YouTube TV’s plan to let viewers build Multiviews beyond sports has moved from a limited 2025 test to a broader rollout of custom layouts that began in April 2026. Subscribers can combine up to four eligible live streams, including news and entertainment—but not on-demand shows, DVR recordings, or arbitrary YouTube videos. The feature is also unavailable in web browsers and through AirPlay, and the channels offered depend on the subscriber’s plan, location, and device.
From a limited test to a custom builder
The original news was a small experiment, not an “any channel” launch. On May 16, 2025, YouTube TV said it was testing custom Multiview combinations using a limited selection of nationally available channels beyond the service’s traditional sports focus. ESPN, Bravo, and USA were examples, and the available selection could change during the test. YouTube TV also said it hoped to expand the feature, potentially to local channels. YouTube TV’s 2025 announcement describes that early scope.
The more consequential update came on April 28, 2026, when YouTube TV announced a rollout of a builder that lets members choose eligible live content themselves instead of relying only on preassembled combinations. The builder groups options under categories such as Recommended, Sports, News, Shows, Movies, and Other live content. YouTube TV also said members could combine content from different packages they subscribe to, giving NFL Sunday Ticket as one example. The rollout was staged, so the builder’s availability could vary by account or device while it was being introduced. See the 2026 rollout announcement.

YouTube TV’s wording is effectively “eligible live content available in the builder,” not every channel, program, or streaming service in every circumstance.

How to build a Multiview
On a supported smart TV or streaming device, start eligible Multiview content, press Down on the remote, choose Multiview, then use the builder at the bottom of the screen to select from the available live options. You can have up to four channels on screen at once. The pane you select supplies the audio; select another pane to switch what you hear.
On mobile, use the on-screen controls rather than the remote-button sequence. For current platform-specific instructions and caveats, consult YouTube TV’s Multiview help page or its Android instructions.

What can—and cannot—go in a custom view?

For example, a viewer may be able to monitor a live news channel, a live game, and a live entertainment channel together. That does not mean they can put a live basketball game beside an on-demand drama episode or a DVR recording. The feature is for live programming, not for combining libraries from different streaming apps.

Availability also depends on entitlement. A channel included only through an add-on does not become available just because it appears in YouTube TV’s broader lineup; the subscriber needs the relevant package. NFL Sunday Ticket content likewise requires the appropriate subscription, and YouTube TV documents special rules for Sunday Ticket and RedZone combinations. Local channels depend on the subscriber’s market, and YouTube TV does not promise that every local station will appear in every Multiview.

Devices and rollout caveats
Multiview is intended for supported living-room devices and mobile use. YouTube TV says it is not available in a web browser or through AirPlay, so someone following the TV-app steps on a laptop—or casting with AirPlay—may not see the option. Some older devices may offer fewer customization choices or lower picture quality; YouTube TV said a small subset of older devices would not support the full experience. Hardware support can change, so check the current help page for the device you use rather than treating any age cutoff or rollout estimate as permanent.
Nor does the official feature description establish that custom layouts can be saved as named favorites or automatically restored. The documented process explains how to build a view, but does not promise a persistent layout library. If you want the same news, weather, and sports arrangement every day, be prepared to recreate it unless your app explicitly offers a save option.

When Multiview is useful—and when it is not
Custom Multiview is most useful when several live channels matter at the same time: following breaking news alongside weather coverage, keeping an eye on a game while watching another live program, or letting people in a household monitor different live events without repeatedly changing channels. It is a monitoring tool, not a way to fully consume four programs at once. Only one pane’s audio is active, and four-way layouts shrink each picture—especially noticeable on a smaller screen or with dialogue-heavy programming.

It is also a feature whose value depends on what you already pay for. Multiview does not unlock channels, local stations, or sports packages that are absent from your subscription. Check YouTube TV’s current plan and lineup information before subscribing for a particular channel combination. Sports-specific viewers can review the separate Sports Plan and NFL Sunday Ticket details, but neither should be assumed to make every channel freely mixable. Prices, offers, and lineups change; verify current terms directly.

For viewers whose main priority is an on-demand catalog bundled with live TV, Hulu + Live TV may fit that broader entertainment need; Hulu advertises a live-channel bundle with Disney+ and ESPN at its official site. The available information does not establish that Hulu offers an equivalent user-built four-channel Multiview, so it is not a direct Multiview substitute.
If Multiview or a channel is missing
- The Multiview option is absent: Confirm you are using the YouTube TV app on a supported TV or streaming device, not a browser or AirPlay. Start with live eligible content or a Multiview recommendation, and check whether the feature has reached your account and device.
- A channel is not in the builder: It may not be live at that moment, may not be eligible for Multiview, may require an add-on you do not have, or may be unavailable on your device or in your market. VOD and DVR items are not eligible.
- Picture quality is poor: Older hardware, device limitations, or network congestion may contribute. YouTube TV notes reduced quality on some older devices; the sources do not establish one universal bandwidth threshold for Multiview.
- You hear the wrong program: Select the pane whose audio you want. Multiview normally plays one selected audio source, not all panes at once.
If the option still does not appear, update the YouTube TV app and device software, restart the app or device, verify your channel access, and check YouTube TV’s current support guidance. A rollout or device limitation can look like a missing setting even when the account otherwise works normally.
