Seattle startup Soundry AI announced a text-to-sample generator in March 2024—not primarily a system for producing finished songs. Its goal was to help producers create drums, bass lines, loops, one-shots, textures, and other building blocks from natural-language descriptions, then arrange and mix them in a digital audio workstation.
That original product story remains useful, but it should not be confused with Soundry’s current presentation. In 2026, the company’s websites emphasize Sample Planet and Groove, and do not establish that the original branding, pricing, or feature set remains unchanged.
What Soundry AI created
Soundry’s original product was a text-to-sample system for musicians and sound designers. A user could describe a desired production element—such as a dark bass loop, a syncopated percussion fill, an 808 kick, or a metallic atmospheric texture—and generate audio intended to become part of a larger track.
The important distinction is between text-to-sample and text-to-song. Soundry positioned its tool as an aid for producers who still make the creative decisions: selecting useful generations, editing them, arranging a composition, processing the audio, and mixing and mastering the final work.

The 2024 coverage described possible uses including:
- Drum sounds and beats
- Bass lines and bass textures
- Loops and one-shots
- Genre-oriented sample collections
- Foley and sound-effect material for games and media
GeekWire’s March 2024 report described Soundry as a Seattle-based generative-audio startup, while Y Combinator lists it as a Winter 2024 company.
How text-to-sample generation fits a producer’s workflow
- Describe the musical element. A producer might specify an instrument or sound source, mood, texture, genre, musical role, tempo, or rhythmic character.
- Generate variations. The system produces a sample or a set of alternatives.
- Evaluate and edit. The user checks whether the result fits the track’s key, tempo, arrangement, and sonic character.
- Move it into a DAW. The sample can become one layer in a larger production.
- Arrange and finish the music. Human decisions remain necessary for structure, transitions, effects, mixing, and mastering.
Prompt examples might include “warm analog pad,” “gritty neuro bass loop,” “rolling techno percussion at 140 BPM,” or “short metallic impact for a game transition.” These are useful descriptions of the desired result, not a confirmed formal command language. The 2024 sources do not document a complete official prompt syntax.
The founders were shown working in Ableton in the original coverage. That demonstrates the product’s intended DAW-centered workflow at the time, but it does not by itself confirm that every current version supports Ableton or that the 2024 integration remains unchanged.
What were Infinite Sample Packs?
Soundry also promoted Infinite Sample Packs: generated collections organized around styles or genres rather than fixed libraries of prerecorded files. Reported examples included “Hip-Hop Crate” and “Tokyo Dubstep Drums.”

The appeal was variation. Instead of repeatedly searching through the same static collection, a producer could explore fresh material built around a chosen aesthetic. But “infinite” should be understood as a description of generation or variation potential—not a promise that every result will be useful, legally unique, downloadable without limits, or ready for a commercial release.
AI-generated audio can still have awkward timing, poor loop seams, excessive processing, unwanted reverb, weak transients, or a mismatch between the prompt and the actual musical role. It can also be interesting but unusable once placed in a full mix.
Who founded Soundry AI?
The founders identified in the 2024 reporting were:
- Mark Buckler, chief executive officer
- Justin Parus, chief technology officer
- Diandre Ruiz, chief product officer and a musician associated with the EDM project Bandlez
GeekWire reported that Buckler had spent about three and a half years at Amazon, including work related to the Scout autonomous delivery robot, and that Parus had worked for about five and a half years as a Microsoft software engineer. Those are historical employment details from the 2024 article, not statements about their current roles.
The company’s founding team combined AI research, large-scale software engineering, and professional music-production experience. That combination shaped Soundry’s emphasis on practical production components rather than an automated replacement for the entire songwriting process.

Why Soundry targeted producers
Soundry’s reported argument was that conventional sample libraries can make producers spend large amounts of time searching for a sound. Producers may also want material that feels less familiar than heavily circulated samples.

This can be useful for a producer who needs a transitional effect, a bass variation, a rhythmic fill, or an unusual layer without browsing thousands of files.
It does not remove the need for production knowledge. Users still benefit from understanding tempo, key, arrangement, audio editing, sampling, equalization, compression, transient shaping, and copyright licensing. Soundry’s reported target audience included audio prosumers, serious hobbyists, professional musicians, Foley artists, and independent game developers—not only beginners looking for an instant song.
Soundry compared with Suno, Splice, and Output

This is a workflow comparison, not a ranking of audio quality. The cited 2024 coverage identified Suno, Splice, and Output as relevant competitors, but the available evidence does not establish that Soundry produces better or more controllable audio than any of them.
Soundry also is not a substitute for a DAW. Ableton Live, for example, is a full music-production environment; Soundry’s original concept was to supply material that could be used inside such an environment.

Training data, copyright, and commercial use
Soundry said it worked with artists and licensed songs or samples for model training. That was an important part of the company’s ethical and commercial positioning, but it should be treated as a company claim rather than an independently audited finding.
Several terms that are often used interchangeably are not equivalent:
- Royalty-free usually describes how royalties are paid under a license; it does not necessarily mean unrestricted use.
- Commercially usable depends on the provider’s actual terms, plan, and permitted uses.
- Licensed training data concerns how a model was trained; it does not automatically guarantee that every output is free from legal dispute.
- Copyright-free is an imprecise phrase and should not be treated as a complete rights analysis.
Before releasing a commercial track, game, film, or advertisement, users should check the current license for the specific plan. Important questions include whether free-tier generations can be monetized, whether downloads remain licensed after cancellation, whether attribution is required, and whether the provider offers any indemnity. A provider’s training-data policy and a user’s rights to a particular output are related but separate issues.

The original March 2024 story described a text-to-sample product and reported a subscription price of $10 per month for access to sample packs. That figure is historical and should not be presented as current pricing.

Its product-oriented site describes Sample Planet as a way to create unique, mixdown-ready samples and describes Groove as a tool for remixing songs into different styles. Those are current first-party claims, but they do not prove that the present products are identical to the 2024 text-to-sample generator. Readers should verify the current product name, host compatibility, operating-system requirements, processor support, export behavior, account requirements, and plan limits before subscribing. Older tutorials may refer to Soundry, The Forge, or Infinite Sample Packs, while the current site may use different names.
Who should use a tool like this?
Soundry’s original concept is potentially useful if you:
- Want fast starting material rather than a finished song
- Work in a DAW and understand basic audio production
- Need unusual drums, basses, textures, loops, or effects
- Want to iterate on a sound instead of searching a fixed library
- Are prepared to edit, arrange, mix, and possibly replace generated material
It is probably the wrong category of tool if you want lyrics, vocals, a complete arrangement, or a mastered song with little further work. It is also a poor fit if you need guaranteed offline access, permanent ownership, or clearly documented commercial rights that the current service does not provide.

- What are the current plan names and prices?
- Can free-tier outputs be used commercially?
- Are exports limited, watermarked, or subject to download caps?
- Do downloaded files remain licensed after cancellation?
- Does the current product run as a VST3 plug-in, a standalone app, or both?
- Which Windows and macOS versions and processor architectures are supported?
- Does generation require an internet connection?
- Can users regenerate from an existing sample or retrieve old projects?
- Are tempo, key, duration, and metadata preserved reliably?
- What does the current license say about commercial releases and legal claims?
These questions matter because a generative-audio service is both a creative tool and a subscription service. Its usefulness depends not only on the sound it generates, but also on whether the output fits the mix, the plug-in works in the user’s setup, and the license matches the intended release.
