Four notable arrivals defined Canadian streaming from Dec. 30, 2024, through Jan. 5, 2025: RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 on Crave, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl and Woman of the Hour on Netflix Canada, and The Rig Season 2 on Prime Video Canada. This is a historical roundup of the Canadian catalog during that week; libraries, plans and release schedules may have changed since then.

The dates and Canadian service listings reflect the contemporary roundup published by MobileSyrup on Jan. 4, 2025. “Streaming in Canada” means the Canadian edition of each platform, not the U.S. catalog.
Crave: RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17
The new season premiered on Crave on Jan. 3 at 9:30 p.m. ET, with subsequent episodes scheduled for Fridays rather than arriving as a complete-season drop. The reality competition was listed at 16 episodes, with a $200,000 prize.
The season’s guest-judge lineup mentioned in the weekly roundup included Katy Perry, Hunter Schafer, Quinta Brunson and Whitney Cummings. It is the clearest choice for viewers who want an ongoing, communal weekly watch instead of a one-night film.

Netflix Canada
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
Arriving Jan. 3, this approximately 1-hour-19-minute stop-motion comedy reunites Wallace and Gromit in a story involving Feathers McGraw’s revenge after Wallace reprograms a robotic garden gnome. Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham directed.
It is the week’s easiest short-form pick: a self-contained feature suited to family viewing or anyone wanting animation without committing to a series. Netflix released the film in Canada, but that wording does not by itself establish that it was produced as a Netflix original.

Woman of the Hour
Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut arrived on Netflix Canada on Dec. 31 and runs approximately 1 hour 34 minutes. The crime thriller is based on serial killer Rodney Alcala’s appearance on The Dating Game in 1978.

Choose it for a darker, fact-based drama that fits in one evening. As with the other Netflix selection, the January 2025 listing described Canadian Netflix availability; it should not be read as a statement about the film’s catalog status in 2026.
Netflix’s plan-selection page is netflix.com/signup/planform. A Netflix subscription was the relevant access route during the covered week, although plan names, prices and catalog rights can change.

Prime Video Canada: The Rig Season 2
Prime Video released the second season of The Rig on Jan. 2. The supernatural thriller consists of six episodes, listed at approximately 48 to 59 minutes each.
Survivors from the Kinloch Bravo are moved to a new offshore facility, where corporate conflict, conspiracies and threats from the ocean expand the show’s mystery. The cast includes Iain Glen, Martin Compston, Mark Bonnar and Montreal actor Emily Hampshire, providing a specific Canadian connection without making the series a Canadian production.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

It was identified as a Prime Video Canada original release in the contemporary listing. Canadian access depended on the applicable Prime Video or Prime membership arrangement at the time; check primevideo.com for current terms.

Apple TV+ free weekend
The roundup noted an Apple TV+ free-access weekend on Jan. 4–5, 2025. It was a temporary promotion, not an ongoing subscription benefit, and the column did not identify a major new Apple TV+ premiere for those dates.
Upcoming, not released that week
Severance Season 2 and Mythic Quest Season 4 were mentioned as forthcoming Apple TV+ titles. They should not be counted among the Dec. 30–Jan. 5 arrivals.
What to watch first
- For reality competition: Start RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 if you want a weekly Friday appointment and a 16-episode season.
- For a family or animation night: Pick Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, the shortest commitment among the highlighted releases.
- For true-crime drama: Choose Woman of the Hour for a fact-based thriller centered on the 1978 television appearance.
- For a serialized genre binge: Choose The Rig Season 2 if six episodes of supernatural offshore suspense appeal.
- For the lowest extra cost: Begin with whichever title belongs to a service you already pay for. The historical roundup does not establish a current rental alternative or today’s subscription pricing.
Subscription and availability notes
The four highlighted titles were presented as included streaming selections on Crave, Netflix Canada and Prime Video Canada during the specified week, rather than as separate premium rentals. Service add-ons, advertising tiers, eligibility and prices can change, so a present-day viewer should confirm the title’s Canadian listing before subscribing or cancelling anything.

In particular, do not carry the January 2025 prices or Crave discount into a current buying decision. The contemporary article reported those figures for its publication period, while the official pages now provide the authoritative route for checking plans: Crave, Netflix and Prime Video.
The Bottom Line
For that Canadian week, Netflix offered the strongest pair of one-night films, Crave supplied the weekly reality event, and Prime Video delivered the most substantial genre binge. Treat every date and catalog reference as historical to Dec. 30, 2024–Jan. 5, 2025.
