Craig Ferguson’s flirting on CBS’s The Late Late Show was a recurring comic technique, not a single infamous interview. He mixed compliments, questions about clothing, innuendo, exaggerated embarrassment and long awkward pauses, then let guests accept, redirect or outdo the joke.

The ten moments below range from widely reported exchanges to fan-recommended clips. They are best understood as improvised television chemistry, not evidence of genuine romantic interest.

What made Ferguson’s flirting distinctive

Ferguson rarely delivered a polished pickup line and moved on. He treated the interview itself as a playful risk: notice an outfit, ask one question too many, pause when the guest pushes back, and then turn his own discomfort into another joke. That rhythm gave guests room to control the exchange.

  • Appearance-based compliments: Clothes, legs and stage outfits became comic subjects.
  • Innuendo: Ordinary answers could be steered toward sex, dating or performance.
  • Mock embarrassment: A silence, stammer or sudden subject change was often the punchline.
  • Guest participation: The strongest clips work because the guest redirects or matches him.

The ten moments at a glance

# Guest What the available record establishes Evidence status
1 Meghan Markle Inside Edition reported an appearance-focused exchange around her mini-dress. Published entertainment report
2 Alice Eve Vice highlighted saucy repartee; a fan compilation passed three million views. Published report plus resurfaced clip
3 Mila Kunis Episode listings confirm 2011 and 2012 appearances; fan pages describe banter and a snake-cup callback. Episode-confirmed, clip-led
4 Evangeline Lilly Meaww described repeated questions about her outfit and her joking pushback. Secondary report
5 Miranda Kerr Meaww quoted Kerr redirecting an underwear-performance joke back at Ferguson. Secondary report with quoted line
6 Kate Mara Fan discussion presents Mara as unusually flirtatious and briefly leaving Ferguson speechless. Fan-sourced clip recommendation
7 Kristen Bell Fans point to a continuing comic relationship across several appearances, including Geoff Peterson. Fan-sourced recurring rapport
8 Jennifer Love Hewitt Episode records confirm a 2011 appearance; fan lists identify it as a memorable interaction. Episode-confirmed, segment unresolved
9 Amanda Peet Fan recommendations call the pairing especially witty and flirtatious, without a reliable transcript. Fan-sourced recommendation
10 Jennifer Tilly Fans cite a notably seductive comic tone, but the archive and wording need confirmation. Lower-confidence archive lead

The moments, guest by guest

1. Meghan Markle: the most overtly appearance-focused example

In a 2013 interview later resurfaced online, Inside Edition said Ferguson “couldn’t take his eyes off Meghan’s thigh-high mini-dress.” The report framed the exchange as so appearance-focused that later viewers read it as over the top.

#1 Best Overall

That makes Markle the clearest published example of Ferguson’s visual-comedy approach: the outfit is not incidental, but the subject of the interview’s tension. The clip is also a reminder that a host’s comic framing and a viewer’s comfort with it are separate questions.

2. Alice Eve: saucy repartee that became a YouTube staple

Vice used Alice Eve to illustrate why old Ferguson interviews found a second life online. Channel creator Fly described the exchange as “particularly saucy repartee,” and a compilation of Eve’s appearances passed three million views.

The appeal is the back-and-forth rather than one definitive line: Ferguson tests a flirtatious premise, Eve answers on her own terms, and the timing keeps changing. Because circulating compilations can trim setup and reaction shots, watch the complete segment before treating any isolated joke as the whole exchange.

3. Mila Kunis: banter, a snake cup and the useful pause

Episode listings place Kunis on the show in 2011 and 2012. Fan episode pages describe playful banter, a callback involving a snake cup and an awkward pause that becomes funny precisely because neither performer rushes to fill it.

This is comic chemistry, not proof of romantic interest. Ferguson’s pause lets Kunis decide whether to continue, redirect or let the joke hang; that shared control is what distinguishes the segment from a one-sided proposition.

4. Evangeline Lilly: when outfit questions meet a boundary joke

Meaww’s account says Ferguson repeatedly returned to Lilly’s “little outfit” until she jokingly characterized his behavior as that of a pervert. The important beat is the reversal: his attempt to keep the clothing joke alive gives Lilly the chance to label the tactic and take command of the scene.

