Short answer: Demon Slayer’s next chapter is a theatrical Infinity Castle film finale, not a conventional fifth TV season. The first movie premiered in Japan on July 18, 2025; the other two films have no announced release dates in the latest cited update, and the second was still in production in May 2026.
Why the comeback is not “season 5”
Crunchyroll announced Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle as a three-film theatrical adaptation of the manga’s final arc. That format changes both the release cadence and the viewing experience: instead of weekly television episodes, the conclusion is being delivered as successive cinema releases.
The announcement timeline
| Date | What was confirmed |
|---|---|
| June 30, 2024 | Crunchyroll announced the three-film trilogy and a global theatrical partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Japan and select Asian territories were excluded from that arrangement. |
| December 8, 2024 | Crunchyroll confirmed that the first film would premiere in 2025. |
| March 1, 2025 | Aniplex announced the Japanese opening date, July 18, 2025, with IMAX screenings from opening day. |
So “Demon Slayer season 5” is an understandable shorthand for the next anime installment, but it is not the announced format.
Infinity Castle release dates and current status
Japan’s first-film date
Aniplex scheduled the first Infinity Castle movie for July 18, 2025, in Japan. The Japanese launch was planned for 443 theaters: 390 standard screens and 53 IMAX screens. IMAX was available from the opening day.

- Tanjiro Kamado, joined with Inosuke Hashibira, a boy raised by boars who wears a boar's head, and Zenitsu Agatsuma, a scared boy who reveals his true power when he sleeps, board the Infinity Train on a new mission with the Fire Pillar, Kyojuro Rengoku, to defeat a demon who has been tormenting the people and killing the demon slayers who oppose it!
International releases are staggered
The overseas rollout took place theatrically in stages rather than on one worldwide date. The Crunchyroll–Sony arrangement covered global theatrical distribution outside Japan and select Asian territories, so the correct date depends on the country. A single international premiere date should not be assumed.
Films two and three
The latest cited status comes from a May 2026 GamesRadar interview with Crunchyroll CEO and president Rahul Purini. He said:

“What we can say – and what we have said – is that this is a trilogy of movies that will be the final arc for Demon Slayer. Infinity Castle was the first one. There’s two more to go.”
“We can tell you that it is actively in production. The studio wants to bring it to fans as quickly as possible. We just don’t have a date yet.”

How many Infinity Castle movies are planned?
There are three movies in the planned Infinity Castle trilogy. Together, they adapt the manga’s final story arc and serve as the anime’s film finale. The first movie is therefore the opening installment of the conclusion, not a standalone side story or a replacement for a new weekly season.

Will Infinity Castle be on Crunchyroll?
Crunchyroll is the franchise’s named theatrical partner with Sony Pictures Entertainment for the territories covered by that agreement. That confirms the cinema distribution relationship, but the cited announcements do not provide a streaming date for the first film or confirm when the remaining movies will appear on Crunchyroll.
Japan and select Asian territories were outside the announced global theatrical arrangement, so viewers should check the local distributor and the current Crunchyroll catalog for their territory rather than applying the North American or European rollout to every country.

What the first film’s opening shows
The first movie became a major theatrical event. The Associated Press, citing Comscore, reported an estimated $70 million opening in North America and a $132.1 million global opening weekend across 49 international markets in 2025. AP identified it as the first entry in the three-film trilogy.
Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for Comscore, told AP: “This performance by this particular film shows the unpredictability of the box office.” Those figures describe the opening period reported in 2025; they are not a forecast for the second or third film.
Quick Recap
Which viewing path makes sense?
| Path | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Theater or IMAX | Viewers who want the large-screen presentation and the earliest legal access during each local theatrical window. | Availability and dates vary by territory, and the first window requires going to a cinema. |
| Later home or streaming release | Viewers who prefer convenience or cannot attend the theatrical run. | No streaming date is confirmed in the cited record, so the wait length is unknown. |
| Manga source | Readers who want the complete final arc without waiting for the remaining films. | This is a reading experience rather than the animated, theatrical presentation. |
| Anime-only route | Fans who want to experience the conclusion entirely through animation. | You must wait for each film’s territory-specific release and any later home or streaming window. |
What to do now
- Finish the previously released Demon Slayer anime material if you need a refresher before the final arc.
- Check your country’s theater listings for the first film instead of relying on Japan’s July 18, 2025 date.
- Follow official Crunchyroll, Aniplex or local distributor announcements for films two and three; neither sequel has a confirmed date in the latest cited update.
- If you choose to read ahead, use the manga’s final arc as the source material that the trilogy is adapting.
