Best Bitrate for a 24/7 YouTube Music Radio Stream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For stereo music on YouTube Live, use AAC audio at 128 Kbps, with a 44.1 kHz sample rate. That is YouTube’s recommended stereo audio setting; it is separate from the video bitrate for your image, visualizer, or other picture. Choose the video bitrate for your resolution and frame rate, then test the complete stream and monitor YouTube’s stream health.

Recommended audio settings for stereo music

  • Codec: AAC.
  • Bitrate: 128 Kbps.
  • Sample rate: 44.1 kHz.
  • Channels: Stereo.

YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS live ingest and identifies AAC as required for 5.1 surround in that workflow. For a stereo music-radio stream, AAC at 128 Kbps follows YouTube’s documented recommendation. These are technical encoder settings, not a promise of a particular audible result or stream stability. YouTube’s live encoder settings give the recommendation.

Set video bitrate separately

The 128 Kbps recommendation applies to the audio track, not the entire stream. If the broadcast includes a static image, visualizer, or other video, set its video bitrate according to YouTube’s range for the selected video codec, resolution, and frame rate. The total stream carries both audio and video, so do not treat 128 Kbps as the overall upload bitrate.

A mostly static radio visual may allow you to choose a modest supported video configuration, but YouTube’s bitrate guidance is organized around resolution and frame rate, not whether a scene is static. There is no single universal video bitrate for every 24/7 music stream. Check the current video table in YouTube’s encoder settings for your chosen format.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Configure ingest and encoding

  • Ingest protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS.
  • Bitrate encoding: YouTube lists CBR (constant bitrate) for encoding.
  • Stream key: Use the key associated with the YouTube Live event or stream in your encoder, and keep it private. Confirm the encoder’s selected ingest mode and settings match the YouTube workflow.

Exact controls and labels depend on the encoder you use; YouTube’s recommendations do not prescribe one universal application menu path. Consult the encoder’s documentation for where to set AAC, sample rate, channels, CBR, and video parameters.

Test the stream before leaving it on

  1. Check the connection. Run an internet speed test from the location and network that will carry the broadcast. Upload capacity and stability depend on your setup; YouTube does not specify a universal headroom multiplier for this 24/7 use case.
  2. Run a preflight with representative content. Test the actual audio and the visual material, including movement if your stream uses it. A silent test or a different video does not verify the program you intend to broadcast.
  3. Check YouTube’s feedback. Watch stream health and messages in YouTube Live Control Room while the test is running. YouTube’s Live API health feedback can include audio bitrate and codec warnings; address warnings before relying on a continuous broadcast. See YouTube Live API stream health documentation.
  4. Monitor after launch. A successful preflight does not guarantee that a connection or encoder will remain stable indefinitely. Plan how you will check stream health and respond to warnings during the broadcast.

Keep a 24/7 stream running

The bitrate recommendation does not solve the operational question of keeping an encoder and connection running continuously. If you operate the stream yourself, assess whether your computer, network, and monitoring plan can stay available. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers, but creators still need to send a reliable source stream and monitor its health. The official guidance does not prescribe a special bitrate just because a broadcast lasts 24 hours.

Do not substitute tables from another Google streaming product: the separate Google Cloud Live Stream API describes its own workflow and audio settings, which are not YouTube Live’s recommendation. Its stereo figures should not replace YouTube’s 128 Kbps guidance. See Google Cloud Live Stream API encoding guidance.