Because the wording comes through a secondary report, use the video itself for the exact phrasing and sequence. The exchange belongs on this list for its structure—persistence followed by a guest-imposed boundary—not for a claim about either person’s intentions.

5. Miranda Kerr: the guest redirects the premise

Meaww quoted Kerr asking: “Apart from the women being in the underwear is there anything else that’s different about you performing on the show?” Her question answers Ferguson by turning his own premise into the punchline.

That redirect is the memorable part. Rather than merely accepting an innuendo about an underwear performance, Kerr widens it into a joke about what Ferguson is actually doing differently. The guest, not the host, gets the final framing.

6. Kate Mara: the clip in which Ferguson reportedly loses his footing

Fan discussion describes Mara as unusually flirtatious with Ferguson and says she left him briefly speechless. Treat this as a clip recommendation rather than an independently reported fact: the available material does not provide a dependable transcript or a settled air date.

If the exchange feels different from the host’s usual routine, it is because the comic pressure appears to run both ways. Mara’s confidence changes Ferguson’s role from instigator to participant, and the silence becomes his reaction rather than his planned device.

7. Kristen Bell: a recurring comic relationship, not one proposition

Fans point to Bell’s multiple appearances and an ongoing comic relationship involving Ferguson and the Geoff Peterson robot. The flirtation here is cumulative. Repeated visits allow callbacks, familiar embarrassment and a shared fictional rhythm to build over time.

That history matters more than isolating a single suggestive sentence. Bell’s willingness to return to the bit, and the show’s use of Geoff as a third player, make the interaction feel like an evolving performance partnership.

8. Jennifer Love Hewitt: the archive confirms the guest, not the exact segment

Episode records confirm Hewitt appeared in 2011, and fan discussions list the interview among Ferguson’s memorable interactions. Reports and fan references variously point toward vampire material or innuendo, but they do not establish one definitive segment for quotation.

For a responsible clip guide, identify the full 2011 interview first, then name the precise exchange being discussed. The confirmed fact is her appearance; the flirtatious moment remains a segment-level identification task.

9. Amanda Peet: a fan-favorite pairing without a settled transcript

Fan recommendations repeatedly place Peet among Ferguson’s strongest witty, flirtatious pairings. No reliable published transcript emerged for the exchange, so this entry should be read as an archive-led recommendation rather than a fully documented quotation.

What makes the pairing worth revisiting is the reported balance of wit: Ferguson supplies the risky setup, while Peet’s answers keep the conversation from becoming a routine compliment sequence. Verify the complete clip before attaching a specific line to either performer.

10. Jennifer Tilly: seductive comic tone, lowest archival certainty

Fan discussion cites Tilly as a guest with a particularly seductive comic vibe. It is the least securely documented item here: the exact episode and wording need confirmation from the broadcast archive or full video.

Keep the claim narrow. Tilly belongs on a watch list for the tone of the exchange, not as proof of a ranked “best” interview or a verified statement about either person’s private feelings.

Why these interviews resurfaced

Clips from The Late Late Show found a new audience through YouTube compilations and recommendation chains. Vice quoted Fly, a creator of a Ferguson interview channel, saying, “He is seen as an icon for flirting.” Vice also reported millions of views for compilations involving guests such as Markle and Eve, turning scattered late-night appearances into an easily searchable catalogue.

That circulation changes how the moments are remembered. A short edit can foreground a look, pause or punchline while removing the setup that explains the guest’s response. Full-length interviews preserve the improvisation that made the exchanges work.

How to interpret the flirting without overreading it

  • Separate performance from private intent. Nothing in these clips establishes a real romantic interest.
  • Give the guest equal agency. Redirects, teasing and refusals are part of the comic construction.
  • Distinguish evidence levels. Entertainment reports and episode databases document some moments; fan discussions identify others for viewing but do not independently verify every line.
  • Do not treat the list as a statistical ranking. No authoritative study measures or orders Ferguson’s flirtatious interviews.
  • Check the full clip for quotations. Exact air dates, timestamps and wording remain unsettled for several entries.
