Update for August 9, 2026: The Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games ended on February 22, 2026. There is no longer a live 2026 Winter Olympics broadcast to watch. The legal free options that remain are selected replays, ceremony recordings, highlights, and archive material whose availability depends on your country.
During the Games, no single free service provided every event worldwide. In the United States, NBC offered selected coverage over the air and Peacock carried every sport and event behind a paid plan. BBC iPlayer, CBC Gem, and 9Now offered free or partly free coverage in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia respectively, but those services were territory-restricted and did not all carry the complete Olympic schedule.
Where to watch 2026 Winter Olympics replays now
Olympic replay rights are usually shorter and more fragmented than live rights. A page that carried an event during the Games may now offer only a recap, may require a login or subscription, or may have disappeared entirely. Use this order when looking for a specific event:

- NBC Olympics: NBC retains sports recap pages and links to some full-event replays. Depending on the event and current rights window, playback may require Peacock or NBC authentication. Its short-track recap and replay page illustrates the type of archive still available.
- BBC Sport: The Winter Olympics video collection contains selected highlights and relive videos. It is not a guaranteed archive of every competition or every international feed.
- 9Now: The Australian service still lists selected Milano Cortina clips, ceremonies, highlights, and catch-up programmes. Individual pages can show expiry dates such as December 31, 2026, but assets may expire sooner or vary by programme.
- CBC Gem: Viewers physically in Canada can check the current Olympic collection and live-sports archive. CBC Gem offered extensive Olympic streaming during the Games, but there is no assurance that every original feed remains online.
When searching, include the sport, phase, and year—for example, Milano Cortina 2026 women’s ski cross full replay. Then check whether the result is a full event, a condensed replay, a highlight package, or a short news clip before pressing play.
What was free during the Games?
The word free meant different things in different countries. It could mean free-to-air television with an antenna, an ad-supported streaming service, a free account, coverage funded through a TV licence, or free highlights rather than every live event.

For Europe, the IOC awarded the 2026–2032 Olympic rights to the European Broadcasting Union and Warner Bros. Discovery. EBU members supplied country-specific free-to-air coverage, while Warner Bros. Discovery was the principal streaming provider. Examples of public broadcasters reported for individual European markets included ORF in Austria; RTBF and VRT in Belgium; DR in Denmark; France Télévisions; Rai; Yle; ZDF; RÚV; NOS; NRK; TVP; RTVE; and SRF/RTS. United States: could you watch every event for free?
No—not through a permanent free U.S. streaming service. The free route was a local NBC affiliate received over the air, and that delivered selected NBC coverage rather than the complete competition schedule.

Free NBC coverage with an antenna
During the Games, viewers could connect an over-the-air antenna, run a channel scan, find their local NBC affiliate, and consult the NBC Olympic television schedule. This required no streaming subscription, but reception depended on having an NBC station available in the area and the schedule chosen by NBC. It was not a way to watch every event.
NBC websites and apps
NBC’s websites and apps were free to use, but that did not make their live Olympic streams unrestricted. NBC’s help information says a live stream required authorization from a participating TV provider. If your provider was unsupported—or you had no eligible TV subscription—the player could remain locked. NBC also said it could not sell standalone NBC live access to viewers without a TV subscription. Peacock was the complete option, not the free option
Peacock was the U.S. streaming home for every sport and event, including all 116 medal events and full-event replays, but the complete Olympic package required a paid Peacock plan. Its historical event schedule guide shows how the service organized live feeds, sport hubs, Gold Zone, and replays.
Promotional trials and bundles mentioned before the Games—including offers involving Walmart+, YouTube TV, carriers, or other memberships—were temporary, eligibility-dependent, and time-sensitive. They should not be treated as a permanent free method, and any offer would need to be rechecked on the provider’s own site before publication or purchase.
United Kingdom: what BBC iPlayer provided
BBC coverage was one of the most substantial free-to-air Olympic packages. The BBC announced more than 450 hours of live action across BBC One, BBC Two, BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport, and the BBC Sport app, including an additional digital stream called Olympics Extra. The BBC’s Milano Cortina coverage announcement explains the original schedule and digital options.
That did not mean BBC iPlayer carried every event, every camera feed, or every competition available through the wider European rights package. A viewer seeking a less prominent event may have needed the local rights-holder’s other service.

BBC iPlayer is also not a worldwide free stream. It is intended for viewers in the UK, and BBC terms require users in the UK to comply with TV-licence rules when watching or downloading BBC programmes on iPlayer. The same terms say users should not stream or download iPlayer television programmes from outside the UK. Read the BBC terms of use.
Canada: CBC Gem and the free tier
CBC Gem was promoted as the free Canadian streaming destination for Milano Cortina 2026. Its official app listing describes the service as free, advertising-supported, and available for streaming within Canada. CBC offered extensive live and replay coverage, making Gem one of the stronger free options for viewers in its licensed territory.

