Apple introduced the main changes with iOS 26 on September 15, 2025, then added offline lyrics and other improvements in iOS 26.2, followed by Playlist Playground beta and Concerts in iOS 26.4. Apple’s release index lists iOS 26.5 or iOS 26.5.1 as the latest branch for supported iPhone families as of August 13, 2026.
The result is a Music app that is more immersive, more useful for multilingual listening, better suited to uninterrupted playback, and increasingly connected to music discovery outside the app. Availability still depends on the iPhone model, software version, Apple Music subscription, country or region, account, language, and the individual song or album.

Liquid Glass changes how you move around Apple Music
Apple Music adopts the Liquid Glass design language introduced across iOS 26. The most noticeable change is the navigation system: the tab bar can shrink as you scroll, leaving more room for album covers, playlists, and other content. Scroll upward or tap the tab-bar control and it expands again.
Search is also positioned closer to the bottom of the iPhone display in Apple Music and other redesigned apps. That makes it easier to reach one-handed, particularly on larger iPhones. These changes improve the app’s presentation and interaction model; they do not represent a new Apple Music catalog or a documented overhaul of Apple’s recommendation algorithm.
Supported albums can have animated artwork
In the playback view, some albums display full-screen animated artwork designed by the artist. It is a more immersive alternative to a static cover, but it is not universal. Apple qualifies the feature by supported albums, so an album without compatible artwork will continue to show its ordinary presentation.
Lyrics Translation and Lyrics Pronunciation are different tools
iOS 26 adds two related features to the Now Playing lyrics view:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Lyrics Translation is intended to help listeners understand what a song means in another language.
- Lyrics Pronunciation is intended to help listeners sing along phonetically, even when they cannot read or speak the original language.
Neither feature translates every lyric in real time. Both depend on supported songs, available lyrics, supported languages, device and software requirements, and regional availability. Apple Music for Artists also explains that artists can submit original lyrics, which helps show why the feature can vary from one song to another even within the same catalog.
Apple’s June 2026 expansion listed additional translation pairings, including English to French, German, Italian, Korean, and Spanish, as well as French to English and Japanese to English. Pronunciation support was also expanded for combinations including Arabic to Romanized Arabic, English to Hangul, English to Katakana, Japanese to Hangul, and simplified Mandarin Chinese to Katakana. The exact language options shown to you may differ by song, region, account, and software build.
AutoMix makes ordinary playlists flow more smoothly
AutoMix transitions between songs in the Apple Music catalog by combining beat matching with time stretching. Instead of applying the same fixed fade to every track, it attempts to align the rhythm and timing of consecutive songs for a more continuous, DJ-like listening experience.

- REBUILT FOR COMFORT — AirPods 4 have been redesigned for exceptional all-day comfort and greater stability. With a refined contour, shorter stem, and quick-press controls for music or calls.
- ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation help reduce outside noise before it reaches your ears, so you can immerse yourself in what you’re listening to.*
- HEAR THE WORLD AROUND YOU — The powerful H2 chip comes to AirPods 4. Adaptive Audio seamlessly blends ANC and Transparency mode — which lets you comfortably hear and interact with the world around you exactly as it sounds — to provide the best listening experience in any environment.* And when you’re speaking with someone nearby, Conversation Awareness automatically lowers the volume of what’s playing.*
- IMPROVED SOUND AND CALL QUALITY — Voice Isolation improves the quality of calls in loud conditions. Using advanced computational audio, it reduces background noise while isolating and clarifying the sound of your voice for whomever you’re speaking to.*
- MAGICAL EXPERIENCE — Just say “Siri” or “Hey Siri” to play a song, make a call, or check your schedule.* And with Siri Interactions, now you can respond to Siri by simply nodding your head yes or shaking your head no.* Pair AirPods 4 by simply placing them near your device and tapping Connect on your screen.* Easily share a song or show between two sets of AirPods.* An optical in-ear sensor knows to play audio only when you’re wearing AirPods and pauses when you take them off. And you can track down your AirPods and Charging Case with the Find My app.*
That makes AutoMix most useful for long playlists, workouts, parties, and background listening where a hard stop between tracks is distracting. It is an automated listening feature, not a professional DJ workstation: Apple’s documented experience does not promise manual control over every transition parameter.
Apple later described improvements intended to make transitions more immersive and expanded AutoMix to Apple Music on tvOS and HomePod. Those additions are useful ecosystem context, although the core feature on this page is the iPhone experience.
Music Pins make the library less tedious to navigate
Music Pins let you elevate frequently used music to the top of your library. Pinning is useful for an album you play repeatedly, a favorite playlist, or another piece of library content you want to reach quickly.
A pin is primarily an organization and access feature. It should not be confused with favoriting a song, and it is not documented as a replacement for playlists or a new recommendation system. Its value is simple: fewer taps between opening Apple Music and starting the music you use most.
Enhanced Replay Insights show listening history throughout the year
Enhanced Replay Insights expand Apple Music’s listening-history view with month-by-month information as well as year-end statistics. That gives you more opportunities to see how your listening changes over the course of a year instead of waiting for a single annual recap.

