When and where did Reba sing the national anthem?
McEntire performed on the field at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11, 2024. The song was part of the Super Bowl LVIII pregame show, in the program leading into the scheduled 6:30 p.m. Eastern kickoff.
That distinction matters. “During the Super Bowl” is common shorthand, but McEntire did not sing at halftime or during a break in the game. She performed before the football began. CBS Sports’ pregame schedule placed the anthem in the kickoff presentation. Usher, not McEntire, headlined the halftime show.
What did Reba McEntire sing?
McEntire performed the complete U.S. national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” It was not “America the Beautiful” or “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” two other songs included in the pregame program. The Recording Academy’s account and the NFL’s official lineup announcement identify the song.

What happened during the performance?
McEntire sang from the field with the Joint Armed Forces Color Guard and drummers from the United States Navy Band. A large American flag was unfurled across the field, with flag-bearing service members and a military flyover visible around the presentation. Daniel Durant performed the ASL version alongside McEntire.

Those are descriptions of the staging; judgments such as “majestic,” “pitch-perfect” or “the best Super Bowl anthem” are opinions rather than objective facts. Contemporary coverage from GRAMMY.com and the Associated Press described the completed performance and its presentation.
Why the performance was a full-circle moment for Reba
The Super Bowl appearance connected directly to the beginning of McEntire’s professional career. In 1974, when she was 19, she sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. Country artist Red Steagall heard her performance and encouraged her to come to Nashville.
The career breakthrough was a process rather than an instant transformation into a star. McEntire made demonstration recordings in Nashville in 1975. Steagall helped shop those demos, and later that year she obtained a Mercury/PolyGram record deal, according to the MCA biography of Reba. A PBS interview also recounts the connection between the rodeo anthem and the start of her country career.
McEntire’s official website presented Super Bowl LVIII as a 50-year anniversary of that 1974 turning point. That is why the performance meant more than a high-profile booking: she was returning to the same song that had helped put her in front of the person who opened the next door in her career.
Who performed the anthem in ASL?
Daniel Durant, a Deaf actor and ASL performer associated with the Oscar-winning film CODA, signed “The Star-Spangled Banner.” His appearance was a distinct performance role, not merely a brief identification of the song. The NFL worked with the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and LOVE SIGN on the ASL presentation.

- Anjel Piñero: “America the Beautiful”
- Shaheem Sanchez: “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and the ASL halftime performance

How could viewers watch the ASL performance?
For the 2024 event, the NFL, NAD and LOVE SIGN arranged a dedicated ASL stream for the pregame performances. Gallaudet described that stream as free and requiring no login at the time. The CBS Sports ASL landing page was the historical destination, although it may no longer function as a live or archived stream.
It is important to distinguish between the existence of an ASL performance and its exposure on the main television feed. Axios reported that Super Bowl broadcasts had historically given ASL performers limited screen time and that CBS planned a separate ASL destination. There is not enough evidence to claim that Durant appeared continuously on the regular CBS broadcast for the entire anthem.

How long was Reba’s national anthem?
Independent timing put McEntire’s rendition at approximately 1 minute, 35 seconds, or about 95 seconds. That is not an official NFL duration.
The discrepancy arose because McEntire repeated the final phrase, including “the brave.” Some sportsbooks stopped timing after the first “the brave,” while the performance continued to its repeated ending. As a result, betting settlements differed depending on each sportsbook’s rules. The most accurate summary is: independent timing placed the performance at about 95 seconds, but there was no clearly identified official NFL time and sportsbook counting methods varied. What did McEntire say about performing?
Before the game, McEntire said she saw herself as representing the anthem rather than making the moment about herself. She prepared by singing the song repeatedly—in the shower and in the car—and said her partner, Rex Linn, helped her rehearse. Her comments to ABC News’ Good Morning America and CBS News emphasized both the honor and the pressure of performing one of America’s most recognizable songs for a massive audience.