- Open the CBC Gem website or app while physically in Canada.
- Create or sign in to a CBC account if the requested feature requires one.
- Open the Olympics collection or live-sports area.
- Select the event feed or replay and expect advertising on the free tier.
TSN, RDS, and Sportsnet also carried portions of the Canadian Olympic rights package, but they should not be described as free unless the viewer already has access through a television provider or another qualifying subscription. The official CBC Gem listing and CBC’s platform information provide the relevant availability qualifications.
Australia: 9Now was free, but it was not complete
Nine’s own description is important because it corrects a common overstatement. 9Network supplied the biggest Australian Olympic moments live and free. 9Now streamed 9Network programming and offered Australian-focused highlights, recaps, and on-demand content. It did not promise every Olympic event free online.
For the complete schedule—every sport, every event, and every medal event—Nine identified Stan Sport as the paid destination. Therefore, the accurate comparison is:
- 9Network and 9Now: selected live coverage, major Australian moments, highlights, recaps, and catch-up viewing at no subscription charge, with advertising.
- Stan Sport: the comprehensive paid package.
To use 9Now during the Games, viewers could create or sign in to a free Nine account, open the Winter Olympics section, and choose a live 9Network programme, highlight, recap, or catch-up video. Nine says 9Now is free and advertising-supported, but its terms and help pages make clear that content is available only within Australia. Nine also says it does not hold international streaming rights and warns that a VPN can interfere with playback. See 9Now’s location guidance.

Can you watch an overseas broadcaster from anywhere?
Not reliably, and not automatically lawfully. A VPN may change the apparent IP address, but it does not create broadcasting rights, satisfy a TV-licence obligation, guarantee an account will work, or turn a territory-specific service into a worldwide stream.
Broadcasters can detect and block VPN or proxy traffic. Access can also depend on payment details, account country, app-store region, GPS signals, cookies, DNS settings, device location, and the reputation of the VPN’s IP address. 9Now specifically says VPNs can prevent playback. BBC terms restrict iPlayer television streaming outside the UK, while CBC Gem’s official listing describes its content as available only within Canada.
If you are traveling, the safest approach is to check whether your existing broadcaster officially supports access abroad. If the service is geo-blocked, do not assume that bypassing the block complies with the broadcaster’s terms or the law where you are watching. This guide does not guarantee that any particular VPN works with BBC iPlayer, CBC Gem, 9Now, NBC, Peacock, or another rights-holder service.
How to find a replay that is actually the full event

- Whether the title says full replay, full event, or merely highlights.
- Whether the video covers the entire competition or only a medal run, national-team segment, or news recap.
- Whether the service is showing a television feed rather than an alternate international feed.
- Whether an account, TV-provider login, or paid plan is required after the player loads.
- Whether the video is available in your physical location.
- Whether an expiry date is displayed. 9Now Olympic pages, for example, can display a date such as December 31, 2026, but individual assets may disappear earlier.
For a current search, begin with the exact sport and event name on an official service. If the first result is unavailable, try the ceremony and event archives above rather than relying on unofficial uploads, mirror sites, or download links.
Troubleshooting official streams and archives
The page loads, but the video says it is unavailable in my region
That usually indicates a rights restriction, not a broken internet connection. Confirm your physical location, disconnect any VPN or proxy, disable location-spoofing tools, and reload the official page. If you are outside the licensed territory, use the rights-holder for your current country instead of assuming the service should work internationally.
The service asks for an account
A no-cost account is still an account requirement. CBC Gem may require a free CBC account for some functions, and 9Now requires a free Nine account for many videos. BBC iPlayer may require a BBC account and compliance with TV-licence rules. An account prompt does not mean that the complete catalogue is free or available in every country.
The NBC stream is locked
NBC’s digital live streams generally required authentication through a participating TV provider. Signing into the NBC website alone was not enough. For historical U.S. viewing, the alternatives were selected local NBC broadcast coverage with an antenna or the paid comprehensive Peacock package. For current replays, follow the specific authentication or subscription prompt shown on the NBC archive page.

Update the streaming app and device operating system, try a supported browser, and test playback without an ad blocker. For a laptop connected to a television, an outdated HDMI cable or incompatible digital-rights-management setup can prevent playback even when the video works on the laptop. 9Now lists VPNs, ad blockers, outdated operating systems, HDMI equipment, and content-protection restrictions among possible causes of playback problems. Its supported-browser guidance and security-restriction troubleshooting are useful examples.
The event is missing from the archive
It may never have been included in that broadcaster’s free package, or its rights window may have ended. Free coverage often focused on ceremonies, medal events, national-interest competitions, highlights, or a broadcaster’s own television feed. Check another official rights-holder in the same country, then look for a condensed replay or highlights package. Do not interpret an empty archive as proof that the event was never broadcast.

The Games were held in Italy, so viewers outside Central European Time had to convert the schedule to their own time zone. The competition schedule also included curling competition beginning on February 4, before the main February 6–22 Games period. For historical listings, use the official competition schedule rather than copying event times from an old article. Olympic schedules and broadcaster listings can change.
What the phrase free did—and did not—mean

The official Olympics YouTube channel has published a full opening-ceremony replay and a full closing-ceremony replay. Availability can still change by platform or region.
Are full-event replays still available?
Some may be. NBC Olympics retains links to at least some full-event replays, while BBC Sport, CBC Gem, 9Now, and the official Olympics channel offer selected archive material.
