Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf OBS is counting network-dropped frames, first test the connection from your computer to the streaming platform’s ingest server: try another server, use Ethernet if possible, and lower the bitrate until it remains stable with upload headroom. A speed-test result alone cannot prove that the stream route is reliable around the clock. Check the OBS counter before changing settings: rendering lag and encoder overload are different problems and need different fixes.
These steps use YouTube’s published settings as a concrete example. If you stream to another platform, use that platform’s current ingest and encoder recommendations. There is no basis for treating Indian internet connections as one uniform problem; check your own Wi-Fi, shared upload use, ISP route, and selected ingest server.
Identify which OBS counter is rising
Open the OBS status bar or the Statistics window while the stream is running. Look for the specific counter that increases, rather than treating every stutter as a dropped-frame problem. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate (OBS Project, Stream Connection Troubleshooting).
- Network dropped frames: OBS is having trouble delivering encoded video to the platform. Investigate bitrate, ingest routing, and the local or ISP connection.
- Rendering lag: OBS is struggling to compose the scene, often because the GPU or scene workload is too high. Simplify scenes or reduce output resolution or frame rate.
- Encoder overload: Encoding is falling behind. Check the encoder and system workload; reducing output resolution or frame rate may help.
A stream can also look choppy to a viewer even when OBS does not report network-dropped frames. That can involve viewer playback or buffering rather than a failure to deliver frames from the broadcaster.

Save an OBS log before changing several things
Record which counter rises, when it happens, and whether OBS shows a yellow or red connection indicator. Save the log for the affected session and use OBS’s log-analysis guidance or share it with support. A log and timestamps are more useful for diagnosis than a single speed-test number. Avoid changing several settings at once: make one change, then compare behavior over a similar test period.
Test the ingest route, then choose a sustainable bitrate
Compare servers using the actual stream
In OBS, try a different ingest server when the platform offers a server selection. Compare the network-dropped-frame behavior over matched test periods with the same video settings. A server that appears geographically nearest, or responds to a quick ping, is not necessarily the most stable route for sustained streaming.
Leave room for other upload traffic
Lower the video bitrate in Settings → Output, then observe the live connection. OBS Project’s 2024 guidance gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting point; YouTube Help recommends leaving 20% of available upload bandwidth as headroom. These are guidance figures, not guarantees. Account for uploads from other people and devices sharing the connection, and leave additional room if the route varies.

A speed test measures capacity under its own conditions. It does not establish stable throughput to the selected streaming server at every hour. For a long meditation stream, prefer a bitrate that stays stable during a realistic test over the highest bitrate a brief test appears to permit.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Use YouTube’s current recommendation for the selected format
The following are YouTube Help’s recommended H.264 bitrate examples; they are not universal settings for every codec or connection. Confirm the current table for your codec, resolution, and frame rate before applying a value. YouTube’s recommendations differ for AV1 and H.265.
| Output format | YouTube recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
| 1440p at 30 fps | 21 Mbps |
| 1440p at 60 fps | 34 Mbps |
In OBS, YouTube’s encoder guidance calls for CBR and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. The bitrate table and encoder guidance can change, so consult YouTube’s current live encoder settings before a new setup. YouTube automatically transcodes live feeds into multiple formats for viewers; choosing a higher broadcaster bitrate is not a substitute for a stable connection.

Remove local network variables
Test with Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi
If OBS is connected over Wi-Fi, run a comparable test over wired Ethernet. Keep the video settings and test period as similar as possible. If the dropped-frame rate improves on Ethernet, Wi-Fi instability may be contributing. If it does not, that does not rule out the router, ISP route, or ingest server.
Check VPNs, security tools, and network-priority utilities
Temporarily test whether a VPN or security product is interfering with the stream connection. Restore security protections after the test; if a product is confirmed to be the cause, use its supported configuration to allow OBS rather than leaving protection disabled. Also check for bundled network-optimization or traffic-priority software that may be managing OBS traffic.

Inspect networking hardware and drivers
Restart or check the modem and router, and inspect the cable, network adapter, switches, or extenders if the evidence points to a local hardware issue. Check that network drivers are current. These are diagnostic checks, not a promise that replacing equipment will resolve congestion or a route problem beyond your home.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Use OBS network controls cautiously
OBS documents network optimizations and TCP pacing as Windows-only options, and dynamic bitrate as a congestion mitigation that lowers video quality rather than fixing the underlying cause. Change one control at a time and compare results. If forcing IPv4 makes no difference, return the IP family setting to its default. For details and the current option names, follow the OBS connection troubleshooting guide.
If network drops are not rising, troubleshoot rendering or encoding
When network-dropped frames remain stable but rendering lag or encoder overload rises, focus on the computer rather than lowering bitrate alone. OBS’s encoding-performance guidance suggests reducing output resolution or frame rate, simplifying scenes and sources, and avoiding unnecessary 4K sources when the output is smaller. Moving from 60 fps to 30 fps can reduce the work required. Use the log and observed counter to establish a bottleneck before considering hardware changes.

Test the real program, not just a blank scene
Before relying on a continuous stream, run a test with the actual audio, visual motion, resolution, frame rate, and approximate bitrate. Check OBS’s counters and YouTube’s stream-health status after launch. YouTube’s streaming tips emphasize having a reliable network because a connectivity disruption can break a stream.

Choose latency for the audience, not by default
A meditation stream usually does not need low latency unless you are interacting with viewers in real time. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering. Choose a latency mode based on whether live interaction matters, then assess actual stream health and viewer playback.
Plan monitoring and recovery
Do not treat a bitrate setting as an uptime guarantee. Keep a way to check OBS and YouTube stream health, and test your event preparation and backup-encoder failover plan if continuous availability matters. YouTube documents stream-health monitoring and backup-encoder testing, but those recommendations do not by themselves define a complete OBS-specific 24/7 recovery design.
When to contact your ISP
If the problem persists after testing another ingest server, reducing bitrate, and checking local networking variables, contact your ISP and provide useful evidence rather than a general report that “the internet is slow.” Include:
- timestamps for the drops and the OBS log from the affected session;
- the selected ingest server and bitrate, resolution, frame rate, and codec;
- whether a wired test behaves differently from Wi-Fi;
- whether changing ingest servers changes the result; and
- whether the problem is limited to one platform or route.
The ISP may need to investigate congestion or routing outside the home. The available platform guidance does not establish a nationwide Indian connection problem or identify a preferred ingest location for every Indian streamer.
Or let it run in the cloud
