Its most distinctive tension comes from pairing that intimate family conflict with visceral body and creature horror.
What is The Demon Disorder about?
Brothers Graham, Jake and Phillip are forced to confront the damage their family has left behind. Graham has left the childhood farmhouse and built a life around his auto body shop. Jake remains at the farmhouse with their younger brother, Phillip. When Jake turns up at Graham’s garage and invokes a “blood oath,” he persuades Graham to return.
The official synopsis presents the supernatural crisis as possession: Jake tells Graham that Phillip is possessed by their deceased father. Cheryl Eddy’s review for io9, however, describes a film less concerned with defining exactly what occult force is at work. The premise supplies a clear reason for the brothers’ reunion, while the uncertainty leaves room for the story’s more grounded concerns—grief, estrangement and the way family pain can be passed on.
How does the family drama shape the horror?
The brothers’ conflict is not just a setup for the frightening scenes. Graham’s reluctance to return, Jake’s insistence that he come home, and the echoes between Phillip’s violent shifts and their father’s decline make the family history part of the threat. The farmhouse and garage give the story two contrasting spaces: the place Graham escaped and the life he made elsewhere.

Eddy reads the illness metaphor as perhaps too obvious, but argues that the brothers’ reconciliation thread gives the film added complexity. That is one critic’s assessment rather than a measure of wider reception. The emotional stakes are clearest when the brothers must decide whether they can face their shared past together.
Is The Demon Disorder body horror?
Yes. Eddy’s review highlights hideous wounds, flesh-splitting violence, blood, animal carcasses and “slithering, oozing creature horror.” The effects appear mostly practical in the critic’s view; that is an observation about what is on screen, not a confirmed account of the production methods.

The review compares some of the imagery to The Thing, Alien and Evil Dead II. Those are critical comparisons, not established influences. The film’s body horror is tied to its family story: physical transformation and violence make the brothers’ inherited damage grotesquely visible.
Who made the film, and who is in it?
Steven Boyle directed and co-wrote The Demon Disorder, with Toby Osborne also credited as a writer. AMC Global Media described it as Boyle’s feature directorial debut and noted his special-effects background—a useful context for a film whose identity leans heavily on creature and body effects.
