Recommended OBS settings for a YouTube stream
Use YouTube’s encoder guidance as the platform target and your measured, sustained upload as the practical limit. The figures below are YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates; they do not include audio or other devices’ upload traffic. See YouTube’s encoder settings and live-streaming guidance for current recommendations.

Set the encoder and transport
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Codec: H.264 is the basis for the bitrate table above. YouTube also supports H.265/HEVC and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS; select only a codec supported by both your chosen OBS encoder and YouTube’s ingest workflow. Consult YouTube’s current guidance for those codecs’ bitrate ranges.
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport.
- Audio: AAC or MP3 are listed for RTMP/RTMPS. YouTube recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio.
OBS labels and available encoder choices can vary with its version, operating system, and hardware. Apply the settings in the streaming output controls, and confirm the active encoder, codec, rate control, bitrate, and keyframe interval before going live.
Choose a bitrate Airtel can actually sustain
Airtel’s advertised Fiber tiers are maximum speeds (“up to”), and availability depends on the address. They do not establish the sustained upload speed or stability of a particular connection. Check the plan and availability for your location through Airtel’s broadband plan page, then measure upload from the computer and network path that will run OBS. Do not select a bitrate from the plan’s download figure.

Measure, leave headroom, and test
- Run an upload speed test at the streaming computer, at the intended location and connection method. Repeat at times when household or office network use is typical.
- Choose a YouTube-recommended video bitrate below the upload capacity you can sustain, leaving room for ordinary fluctuations, audio, and other upload use. A speed-test peak is not a guarantee of continuous performance.
- Test a representative scene with the movement and audio you expect in the real stream. YouTube specifically advises testing with comparable audio and video movement before starting a live stream.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health status and OBS’s connection statistics during the test. Look for connection trouble or dropped frames before committing to a long run.
If the line cannot reliably sustain a higher resolution or frame rate, lower the output target and test again. Raising bitrate when the network is already unstable can make delivery worse rather than improve picture quality.
Does Airtel Xstream Fiber support a 24/7 stream?
It may support a stream if the particular connection can sustain the chosen upload rate, but the plan name or advertised speed alone cannot answer that for your address. Airtel’s terms describe a 3333 GB monthly fair-usage threshold; after that, speed may be reduced to 1 Mbps. Airtel also says the FUP may be amended. Check the current terms for your market at Airtel’s broadband terms rather than treating “unlimited” as no data threshold or throttling.

Estimate data use before leaving OBS running
For a rough estimate, add the video and audio bitrates, convert megabits to megabytes by dividing by eight, then multiply by the stream’s hours. For example, a 10 Mbps video stream plus 128 Kbps stereo audio is about 10.128 Mbps before protocol overhead and other traffic. That is roughly 4.56 GB per hour, or about 3.28 TB over 30 days if it ran continuously at that rate. Actual use can differ; allow for overhead and other household traffic, and compare the estimate with the applicable billing-cycle threshold.
Compare Airtel plans using measured upload stability at your address, the advertised speed ceiling, local availability, the current FUP, and expected data use at your selected bitrate—not advertised download speed alone.

Set up OBS and YouTube for a long-running broadcast
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select a broadcast and retrieve its stream key. Enter the key in OBS’s streaming configuration. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel.
- In OBS, select the encoder and apply the tested codec, CBR, bitrate, 2-second keyframe interval, audio settings, and stream transport. Match the resolution and frame rate to the bitrate you know your connection can sustain.
- Start a test stream with representative audio and motion. Confirm YouTube reports healthy ingestion and OBS is not reporting persistent dropped frames or connection problems.
- For the actual run, monitor the connection and YouTube stream health. If network frames drop, investigate the measured connection and local network first; OBS’s connection troubleshooting includes trying a different server. Do not respond by simply increasing bitrate.
- Before relying on a purported 24/7 broadcast, check YouTube’s current rules on maximum broadcast duration and archiving. The guidance cited above does not establish an unlimited broadcast duration or guaranteed continuous uptime.
Copyright and continuous-play content
Technical stability does not grant rights to the video or audio being streamed. Use material you own or are authorized to broadcast, including music, footage, and any third-party clips. Review the copyright safety checklist before scheduling a continuous loop. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether OBS successfully sends a signal; do not assume that looping content is automatically permitted or eligible for monetization.

Can OBS loop a video file for a YouTube livestream?
Yes. Add the video as a Media Source in an OBS scene and enable its loop option. Test playback and audio before starting the broadcast.
Can I use the same YouTube stream key again?
A stream key can be reused when you want to connect OBS to the same configured YouTube stream, but keep it private and replace it in YouTube if you believe it has been exposed.
