How to Make a YouTube Live Replay Playlist Start With the Latest Event

Put the newest event replay first by editing its YouTube playlist and dragging the recording above older videos. You’ll need to repeat this manual step after each event.

To make the latest YouTube Live replay appear first, add the finished recording to your playlist and move it to the top in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s documented playlist controls support manual reordering; they do not describe an automatic setting that continually puts new live replays first.

Before reordering, confirm the replay is available

A replay has to exist before you can move it into the first position. In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the Live tab to find past live streams. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.

If the recording is missing, confirm that the stream has ended and check its archive in Content > Live. For an important event, YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup; this is separate from changing the playlist order.

Put the newest event recording first

  1. Open the playlist in YouTube Studio. Go to Content > Playlists, find the playlist you want to update, open its menu, and choose Edit on YouTube. YouTube documents this route in its playlist-management instructions.
  2. Move the replay to the top. Drag the latest event recording above the older videos. YouTube’s playlist instructions say to drag and drop a video up or down to reorder.
  3. Check the viewer-facing playlist. Open the playlist as viewers see it and confirm the intended recording is first. If the archive is private or not visible to your audience, check its visibility in the live video’s details in YouTube Studio.
  4. Repeat after each event. Add the new replay and move it to the first position. The documented controls provide manual ordering, not automatic newest-first placement.

YouTube also recommends organizing live-stream archives and highlight clips into playlists. See YouTube’s advice on promoting a live stream.

Permanent playlist order versus a temporary reorder

Where you reorder What it does When to use it
Playlist editing Changes the playlist’s order. Drag the video to the desired position in the playlist editor. Use this when the newest replay should be first for viewers who open the playlist later.
Watch-page playlist panel Reorders videos temporarily in the playlist panel. Useful for a viewing session, but not a substitute for changing the playlist itself.

YouTube documents both playlist editing and reordering videos on a playlist page; its playlist instructions distinguish the temporary watch-page reorder from the lasting playlist arrangement.

If the replay still is not first or visible

  • The replay is absent: Check YouTube Studio > Content > Live after the stream has ended. Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. If the event matters, keep a local archive as backup.
  • The order changes back: You may have reordered videos only in the watch-page playlist panel. Open the playlist for editing and drag the replay there instead.
  • The replay is in the playlist but viewers cannot see it: Check the archive’s visibility in its YouTube Studio details. Playlist position does not make a private or otherwise unavailable video visible.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a different job—keeping uploaded recordings looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream—StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not change the order of archived replays in a YouTube playlist.
