Apple Music Sing Not Working on iPhone? 8 Fixes for iOS 26

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Apple Music Sing needs a supported iPhone, current iOS, and a song that supports the feature. Apple lists iPhone 11 or later and iPhone SE (3rd generation); the microphone control can still be absent for an individual song. First test a second track from the Apple Music catalog: if Sing works there, your phone is likely fine and the original track is the issue.

Check what is actually failing

In Apple Music, play a song, tap the current song to open the full player, then tap Lyrics. The microphone or Vocal Volume control appears within the lyrics view when the track supports Sing. Apple’s instructions for lyrics and Sing also note that lyrics may be unavailable if a song is not from the Apple Music catalog, the device is offline, or the content cannot be retrieved.

  • No Lyrics button: Check the song source and connection, then test another catalog track.
  • Lyrics but no microphone: Check iPhone compatibility and test a different song.
  • Microphone appears but vocals do not change: Refresh Music and the iPhone’s playback state.

A locally synced file, imported track, or purchase from another source may not have the catalog information needed for Sing. Test the Apple Music catalog version rather than assuming every item in your library is eligible.

Eight fixes for Apple Music Sing

1. Confirm the iPhone model and update iOS

  1. Open Settings > General > About and check the model name.
  2. Open Settings > General > Software Update and install any available update.
  3. Restart the iPhone after the update, then test again.

Apple’s supported list is iPhone 11 or later, or iPhone SE (3rd generation). Updating iOS does not make an unsupported model compatible.

2. Test another Apple Music catalog song

  1. In Apple Music, play a different song from the catalog—not a local or imported file.
  2. Open the full player and tap Lyrics.
  3. Look for the microphone or Vocal Volume control.

If it appears on the second song, the first track is the likely limitation. Apple says Sing may be unavailable for a particular song; try another catalog track or a song featured in an Apple Music Sing playlist.

3. Check the connection, then try a download

  1. Open a website in Safari to confirm that the iPhone is online.
  2. Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data. If streaming over cellular, check Settings > Cellular and ensure Music can use cellular data.
  3. Temporarily disconnect a VPN, then test on another network if possible.
  4. Try downloading the song in Apple Music and playing it again.

Apple’s connection troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking System Status, software, date and time, and trying a different network. A download may help retrieve lyrics or catalog content, but cannot add Sing support to a track that lacks it.

4. Verify the subscription and Apple Account

  1. Open Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions and check whether Apple Music or Apple One is active.
  2. If access comes through Family Sharing, confirm that the subscription is active and the account remains in the family group.
  3. Check that Apple Music is using the expected Apple Account. If a renewal or account change just occurred, close and reopen Music.

Apple explains subscription access and Family Sharing. Verify the existing account before buying another subscription; an account change will not fix an unsupported phone or track. Apple’s 2022 Sing launch announcement excluded the Voice Plan, but current support documentation does not restate that plan-specific limit, so check current plan terms rather than assuming it applies universally.

5. Review Screen Time restrictions

  1. Open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > App Store, Media, Web, & Games.
  2. Review music and media restrictions, including whether explicit content is disallowed.
  3. If the phone is managed for a child, ask the parent or family organizer to review the settings.

Apple documents that content restrictions can make some media unavailable or dimmed in its iPhone guide. Adjust restrictions only as appropriate; changing them will not make an unsupported song Sing-compatible.

6. Force-quit and reopen Music

  1. Open the app switcher by swiping up from the bottom and pausing. On an iPhone with a Home button, double-click that button.
  2. Swipe Music away, wait a few seconds, and reopen it.
  3. Play the test song and open Lyrics again.

This can clear a temporary app-state problem, especially if the slider is frozen or lyrics stopped loading after a network change.

7. Restart the iPhone

Restarting can clear a temporary playback or audio-session glitch. After the restart, reconnect to Wi-Fi or cellular, open Music, and test both the same known-compatible song and a second track. If the problem began after an iOS update, a restart is a low-risk check—not evidence that the update caused a broader defect.

8. Sign out of Media & Purchases, then back in

  1. Open Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases and choose Sign Out.
  2. Restart the iPhone.
  3. Return to Media & Purchases, sign in, reopen Apple Music, and test again.

Use this only after the simpler checks. Signing out can affect downloaded media, purchase access, and account synchronization until you sign back in. Do not sign out of the entire iCloud account for this problem.

Using the iPhone as a microphone for Apple TV?

That is a separate feature from adjusting recorded vocals in the iPhone’s Apple Music lyrics view. Apple’s iOS 26 feature notes describe using an iPhone as a microphone with Apple TV. For that experience, Apple’s Apple TV guide says participating iPhones must be on the same Wi-Fi network; only the host needs an Apple Music subscription. The guide also says this microphone experience does not support wireless speakers such as HomePod. For ordinary Sing playback AirPlayed to HomePod, Apple says to activate Sing on the iPhone first.

Region and language

Apple Music availability varies by country or region. Lyrics translation and pronunciation also have their own region and language availability; those iOS 26 features should not be confused with the Sing vocal slider. See Apple’s feature availability list.

Incorrect or mistimed lyrics

If lyrics are present but wrong or out of sync, that is a content-quality issue, not necessarily a broken Sing control. While viewing time-synced lyrics, touch and hold a verse, select the relevant lines, scroll down, and tap Report a Concern, as described in Apple’s lyrics support instructions.

When to contact Apple Support

Contact Apple Support if Sing fails across multiple songs that support it, the iPhone and subscription qualify, and the issue persists after restart and account reauthentication. Before contacting support, check Apple’s System Status and connection guidance, and note whether Apple Music works on another device using the same account. Include the iPhone model, iOS version, affected song titles, and whether Lyrics or only the microphone control is missing.
