The Richest Dead Celebrity? How Elvis Presley’s Estate Still Earns Money

Elvis Presley ranked seventh on Forbes’ 2025 list of highest-paid dead celebrities, with estimated earnings of $17 million for the 12 months from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025. That is a Forbes estimate—not an audited account of estate income—and it reflects several businesses and rights rather than one disclosed revenue stream.

How much does Elvis Presley make after death?

Forbes estimated Presley’s earnings at $17 million in its 2025 ranking, placing him seventh. The estimate covers October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. Forbes says its figures draw on sales, streaming, licensing and other sources, using Luminate data and industry interviews; they are pretax and do not deduct agent, manager or lawyer fees. The ranking is not a public accounting of the estate’s net income. Forbes’ 2025 ranking

Forbes also says Presley has appeared in every edition of its ranking over 25 years and estimates his cumulative earnings across those rankings at more than $1.2 billion. That is a Forbes estimate across the ranking’s history, not audited estate accounts. Forbes’ 2025 report

Where does the money come from?

Forbes identifies music sales and streaming, licensing, publishing rights and revenue connected to Graceland among Presley’s continuing income sources. Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE) operates the Graceland tourism business and surrounding shopping mall, handles Elvis licensing, and holds what remains of Presley’s publishing rights, according to Forbes. The published estimate does not divide the $17 million among those activities, so no reliable channel-by-channel breakdown is available. Forbes’ 2025 report

Music sales and streaming

Recordings continue to reach listeners through sales and streaming, while physical releases remain part of the picture. Graceland’s official press archive, for example, records a limited-edition Elvis vinyl release. That announcement establishes vinyl as a product category, but it does not establish that a particular edition is currently available. Graceland press releases

Licensing and publishing

Licensing allows Elvis’s name and related intellectual property to be used in authorized products and projects. Forbes also identifies the remaining publishing rights as part of EPE’s business. The public figures do not specify how much either licensing or publishing contributed to the latest estimate.

Graceland tourism

Graceland is more than a mansion tour: its official visitor materials describe exhibits, a visitor complex, a hotel and events as part of the experience. Graceland’s official site Forbes reported in 2024 that Graceland had welcomed 600,000 visitors in the preceding year, attributing the figure to family representatives. It is an attributed historical count, not an independently audited or current annual total. Forbes’ 2024 ranking

Who owns Graceland, and who controls EPE?

Graceland itself and the company operating parts of the Elvis business are distinct interests. Forbes reports that Presley’s estate fully owns Graceland, with granddaughter Riley Keough controlling the estate. The family reportedly owns 15% of EPE, while Authentic Brands Group controls and manages the remainder. Owning the landmark does not mean the family owns all of the operating company. What the earnings estimate does—and does not—show

The $17 million figure is useful as a measure of the estimated earning power associated with Presley’s name and assets during a defined year. It is not evidence that the estate received $17 million in net profit, nor does it reveal which business contributes the most. Forbes’ methodology combines different kinds of evidence and does not provide an audited channel-by-channel statement.

  • It does show: Forbes’ estimated pretax earnings for the specified 12-month period and Presley’s place in that year’s ranking.
  • It does not show: a breakdown among Graceland, recordings, licensing and publishing; the estate’s net income; or a current annual visitor count.

Why Elvis memorabilia needs authentication

Presley’s enduring commercial appeal also creates a market where provenance matters. Graceland says its archive contains more than 1.5 million archival pieces and offers authentication guidance. Its official guidance emphasizes provenance and notes that some ownership claims do not withstand archival scrutiny. Buyers considering memorabilia should check the documentation and authentication process rather than relying on a seller’s unsupported claim. Graceland’s authentication guidance
