To send an OBS broadcast to IBM Video Streaming, select the IBM channel, copy that channel’s RTMP address and stream key from its Encoder Settings, then enter them in OBS under Settings > Stream > Custom Streaming Server. This sends the broadcast to IBM—not to YouTube. YouTube is a separate destination with its own ingest settings and stream key.
Connect OBS to an IBM Video Streaming channel
You need access to the IBM Video Streaming channel you want to broadcast to. IBM’s setup instructions use the channel’s own encoder credentials; do not substitute a YouTube key or credentials from an older IBM or Ustream encoder plugin. See IBM’s encoder setup guide and OBS setup instructions for IBM Video Streaming.
- Select the destination channel in IBM. In the IBM Video Streaming dashboard, choose the channel that should receive the broadcast.
- Open its encoder settings. Open Channel > Broadcast Settings, or open Broadcast Settings from the channel overview, then find Encoder Settings and select View.
- Copy the channel credentials. Copy the displayed RTMP address and Stream Key. Use the values shown for this channel rather than an example URL or another channel’s credentials.
- Set the destination in OBS. Open Settings > Stream. Select Custom Streaming Server (the wording can vary by OBS version), paste the IBM RTMP address in the server field and the IBM key in the stream-key field, then apply the settings.
- Choose secure ingest when IBM provides it. If the channel’s settings provide an RTMPS endpoint, use that secure endpoint instead of plain RTMP. IBM’s guide shows an example format of
rtmps://CHANNELID.ingest.video.ibm.com/ustreamVideo/CHANNELID; the actual endpoint in your dashboard takes precedence over the example. - Start and verify the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS, then check the IBM channel or remote console for the incoming stream. The viewer destination is the IBM channel.
IBM also documents optional auto-recording and a Remote Record Console in its Broadcast Settings guide. Neither is required just to connect OBS.
Where to find the IBM RTMP URL and stream key
Both values are channel-specific and appear in that channel’s Broadcast Settings > Encoder Settings view. IBM’s API documentation distinguishes an ingest URL, secure ingest URL, permanent channel key and temporary streaming key; the temporary key expires after 10 minutes. For OBS setup, use the credential intended for your broadcast and follow the labels in the channel dashboard rather than mistaking a short-lived key for a durable one. See IBM Video Streaming API documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Treat the stream key like a password. IBM warns that someone who has both the RTMP URL and key may be able to broadcast to the channel.
- Do not share screenshots or recordings where the key is readable.
- If a key is exposed, replace or regenerate it using the controls IBM makes available for the channel, then update OBS.
OBS settings beyond the server and key
The server URL and key identify where OBS sends the stream; they do not determine a universally correct video bitrate or encode profile. OBS advises setting bitrate in view of your available upload speed and the destination service’s limits. IBM’s available multi-quality renditions depend on encoder settings, account configuration and stream setup. Check the current IBM specifications that apply to your account and production before choosing output values; do not assume one bitrate fits every resolution or channel. See OBS streaming guidance and IBM Video Streaming technical specifications.
In OBS, the service selection should remain a custom server when you are sending to IBM. The destination credentials are the essential fields for this connection; choose encoding and bandwidth settings based on the current service limits and your connection rather than copying a generic preset.

IBM Video Streaming or YouTube: choose the intended destination
IBM Video Streaming and YouTube are separate ingest destinations. The IBM RTMP address and key configure OBS to send to IBM. If viewers should watch on YouTube instead, configure OBS with YouTube’s own service or ingest settings and YouTube stream key. OBS lists YouTube RTMPS separately from a custom server in its maintained streaming services configuration. The IBM credentials do not configure a YouTube broadcast.
| What you want | OBS destination | Credential source |
|---|---|---|
| Viewers watch the IBM channel | Custom Streaming Server | That IBM channel’s Encoder Settings |
| Viewers watch the YouTube channel | YouTube service or its configured ingest destination | YouTube’s own live-stream settings |
Can OBS send to IBM Video Streaming and YouTube at the same time?
Yes, but that is a multistream setup, not a single-destination IBM connection. One documented option is Restream. IBM’s support article explains how to use it for multiple publishing points and notes that using IBM as a custom RTMP platform through Restream requires an additional cost. Check Restream directly for current pricing, availability and account requirements. Other multistream approaches may exist; compare current destination support, how each handles stream keys, and whether the workflow needs additional upload bandwidth or encoding resources. See IBM’s guide to broadcasting to multiple publishing points.

Troubleshooting an OBS-to-IBM connection
- OBS connects to the wrong destination: Check Settings > Stream. For IBM, use the custom-server option and IBM’s channel-specific URL and key; the YouTube service uses separate credentials.
- IBM does not receive the stream: Confirm that you selected the intended IBM channel and copied its current address and key exactly. Remove accidental spaces or line breaks, and verify you used the endpoint type provided by the channel.
- A temporary key no longer works: IBM documents a 10-minute expiry for the temporary streaming key. Get a valid credential from the channel’s encoder settings and update OBS.
- The stream starts but quality or renditions differ from expectations: Check the current IBM technical specifications and your channel configuration. Available multi-quality renditions depend on encoder settings, account configuration and stream setup.
- Connection works on one network but not another: IBM documents firewall requirements for broadcast traffic. On a managed or corporate network, ask the network administrator to check the current IBM requirements rather than opening ports based on an unverified generic list.
