What happened to NCIS: Hawai‘i?
CBS cancelled NCIS: Hawai‘i after its third season. The show premiered in 2021 with Vanessa Lachey leading the cast as Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant. Its third-season finale aired on May 6, 2024, and there was no fourth-season renewal.

The decision made NCIS: Hawai‘i the first NCIS series to end after only three seasons. It was also notable as the franchise’s first series led by a woman, with Lachey carrying the central role as Tennant.

Her first reaction
After the cancellation became public on April 26–27, 2024, Lachey described herself as “gutted, confused (and) blindsided.” The wording conveyed that the cast had not expected the show to end when it did.

Her follow-up message
In a longer response shared on May 1, Lachey said, “I wish we had a proper goodbye.” Her comment reflected the fact that the production ended without the kind of planned farewell episode or final season that might have resolved the characters’ stories more deliberately.
Why did CBS cancel it?
CBS has not published a single ratings cutoff or production-cost figure as the definitive reason. Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach described cancellations as “extremely tough calls to make” and said the network weighs schedule freshness, projections and where it sees opportunities for larger future success.

That explanation places the decision within broader network scheduling pressures, including a crowded NCIS franchise and planning for the 2024–25 season. Petitions demonstrate organized support, but no authoritative, current signature total has been established here. Numbers can change as campaigns open, close or move between platforms, so any figure should be checked against the live petition page before being treated as verified.
Will NCIS: Hawai‘i return for season 4?
There is no announced fourth season. The completed third-season finale and CBS’s cancellation mean a return would require another company or platform to revive the series, something that has not been confirmed. Fan activity can raise visibility, but it does not constitute a renewal order.

Because the cancellation occurred in 2024, social posts or petitions promising an imminent comeback should be treated as campaign messages rather than evidence of a deal unless CBS, Paramount or the producers make a formal announcement.
