For a YouTube music playlist that must stay live around the clock, choose between a local encoder such as OBS and a cloud playlist broadcaster. OBS gives you direct control but your computer and internet connection have to keep running. A cloud service runs the broadcast remotely, so you do not need to leave a computer on. For the cloud option, StreamNeo is #1: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Best tools for a continuous YouTube music playlist
| Rank and option | How it works | Best fit | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then start the cloud stream. It loops uploaded videos remotely. | Creators who want a continuous YouTube broadcast without keeping a computer on. | One flat price per slot for uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps; each slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots. One free day per account, with no card required. |
| 2. OBS running a local encoder | Play a prepared playlist on a computer and send its output to YouTube through an encoder. | Creators who want hands-on control and can keep the computer and connection available. | YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health. YouTube does not specify a special minimum PC model for this playlist use case. |
| 3. Streamloop | The vendor says its playlist can run as one continuous live stream, with videos added or replaced while live. | Creators who need to change playlist items during an ongoing broadcast. | These are vendor-described features, not independent reliability or value findings. Confirm current pricing, limits, and rights requirements with the provider. |
| 4. Looping Stream | The vendor describes continuous repeat playback. | Creators looking for a hosted repeat-playback workflow. | Confirm current playlist support, pricing, limits, and rights requirements directly; vendor claims are not independent tests. |
| 5. LiveGoLive | The vendor describes an uploaded playlist generating a continuous broadcast without a local computer left running. | Creators seeking a remote playlist-to-live workflow. | Confirm current pricing and capabilities directly. The available vendor description does not establish comparative reliability or performance. |
The cloud services above are listed according to their described workflows, not a measured reliability ranking. YouTube documents encoder streaming and settings, but does not endorse a particular computer or third-party broadcaster.
Choose local encoding or cloud playback
Local encoder: control in exchange for an always-on setup
With OBS or another compatible encoder, your own computer generates the broadcast. It must stay running, with a working internet connection, for the stream to continue. This route lets you configure the encoder yourself and monitor the output directly. YouTube does not publish a special minimum computer model for running a continuous music playlist; suitability depends on the encoder settings, media, and the machine’s ability to sustain the job.
Cloud broadcaster: remote operation in exchange for provider limits
A cloud playlist broadcaster sends uploaded media from the provider’s infrastructure. Its appeal is that your local computer can be off. Before choosing one, check whether its playlist workflow supports the changes you need, what the current price and storage limits are, and how it handles interruptions. Provider descriptions establish advertised capabilities, not independent performance or reliability.

Check YouTube eligibility and music rights first
- Channel eligibility: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days to enable live streaming. See YouTube’s live-streaming help.
- Policy compliance: Live content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A looping workflow does not change those requirements.
- Broadcast rights: Make sure you have permission to broadcast both the recordings and compositions in the playlist, as well as any accompanying video. A loop or a general music subscription does not itself grant those rights.
Set up a local YouTube playlist stream with an encoder
- Prepare a rights-cleared playlist. Organize the audio and video you intend to play, and verify that your permissions cover continuous live broadcasting on YouTube. Test the actual media you plan to use.
- Confirm live access. Verify the channel and check its live-stream restriction status in YouTube Studio. If live streaming is unavailable, resolve channel eligibility before configuring the encoder.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Open the live control room, configure the broadcast, and obtain the stream key. Keep the key private: anyone with access may be able to send video to your channel. Use YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions at YouTube Help.
- Configure OBS or another encoder. Add the prepared playlist as the media source, set the encoder to match the intended output, and enter YouTube’s server and stream-key details. YouTube recommends RTMPS for typical encoder streaming. For current codec, frame-rate, keyframe, and audio guidance, follow YouTube’s encoder settings rather than relying on settings copied from an old guide.
- Test before the full run. YouTube recommends a test with representative audio and movement. Check that the playlist advances, the audio is audible, the picture is stable, and the connection can sustain the selected settings.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Start streaming from the encoder, confirm the preview and status in YouTube’s live control room, then keep an eye on stream health. A local continuous stream depends on the computer, encoder, and connection remaining available.
When HLS is relevant
RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended choice for typical encoder streaming. HLS is another supported ingestion method for compatible encoders, including OBS according to YouTube Help, but it is not required for every continuous playlist. YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP and sets specific playlist and segment requirements. Use it only when your workflow or encoder requires it, and follow the current YouTube HLS setup guidance. Google’s developer documentation explains that HLS uses media playlists and segments to form a continuous decodable stream; it is not a substitute for YouTube’s creator-facing configuration instructions: Google’s HLS documentation.

Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification and whether the channel has had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s eligibility guidance before troubleshooting OBS.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm that the stream key and server details in the encoder match the current live setup. Keep the stream key private; if you suspect it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The preview is unstable or the broadcast drops: Check the connection and encoder load, test again with representative media, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring; it does not promise that any particular home connection or computer will sustain a 24/7 stream.
- The playlist stalls or the sound is missing: Test the media files and playlist behavior before the full broadcast. Check that the selected media source advances as intended and that audio reaches the encoder output.
- A cloud service cannot play a desired playlist change: Confirm its current rules for adding, replacing, or reordering media while live. Streamloop, for example, says those updates are possible, but that is a vendor claim and should be confirmed with the provider.
- Copyright claims or restrictions interrupt a music stream: Recheck permissions for each recording and composition. A technical ability to loop a track does not establish the right to broadcast it.
Cost and practical trade-offs
A local encoder avoids a cloud broadcaster’s subscription but uses a computer and internet connection continuously; possible hardware, electricity, and connection costs depend on what you already have and your location. Cloud pricing and limits vary by provider and can change, so compare current plan terms, storage, playlist controls, recovery behavior, and cancellation options before committing. StreamNeo offers daily, weekly, monthly, six-month, and yearly billing for the same product; its plans differ by duration, not streaming quality tier.
