For a first viewing, the best order is almost the same as release order, with one change: watch From the World of John Wick: Ballerina after John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum and before John Wick: Chapter 4.
Ballerina is a spin-off rather than John Wick 5. Its story overlaps part of Chapter 3 and then continues before the events of Chapter 4.

John Wick movies in release-date order
Release order is the simplest way to watch the films. It follows the way the world, characters and rules of the High Table were introduced to audiences.
| Order | Film | Release date |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | John Wick | October 24, 2014 |
| 2 | John Wick: Chapter 2 | February 10, 2017 |
| 3 | John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum | May 17, 2019 |
| 4 | John Wick: Chapter 4 | March 24, 2023 |
| 5 | From the World of John Wick: Ballerina | June 6, 2025 |
1. John Wick (2014)
The film that starts the series introduces the retired assassin whose attempt to live quietly is destroyed by a violent intrusion from his past. It establishes the Continental, the criminal underworld’s codes and the reputation that makes John Wick such a dangerous target.

- Now in 4K, relive all three installments of the iconic JOHN WICK action franchise that continues to wow audiences worldwide.
2. John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
The second film picks up after the first movie and expands the series’ mythology. A blood oath pulls John back into the assassin world, while the consequences of breaking its rules begin to close around him.
3. John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum (2019)
Parabellum begins immediately after the ending of Chapter 2. John is declared excommunicado and must fight his way through the consequences of his actions while seeking protection from old allies.
4. John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
The fourth mainline film follows the fallout from Parabellum and takes John’s conflict with the High Table into a wider international arena. It is best saved until after Ballerina if you want the practical chronological order of the released movies.
5. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025)
Often shortened to Ballerina, this spin-off follows Eve Macarro, a trained killer pursuing revenge. The film is not a fifth numbered John Wick chapter. Its timeline is placed around the events of Chapter 3, with some scenes overlapping that film and other material taking place afterward but before Chapter 4.
Rank #2
- John Wick (Keanu Reeves) takes on his most lethal adversaries yet in the upcoming fourth installment of the series. With the price on his head ever increasing, Wick takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Osaka to Berlin.
John Wick movies in chronological story order
For the practical story order, watch the films as follows:
- John Wick
- John Wick: Chapter 2
- John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum
- From the World of John Wick: Ballerina
- John Wick: Chapter 4
The first three movies form a direct chain. Ballerina is the only title that complicates the sequence because its story is not completely linear. Describing it as “between Chapter 3 and Chapter 4” is accurate for a spoiler-free viewing guide, but it is not correct to say that every scene happens strictly after Chapter 3.
The recommended viewing order
For most viewers, use this order:
John Wick → Chapter 2 → Chapter 3—Parabellum → Ballerina → Chapter 4
This sequence preserves the setup for Ballerina, including its connections to the Ruska Roma, the Director and John’s excommunicado status. It also places the spin-off before the fourth film without pretending that its timeline is perfectly linear.
Rank #3
Should you watch Ballerina before Chapter 3?
It is possible to watch it earlier, but it is not the clearest choice. Chapter 3 establishes circumstances and characters that make Ballerina easier to place. Watching the spin-off after the third film also avoids interrupting the main trilogy’s direct momentum.
If you are watching by release date, however, place Ballerina last. That preserves the order in which the five released features reached audiences.
Where does The Continental fit?
The Continental: From the World of John Wick is a three-part television series, not a feature film. Its story is set decades before the movies, so it should not be inserted into a movie-only list.
Include it in a separate guide to the wider John Wick universe or television chronology. For the five-film list, leave it out.

- From Summit Entertainment and the producer of CLASH OF THE TITANS and THE TOWN comes a tale of adrenaline-fueled revenge and redemption. When a retired hit man is forced back into action by a sadistic young thug, he hunts down his adversaries with the skill and ruthlessness that made him an underworld legend.
Is John Wick: Chapter 5 released?
No. Chapter 5 should not be counted among the released films. Lionsgate has confirmed that a fifth mainline film is in development, with Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski attached, but no release date is established in the cited franchise information.
Ballerina is therefore not John Wick 5. Its official title is From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, and it is a spin-off set within the established timeline.
