If audio and animation stop lining up in a 24/7 YouTube stream, first determine whether the mismatch is fixed, grows over time, appears only on YouTube, or affects only one viewer. Test a representative segment, check YouTube’s Live Control Room errors, and then make measured changes to the part of the pipeline implicated by the results. A viewer waiting several seconds for a live event to appear is experiencing stream latency, not necessarily audio/video desynchronization.
First identify the kind of sync problem
Compare the same visible event and sound in a local encoder recording or preview and in the delivered YouTube stream. Note which arrives first, whether the offset stays about the same or grows, and whether the problem occurs for multiple viewers or just one playback device. This comparison is a diagnostic approach, not a specific procedure prescribed by YouTube or OBS.
- Fixed offset: The sound consistently leads or trails the animation by roughly the same amount. Measure the offset before adjusting timing.
- Growing offset: The mismatch becomes more pronounced as the stream runs. A one-time timing adjustment may not address the underlying issue; inspect the source and encoding pipeline over time.
- Local output is synced, YouTube is not: Focus on encoder output, stream health, and the connection to YouTube.
- Only one viewer reports it: Compare another device or playback session before changing the stream configuration.
- Everything arrives late, but audio matches animation: That is capture-to-viewer latency, a separate setting and trade-off.
Run a representative test before changing settings
Test with the same kind of moving animation and audio mix used in the actual 24/7 stream. YouTube recommends that tests include audio and movement similar to the planned stream, and advises monitoring stream health and messages. Check sync at the beginning and again after an observation period long enough to reveal the pattern you are investigating. A short test cannot establish that a stream will remain synced for days.
Keep notes on the test conditions and outcome: which sound or animation event you compared, whether audio led or trailed, whether the offset changed, and whether YouTube reported errors. Change one relevant setting at a time, then test again so you can tell whether the change helped.

Check YouTube Live Control Room and encoder settings
In YouTube Live Control Room, inspect the Health Indicator and timestamped errors. YouTube says errors continue to appear while they remain unfixed; red errors are critical and yellow errors are moderate. Address errors that apply to the stream, then retest.
Documented error categories include incorrect video or audio formats, bitrate or sample-rate problems, missing or multiple audio or video streams, unsupported interlaced video, frame-rate or keyframe-frequency issues, resolution mismatch, and mismatched primary and backup streams. Use the current encoder settings shown for your stream and the codec and channel configuration you actually use.

| Setting | YouTube guidance | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Protocol and codecs | RTMP/RTMPS; H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio | Choose a supported combination for your encoder and check Live Control Room errors. |
| Rate control | CBR | Use constant bitrate for the stream configuration. |
| Frame rate | Up to 60 fps | Keep the encoder output within the supported range. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds | Check the encoder’s keyframe setting and the stream’s reported errors. |
| Stereo audio | 44.1 kHz sample rate; 128 kbps audio guidance | Use stereo settings only if the stream is actually stereo. |
| 5.1 audio | 48 kHz sample rate; 384 kbps audio guidance | Use 5.1 settings only for a 5.1 stream; do not copy them into a stereo configuration. |
YouTube’s current encoder-settings guidance lists these recommendations; follow the settings displayed for the stream and the applicable codec rather than treating a value for one audio layout as universal.
Correct a measured, stable offset
If the delivered program has a consistent offset, establish whether sound or animation arrives first, then adjust the relevant encoder timing control in small, measured steps. After each adjustment, check the encoded output or start a new test stream and compare the same event again. Avoid guessing the direction or size of an adjustment: those depend on the control and setup in use.

OBS’s cited connection-troubleshooting guidance does not document the source sync-offset interface. For exact control names and directions, consult the current official OBS documentation for your installed version rather than relying on generic menu instructions.
Investigate drift or instability over time
If the mismatch grows, treat it as a pipeline investigation rather than assuming that a fixed offset will solve it. The following are diagnostic checks, not confirmed causes of progressive drift in 24/7 animated streams:

- Review the animation playback and audio-source pipeline for changes or interruptions during sustained operation.
- Check audio device or source clocking, encoder load, and encoder logs over the period when drift develops.
- Monitor YouTube stream health and the connection throughout operation, not only at startup.
- If OBS reports dropped frames, check whether the connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi may be unstable.
OBS’s connection troubleshooting article, dated September 30, 2024, suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting bitrate when reducing bitrate to improve connection stability. This is a general starting point in that troubleshooting context, not a YouTube-specific ideal or an audio-sync formula. YouTube also cautions that network congestion can delay a stream even when the connection can sustain the average bitrate. An Ethernet cable is relevant only if unstable Wi-Fi is part of the problem; it will not correct an encoder timing offset.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose latency for interaction, not as a sync fix
YouTube defines stream latency as “the delay between your camera capturing an event and the event being displayed to viewers.” Its latency modes change the capture-to-viewer delay and buffering trade-off; they do not by themselves make audio match animation inside the program.

| Latency mode | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Non-interactive streams | Positioned by YouTube as its highest-quality option with the lowest viewer buffering. |
| Low | Limited interaction | Low and ultra-low latency do not support 4K, according to YouTube’s current guidance. |
| Ultra-low | Real-time engagement | May increase buffering; low and ultra-low latency do not support 4K. |
For a continuous animation stream with little or no real-time interaction, choose latency according to the need for interaction and tolerance for buffering, not in the expectation that it will repair an internal audio/video mismatch.
