-ahead thriller built around the professional-killer premise. It suits viewers who want a focused Statham action lead rather than a high-concept comedy or ensemble spectacle. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 54% Tomatometer.
-
Transporter 2 (2005) — bigger, less restrained Frank Martin
The sequel brings back the driver-turned-action-hero and leans into the series’ exaggerated fun. It is an easy next choice if the first Transporter works for you and you want the same character in a more over-the-top outing. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 52% Tomatometer.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023) — the lighter spy caper
For a playful change of pace, this globe-trotting action caper puts Statham in a lighter spy-adventure mode. Tom’s Guide describes it as lively and lightweight, making it the pick here for a less grim, more comic outing. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 52% Tomatometer.
-
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) — crime comedy, not a conventional action pick
This early Guy Ritchie crime comedy is action-adjacent rather than a typical Statham-led action film. It earns a place for readers who want to see the crime-world role that preceded his major action-hero identity, but its ensemble crime-comedy form is why it sits below the more direct action recommendations. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 75% Tomatometer.
-
Snatch (2000) — a crime caper with Statham in the mix
Statham plays Turkish in Guy Ritchie’s crime caper, another ensemble entry that is less of a conventional action showcase than the films above. It rounds out the list for readers interested in the actor’s crime-film roots. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 74% Tomatometer.