What iOS 26.2 added
Apple released iOS 26.2 on December 12, 2025. Its Apple Music changes are less flashy than Liquid Glass or AutoMix, but they address everyday use cases.

- Active Noise Cancellation blocks outside noise, so you can immerse yourself in music
- Transparency mode for hearing and interacting with the world around you
- Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking places sound all around you
- Adaptive EQ automatically tunes music to your ears
- Three sizes of soft, tapered silicone tips for a customizable fit
Favorite Songs appears in Home tab Top Picks
The Favorite Songs playlist can appear in Top Picks on the Home tab. This gives listeners a more prominent shortcut to songs they have marked as favorites, rather than making them open the library and search for the playlist.
Downloaded songs can show lyrics offline
Lyrics can now remain available while you are offline for downloaded songs. This is useful on flights, during commutes through areas with poor reception, or whenever you have deliberately restricted mobile data use.
The requirement matters: the song must be downloaded, and this does not provide offline lyrics for the entire Apple Music catalog. It also does not mean that every song with online lyrics will necessarily have an offline version available.
A pre-release album playback fix
iOS 26.2 also addressed a problem in which pre-release albums were not immediately playable in a listener’s Apple Music library when their official release time arrived. This is a reliability fix rather than a new listening mode, but it matters to people who add albums before release day and expect them to become playable automatically.
What iOS 26.4 added
iOS 26.4, released March 24, 2026, broadened Apple Music beyond playback and library management.
Playlist Playground beta turns descriptions into playlists
Playlist Playground can generate a playlist from a natural-language description. The result includes a title, description, and tracklist. Instead of choosing every song manually, you can describe the listening situation you have in mind:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- “Late-night jazz for reading”
- “Upbeat songs for a 30-minute run”
- “Rainy-day indie with no explicit lyrics”
Playlist Playground is explicitly a beta feature. Its availability may be limited by account, region, device, or software build, and there is no guarantee that every generated playlist will interpret a mood, genre, duration, or content restriction exactly as intended. Treat the output as a starting point that may need editing, not as a promise of perfect recommendations.

Concerts connects listening habits with nearby shows
The new Concerts area helps you find nearby shows from artists in your library and recommends additional artists based on your listening behavior. It is Apple Music’s clearest move in this release cycle toward live-music discovery.
“Nearby” depends on local event coverage and geography. The number of venues and artists shown can vary substantially by country or region. Concerts should also not be described as a ticket marketplace unless the current interface explicitly provides a particular ticket transaction; the documented feature is about discovering events and artists.
Apple Music Sing now works with an iPhone microphone and Apple TV 4K
Apple’s iOS 26 support documentation describes an ecosystem update for Apple Music Sing. With an Apple TV 4K (third generation), a compatible iPhone can act as a microphone and amplify the user’s voice through the television setup. The iPhone can also pair with the Apple TV 4K for the visual effects and sing-along experience.
This is not an iPhone-only catalog feature: it requires the specified Apple TV hardware and a supported Apple Music Sing setup. There is also an audio trade-off. Apple notes that enabling Apple Music Sing while listening to Dolby Atmos turns Dolby Atmos off for that song. Karaoke and immersive audio therefore are not active simultaneously in that situation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Compatibility, subscription, and regional limitations
“Available with iOS 26” does not mean “available to every iPhone and every song.” Apple Music features can be limited by:
- iPhone model and software: Some features require a supported device running a particular iOS 26 release.
- Subscription and account: Apple Music service features can depend on the user’s subscription and account eligibility.
- Country or region: Apple Music services, lyrics, event coverage, lossless audio, Dolby Atmos, and other functions are not identical everywhere.
- Song and album support: Lyrics tools and animated artwork require compatible catalog material.
- Language pairings: Translation and pronunciation choices are limited to Apple’s supported combinations.
- Network and downloads: Offline lyrics are tied to downloaded songs.
- Beta status: Playlist Playground may change, be restricted, or behave differently as Apple develops it.
- Playback hardware: Dolby Atmos, Spatial Audio, Apple Music Sing, and related experiences depend on compatible headphones, speakers, Apple TV hardware, or settings.
If a feature is missing, first update the iPhone to the latest available iOS 26 build for that device, confirm the Apple Music subscription and account, check whether the song is supported, and verify local availability. For Concerts and Playlist Playground in particular, a missing option may reflect staged availability rather than a fault with the phone.
Do you need AirPods Pro to use the new Apple Music features?
No. Lyrics Translation, Lyrics Pronunciation, AutoMix, Music Pins, Replay Insights, Playlist Playground, Concerts, Favorite Songs, and offline lyrics do not require AirPods Pro.

