YouTube TV began a gradual rollout of Multiview to compatible Android phones and tablets on September 23, 2024. It is now documented as an Android-app feature, although the streams and controls available to you still depend on your device, account, subscriptions and the live schedule.
Multiview puts up to four eligible live programs in one layout. You can choose the panel that supplies audio and expand that panel to full screen, but it is not four independent players, Android split-screen, picture-in-picture, browser playback or an AirPlay feature.
What Multiview does on Android
Multiview is YouTube TV’s coordinated view of up to four live streams. It is useful when games, news programs or other live events overlap. YouTube TV originally launched the feature on televisions and streaming devices in March 2023, then brought it to iPhone and iPad before the Android rollout described on September 23, 2024. YouTube’s launch explanation says the system was designed for broad device coverage rather than requiring every device to decode four conventional, independent streams.
On a phone, four panels can be small, so Multiview is best for monitoring several events. For extended viewing, a television-sized display may be more comfortable.

How to start Multiview on an Android phone or tablet
You must begin with content that YouTube TV has marked as eligible for Multiview. The current Android instructions are:
- Open the YouTube TV app on your Android phone or tablet.
- Start watching eligible Multiview content.
- Tap the video to show the playback controls.
- Select Multiview.
- At the bottom of the screen, select a content category.
- Select the live program you want to add.
The available builder is not a promise that every channel can be combined with every other channel. It reflects current live programming, rights, your subscriptions and YouTube TV’s eligibility rules. The detailed controls are documented in YouTube TV’s Multiview help page.
Change the audio source
Tap the panel you want to hear. The active-audio icon appears on that view. Only one panel supplies audio at a time; Multiview does not provide four simultaneous audio feeds.

Make one panel full screen
- Select the panel that currently supplies audio.
- Tap the full-screen control at the bottom right.
- Tap the exit-full-screen control to return to the Multiview layout.
Which Android devices are supported?
YouTube TV’s general Android compatibility page says the app works on most Android L devices and newer, including phones and tablets. The practical test is whether Google Play lets you install the app; an unsupported device normally receives a compatibility warning. See the supported-devices guidance.

Keep these distinctions in mind:
- General YouTube TV compatibility does not guarantee every Multiview combination or the newest builder interface.
- Android phones and tablets are separate from Android TV televisions and streaming boxes, which use remote-based controls.
- An otherwise compatible device can still have an old app build, limited performance or an account-side availability delay.
- YouTube TV does not publish a complete list of Android phone and tablet models certified specifically for Multiview.
- Older hardware, particularly devices mostly from before 2018, may have fewer customization options or lower picture quality.
Larger screens and newer hardware can make four-way viewing easier to use, but no high-end-phone requirement has been published.

What content can appear in a Multiview?
The builder offers eligible live programming. YouTube TV says Multiview has expanded beyond a narrow sports-only selection, while some family-friendly programming remains excluded.
- Live programs: eligible events and channels shown by the builder can be added.
- Video on demand and DVR: do not treat these as generally eligible. YouTube TV’s custom-Multiview announcement describes the feature as live-content focused and excludes VOD and DVR material: official community announcement.
- Add-on channels: require the relevant YouTube TV subscription or add-on.
- NFL programming: NFL Sunday Ticket and NFL RedZone require the applicable subscriptions, and NFL-specific combination rules apply. RedZone cannot simply be inserted into every possible layout.
- Changing availability: the list can change with schedules, rights and YouTube TV’s current builder rules.
Android app, browser, AirPlay and Android TV are not interchangeable
Native Multiview is supported in the YouTube TV Android app. YouTube TV’s help documentation says it is not available through a computer web browser or AirPlay. Casting should not be assumed to reproduce the native Multiview experience.

What happened in the Android rollout?
The September 23, 2024 report described a progressive distribution to Android users, following the earlier television, streaming-device and Apple-mobile releases. Users were advised at the time to update the YouTube TV app to version 8.17. That number is a historical rollout detail, not a current minimum-version requirement. The report is archived at Android Headlines; its URL contains “/2024/04/”, but the page displays September 23, 2024 as its publication date.
In April 2026, YouTube TV also said broader custom Multiview controls were rolling out to most mobile and living-room devices, with a small subset of older devices excluded from the full experience. That later expansion gives users more control than the original preselected combinations, but it does not remove content or device restrictions.

Work through these checks in order:
- Update YouTube TV from Google Play. Version 8.17 was cited during the 2024 rollout; use the current version offered by Google Play now.
- Confirm that Google Play can install YouTube TV on the device and that you meet the app’s Android requirements.
- Check that you are signed into the YouTube TV account with the expected subscription.
- Start from a live event or page marked for Multiview, not an arbitrary recording or on-demand title.
- Verify that the desired channel or event does not require an add-on.
- Force-close and reopen YouTube TV.
- Restart the Android phone or tablet.
- Install available Android system updates.
- Try a different eligible live event or combination.
- If the option is still absent, treat the cause as potentially account-, device-, content- or rollout-related rather than assuming a reinstall will fix it.
If video quality is poor, check network conditions, app and Android updates, and device age. YouTube TV specifically notes reduced quality or customization on some older hardware. Mobile streaming can also use substantial cellular data and may count against your carrier’s allowance, although no universal bandwidth or battery figure is published.

Does Multiview cost extra?
Multiview is included as a YouTube TV feature, not sold as a separate Android purchase. You still need a paid YouTube TV plan, and any premium channel or sports package placed in the layout requires its own subscription.
YouTube’s February 9, 2026 plan announcement listed these regular monthly prices at publication:

These are dated reference prices, not a permanent quote. Promotions, eligibility and plan availability can change; check YouTube TV’s signup page before subscribing. The announcement is at YouTube’s official plans post. A full plan may be poor value if you only want occasional sports, and Multiview does not change that underlying subscription cost.
Bottom line for Android users
Android support is no longer merely forthcoming: YouTube TV documents Multiview in its Android app. Use an eligible live program to open the builder, select available streams, switch the single active-audio panel when needed and expand that panel for full-screen viewing. If the control is missing, check app, device, account, subscription and content eligibility before treating it as a fault.
