For Friday, April 12, 2024, the Connections grid groups its 16 words into four themes: orderly descriptions, augmentative prefixes, ways to become larger, and items used in classic children’s games. If you want a nudge before seeing the solutions, start with the hints below.

Hints for Connections on April 12, 2024

Try these from least to most revealing:

  1. Organized
  2. Very
  3. To grow
  4. What children might play with

Connections asks players to sort 16 terms into four groups of four based on a shared theme. Some words can plausibly fit more than one idea, so consider the full set before locking in a group. A study of lateral-thinking puzzles describes this kind of challenge in language models, but the same ambiguity is familiar to human solvers: Missed Connections: Lateral Thinking Puzzles for Large Language Models.
