War 2 is a globe-spanning spy-action spectacle built around a straightforward pursuit: Agent Kabir has gone rogue, and Agent Vikram is sent after him. Its stars and changing backdrops supply much of the appeal, but reviewers found the story and action less convincing than the scale suggests. Whether it works for you depends on how much you value spectacle over narrative coherence—and whether you want to spend nearly three hours with a franchise thriller.
What is War 2 about?
Yash Raj Films’ official premise sets up Agent Kabir as a rogue operative and Agent Vikram as the agent sent to pursue him. The studio frames their confrontation as a global battleground. In The National’s account, the stakes also include Kabir being ordered to eliminate his mentor, Colonel Sunil Luthra, with Vikram dispatched to stop him. Yash Raj Films’ official film page provides the studio’s premise; the additional mission detail is reported by The National.
Who is in the cast, and where does it fit in the franchise?
Hrithik Roshan and NTR play the central rivals, with Kiara Advani among the leads. Ayan Mukerji directs; Aditya Chopra is credited as producer and story author, and Shridhar Raghavan wrote the screenplay. The Central Board of Film Certification’s cited record is for the Tamil-language version, certified in Mumbai on 8 August 2025, and describes War 2 as the sixth film in the YRF Spy Universe. That record also names Ashutosh Rana among the supporting actors. CBFC record.
Does the world tour make the film worth watching?
The film’s geographic sweep is a clear part of its pitch. India Today describes settings including India, Spain, Russia, Switzerland and Manali; The National mentions a conflict reaching Valencia, Venice and Abu Dhabi. These locations give the action varied scenery, but the reviews do not treat scenic range as a substitute for a story that holds together.

India Today reviewer Vineeta Kumar’s assessment is pointed: “The backdrops are postcard-perfect, but when the plot is flatter than the Swiss plains and the thrills are almost as believable as a snowstorm in Delhi, the scenery becomes just a bright wallpaper.” That is the reviewer’s criticism of the film’s plotting and plausibility, not a neutral description of its action. What do the reviews say about the story and action?
The sampled reviews lean critical on narrative coherence and believable action, while still recognizing the leads and the spectacle. Kumar argues that the story is weak, the action unrealistic and the film unsure what kind of story it wants to be. David Tusing of The National likewise criticizes the convoluted plot and implausible action, but credits Roshan and NTR with earnest performances; he rated the film 2/5. His review says, “But despite earnest performances by Roshan and NTR, the convoluted story fails to hold your attention.”

Who is likely to enjoy War 2?
- Consider it if: you enjoy star-led spy action, changing international backdrops and large-scale set pieces, and can accept a story that reviewers found convoluted or implausible.
- Be cautious if: narrative logic, grounded action or a tightly focused plot matters more to you than spectacle. The critical concern across the cited reviews is that the scenery and performances do not consistently make up for those weaknesses.
- For franchise newcomers: it is the sixth YRF Spy Universe film, so its place in a larger series may matter to viewers following the franchise. The available sources do not establish how much prior-film knowledge a newcomer needs.