They can nevertheless be a sensible optional accessory for listeners who want compatible noise cancellation, Spatial Audio, and Dolby Atmos playback. AirPods Pro for Apple Music are best understood as a convenience and immersive-audio upgrade, not as a requirement for iOS 26’s software features.
There is an important limitation for audio-quality comparisons: ordinary Bluetooth connections do not support lossless audio. AirPods Pro can be appropriate for Dolby Atmos, Spatial Audio, noise cancellation, and wireless convenience, but do not describe standard Bluetooth playback as lossless Apple Music listening.
Which changes matter most?
| Listener | Most useful changes |
|---|---|
| Casual listener | Liquid Glass navigation, Music Pins, Favorite Songs in Top Picks, and animated artwork. |
| Commuter or traveler | Downloaded songs with offline lyrics and AutoMix for uninterrupted playback. |
| Multilingual listener | Lyrics Translation and Lyrics Pronunciation, where the song and language pairing are supported. |
| Playlist builder | AutoMix and Playlist Playground beta, with the latter treated as an editable starting point. |
| Concert-goer | Concerts, subject to local event coverage and available artist data. |
| Karaoke user | Apple Music Sing with a compatible Apple TV 4K, remembering that Sing disables Dolby Atmos for the song. |
| Immersive-audio listener | Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio with compatible hardware; AirPods Pro are optional, and Bluetooth is not lossless. |
The iOS 26 generation turns Apple Music into a broader experience: Liquid Glass improves the shell, lyrics tools make international music easier to understand and perform, AutoMix smooths playback, and Music Pins and Replay make the library more useful. iOS 26.2 adds practical offline and release-day improvements, while iOS 26.4 introduces natural-language playlist creation and live-event discovery. The strongest features are also the ones most dependent on supported songs, languages, regions, devices, and accounts—so the careful version of the story is more useful than claiming that every listener gets every feature.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need AirPods Pro for Apple Music’s iOS 26 features?
No. The new software features work without AirPods Pro. AirPods Pro are an optional accessory for noise cancellation, Spatial Audio, and Dolby Atmos. Standard Bluetooth playback is not lossless.
What does AutoMix do in Apple Music?
AutoMix automatically combines beat matching and time stretching to create smoother, DJ-like transitions between songs. It is designed for continuous listening, not as a professional DJ system with manual control over every transition.
Is Playlist Playground available to everyone?
Playlist Playground is a beta feature in iOS 26.4 that generates a playlist title, description, and tracklist from a natural-language prompt. Availability and results can vary, so review and edit the generated playlist.
Can Apple Music show lyrics without an internet connection?
Offline lyrics are available for downloaded songs, but they do not provide offline lyrics for the entire Apple Music catalog. Song support and account or regional limitations may still apply.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Apple Music’s iOS 26 update is a multi-release upgrade rather than a single redesign. AutoMix, offline lyrics, Music Pins, and Favorite Songs are the most immediately practical additions; Lyrics Translation and Pronunciation expand accessibility; Playlist Playground beta and Concerts point toward a more personalized, discovery-focused service. Check support and regional availability before assuming a feature will appear, and treat AirPods Pro as an optional immersive-audio accessory—not a requirement or a lossless Bluetooth solution.
