To run a 24/7 YouTube channel through Wowza’s cloud service, create a YouTube live event, create a 24×7 channel in the current Wowza Video interface, and configure Wowza to send its output to YouTube using that event’s server URL and stream key. Then start the source and check both the Wowza input and YouTube preview. First confirm that your Wowza account has 24×7 streaming enabled: it is not available in a trial account. YouTube eligibility is separate from Wowza access.
Know which Wowza product this setup uses
Wowza Streaming Cloud is now called Wowza Video. For this guide, the relevant setup is a Wowza Video 24×7 channel: your encoder or other supported source sends video to Wowza, and Wowza sends the stream to YouTube.
This is different from a Wowza Streaming Engine configuration. Engine is a separate product with its own application and stream-target setup. An Engine tutorial may describe adding a YouTube Live target inside an Engine application; that is not the same workflow as creating a cloud 24×7 channel in Wowza Video.
Here, “24×7” describes Wowza’s channel workflow and billing mode. YouTube remains the destination, with its own event setup, eligibility rules, and archive behavior. Neither a Wowza channel nor its settings grant a YouTube channel permission to livestream.

Check YouTube and Wowza eligibility first
YouTube live access
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If you have never enabled live streaming on the channel, activation can take up to 24 hours. Complete that step well before the planned launch rather than waiting until the Wowza setup is finished.
Wowza 24×7 access and account terms
A Wowza trial account does not include 24×7 streaming. Wowza’s setup guidance directs users to contact Wowza to enable it. Before choosing a billing mode, check the current terms and available features in your account: 24×7 billing varies by mode, and the billing mode cannot be changed after the channel is created.
Do not assume that every Wowza plan, 24×7 configuration, or passthrough option is available in India. Wowza’s API location list includes asia_pacific_india, but that alone does not establish availability for a particular account or plan. Confirm the eligible broadcast locations and current pricing with Wowza before committing.

Prepare your source and YouTube event
Choose a source that can run continuously
You need an encoder or other supported source that can provide the video to Wowza for the duration of the broadcast. Use Wowza Video’s supported connection workflow for your source; the exact connection settings depend on that source and the options shown in your account. Keep the source’s output settings compatible with the Wowza input configuration.

For a documentary, music, worship, or other looping channel, the source must also have the rights needed to broadcast all of its picture and sound. A video being publicly available or suitable for a loop does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it.
Create a YouTube live event
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and create a live event or stream for the channel.
- In the event’s Live Control Room, choose the encoder workflow and note the YouTube server URL and stream key. Use the primary server URL presented for the event.
- Keep the stream key private, as you would a password. Someone who obtains it may be able to send content to that event.
- For initial checks, use a test or unlisted event where appropriate. Do not begin with a public broadcast until YouTube receives the signal and shows the expected preview.
Create the Wowza Video 24×7 channel
- Sign in to Wowza Video and open the Live streams page.
- Select Add new, then choose 24×7 channel.
- Enter a channel name and choose a broadcast location close to where the source originates. If you are streaming from India, select a nearby eligible location shown in your account; do not assume a specific location is available just because it appears in an API location list.
- Review the displayed billing mode and account terms before creating the channel. The mode cannot be changed after creation, and charges vary by mode.
- Configure the channel’s input using the connection workflow supported for your encoder or source. Apply those connection details to the source, but do not start a public YouTube event before you have checked the target and preview.
Wowza’s setup guidance describes 24×7 channels as always-on channels. It also says they do not automatically stop after 20 minutes of encoder inactivity. That behavior is not a substitute for monitoring: a disconnected or silent source can still leave viewers with a failed or empty broadcast.

Configure Wowza to send the channel to YouTube
- In Wowza Video, open the 24×7 channel’s output or target configuration and add an external RTMP service target for YouTube.
- Select an output rendition supported by the channel and your intended YouTube stream. Wowza’s YouTube workflow uses an output rendition and an external RTMP target.
- Paste the YouTube server URL from the event’s Live Control Room into the target’s server or primary URL field, and paste the event’s stream key into the stream-key field.
- For this Wowza Video external RTMP workflow, leave the target username and password fields blank.
- Save the target, then review the destination URL and key before enabling it. Keep the key out of public notes, screenshots, and shared documents.
Do not mix these instructions with Wowza Streaming Engine’s YouTube-target fields. Engine uses a separate product workflow even though the destination credentials are also obtained from YouTube.
Start the stream and verify both ends
- Start the Wowza Video live stream or channel using the controls shown for that channel.
- Start the configured source encoder so it sends video into Wowza.
- Check Wowza’s input status and preview or playback. Confirm that the expected picture and sound are arriving, not just that the channel appears active.
- Check the external target’s status in Wowza. Then open the YouTube Live Control Room and wait for its preview to appear.
- Check the YouTube preview for picture, audio, and the correct event. When the preview is healthy, use YouTube’s controls to make the event public or go live as intended.
- After launch, verify the public watch page from a separate viewer session and continue monitoring the source, Wowza target, and YouTube event.
A successful Wowza input does not prove that YouTube is receiving the output, and a configured target does not prove that the source is sending usable video. Treat the input, target, and YouTube preview as separate checks.
Plan bandwidth, monitoring, and recovery
Leave upload headroom
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total bitrate being sent. For example, if the combined outgoing stream bitrate is 10 Mbps, plan for at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity under the conditions where the source will operate. This is a planning margin, not a guarantee that a variable connection will remain stable.

Use a simple operating runbook
For a channel that must stay live, write down who checks it and what to do when it fails. A practical check should include source output, Wowza input status, Wowza target status, the YouTube preview, and the source network. Define who restarts a failed source, checks the target credentials or event, and escalates an outage. A redundant source or network path can reduce dependence on one component, but it is an operational choice, not a requirement established for this setup.
No always-on workflow should be treated as an uptime guarantee. Monitor the stream after launch and periodically thereafter; an “active” indicator alone may not reveal missing audio, frozen video, or an inaccessible YouTube event.

Do not rely on YouTube to archive one uninterrupted 24/7 event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a recording matters, keep a local archive and decide whether to end and restart YouTube sessions before the 12-hour threshold. That choice affects continuity and scheduling, so test the plan rather than assuming a 24/7 live event will produce a complete replay.

Wowza Video’s 24×7 stream cannot be recorded in Wowza Video, so it is not a replacement for a separate recording plan. YouTube’s live-stream terms require rights for worldwide use of the live content, including music, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The requirements for a particular Indian broadcast depend on its content and circumstances; confirm the relevant permissions and rules rather than assuming a continuous loop is exempt.
Troubleshoot common setup failures
