YouTube TV’s Lower-Cost Plans Include a Standalone Sports Tier: What You Get

YouTube TV’s Sports Plan is a standalone membership with local channels, major sports networks, unlimited DVR and Multiview. Here’s what it costs, what it excludes, and whether Sunday Ticket is extra.

Yes—the YouTube TV Sports Plan is a separate base membership, not the older Sports Plus add-on. It costs $64.99 per month at the standard rate and includes local broadcast stations where available, major national sports networks, unlimited DVR, Multiview, up to six household accounts, and three simultaneous streams. NFL Sunday Ticket is not included.

YouTube TV also offers genre-based combinations built around sports, news, entertainment, and family programming. Because the promotional Sports Plan price of $54.99 per month for 12 months was listed through August 26, 2026, readers signing up now should check the checkout screen for the current offer rather than assume the promotion remains available.

What YouTube TV changed

YouTube TV has moved beyond a single broad English-language package by introducing more than 10 genre-based membership combinations. The main plan remains available with more than 100 channels, but subscribers can now choose packages centered on sports, news, entertainment, and family programming.

Available combinations can include Sports, Sports + News, Sports + Entertainment, Sports + Family, News + Entertainment, Entertainment + Family, and other combinations. The exact choices can vary by account and billing provider. These are predefined bundles—not a completely custom service where you select individual channels.

Item Price or status Important qualification
Sports Plan standard rate $64.99 per month Ongoing advertised price
Introductory offer $54.99 per month for 12 months Offer was listed through August 26, 2026; verify availability at checkout
NFL Sunday Ticket Separate charge Available as an add-on or separately through YouTube Primetime Channels

The introductory price represented a $10 monthly discount, or $120 over 12 months, before taxes. It was not the permanent cost. Pricing, taxes, eligibility, and billing treatment can vary by location, account, and whether YouTube TV is billed directly or through a third party.

What channels are in the Sports Plan?

YouTube’s official Sports Plan page describes the package as including 34 channels, although the published lineup is not necessarily exhaustive and can change. The sports-focused selection includes networks such as:

  • Local broadcast networks: ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC where available; PBS and The CW may also be available in relevant markets.
  • ESPN networks: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN News, and selected conference networks.
  • College sports: ACC Network, SEC Network, and Big Ten Network.
  • National sports and cable networks: FS1, FS2, NBA TV, Golf, CBS Sports Network, TBS, TNT, truTV, NFL Network, and USA.
  • Regional sports: NBC regional sports networks and other regional offerings where available in the subscriber’s market.

Do not treat that list as universal. Enter your home ZIP code on YouTube TV’s availability page or during checkout. Local stations and regional sports networks depend on the market, rights agreements, and the subscriber’s designated home area.

  • 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.

  • Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.

What the Sports Plan includes beyond channels

The Sports Plan retains several of YouTube TV’s core features:

  • Unlimited cloud DVR storage
  • Multiview for watching supported events together
  • Key Plays and Stats View for supported sports
  • Fantasy football integration
  • Up to six personal accounts for one household
  • Three simultaneous streams under standard plan limits

Six accounts does not mean six people can stream at once. The standard limit is three concurrent devices. YouTube’s account and streaming guidance explains the distinction.

What the Sports Plan does not include

Important omissions:

  • NFL Sunday Ticket
  • NFL RedZone
  • Every regional sports network
  • Every local station in every ZIP code
  • Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video
  • Every league’s out-of-market package
  • The full entertainment, news, lifestyle, children’s, and general cable lineup

The word “sports” does not mean every live sporting event. Programming remains divided among networks, leagues, local stations, regional networks, and separate streaming services.

Sports Plan versus NFL Sunday Ticket

The two products serve different purposes:

  • Sports Plan: provides local broadcast channels and national networks carrying many regular-season, college, NBA, golf, and other events.
  • NFL Sunday Ticket: provides eligible out-of-market Sunday afternoon NFL regular-season games.

Sunday Ticket does not replace local broadcasts, nationally televised games, playoff coverage, or Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video. It also does not automatically include NFL RedZone.

  • Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight

For the 2026–27 season, YouTube’s surfaced offer showed a returning-user bundled price of $378 for the season, or 12 payments of $31.50, when purchased with YouTube TV. A standalone YouTube purchase was shown at $480, or 12 payments of $40. These prices and promotions are volatile, so confirm the final checkout total. When purchased as a YouTube TV add-on, Sunday Ticket requires an active YouTube TV subscription for the season. See the official Sunday Ticket page and NFL coverage guidance.

What “standalone” means—and what it does not mean

The Sports Plan is standalone in relation to YouTube TV’s main plan: you can subscribe to it without paying for the full package. It is not the same as Sports Plus, which remains an add-on requiring an active YouTube TV membership.

Other products also have their own requirements. 4K Plus, Entertainment Plus, Spanish Plus, and Sports Plus require an active YouTube TV subscription. Sunday Ticket is the notable exception because it can also be purchased independently through YouTube Primetime Channels. YouTube lists these requirements on its add-ons help page.

Local channels, regional networks, and blackouts

Local broadcast channels make the Sports Plan more useful for sports fans than a package containing only national sports networks. Depending on the market, local stations may carry Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, Thanksgiving games, nationally televised postseason games, and other local or national broadcasts.

Roku Streaming Stick 4K - HDR & D. Vision Roku Streaming Device for TV with Voice Remote & Long-Range Wi-Fi - Free & Live TV (Renewed)
  • Hides behind your TV: The all-new design plugs right into your TV with a simple setup

  • No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku Streaming Stick with the Roku remote
  • Voice search & control: Quickly search, play entertainment, and control your streaming device with the voice remote

However, the plan does not guarantee every game involving a local team. Coverage can depend on the home market, league rights, blackouts, the channel carrying the event, and whether the relevant regional sports network is available. Traveling can also change which local channels are displayed under YouTube TV’s location rules. Check your ZIP-code-specific lineup before subscribing, particularly if one regional network is essential to your viewing.

ESPN Unlimited timing

YouTube announced that subscribers whose plan includes ESPN—including the Sports Plan—would receive ESPN Unlimited at no additional charge later in fall 2026. That announcement should not be treated as proof that the feature is active on every account. Check your membership and ESPN access directly if this benefit is important to your decision.

The ESPN channels already listed in the Sports Plan and the separately announced ESPN Unlimited benefit are not the same claim: one describes current channel access, while the other concerns a future or rolling-out feature.

Who should choose the Sports Plan?

It is a strong fit for:

  • Viewers who mainly watch live sports and local broadcast stations
  • College sports fans who need ESPN networks and conference channels
  • NBA, golf, and general national-sports viewers
  • NFL viewers who want local and nationally televised games and may add Sunday Ticket
  • Households that value Multiview and unlimited DVR but rarely watch general cable channels

The main plan may be better for:

  • Households that regularly watch entertainment, news, lifestyle, or children’s networks
  • Viewers whose essential network is missing from the Sports Plan in their market
  • Sports fans who would need several add-ons to recreate their normal lineup
  • Households with important DVR recordings from channels excluded by the Sports Plan

The savings are real only when the Sports Plan covers your actual must-have channels. Add Sunday Ticket, RedZone, a regional network, premium entertainment, or other services before comparing the total with the main plan.

How to switch from another YouTube TV plan

  1. Open the YouTube TV app or website.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Membership.
  4. Review the plans available for your account.
  5. Choose the desired plan and follow the confirmation steps.

YouTube says the change begins immediately. Existing add-ons generally carry over, and moving to a cheaper plan may create a credit toward a future payment subject to YouTube’s stated limits.

If your subscription is billed through a mobile carrier, internet provider, or Google Play, the plan-switching controls may differ. You may need to manage the change through that billing provider or move to direct YouTube TV billing. If a plan is missing, billing method—not necessarily geographic unavailability—may be the reason.

Read this DVR warning before downgrading

Switching to a narrower plan can remove access to recordings associated with networks that are no longer included. Review your DVR library before changing plans, especially before a major event, season finale, or recorded series you still intend to watch.

YouTube says that upgrading back to regain the relevant genre within 21 days can restore access to lost DVR content. Do not assume that recordings from excluded channels will remain permanently available after a downgrade.

A practical cost-check before subscribing

  1. List every network and event you consider essential.
  2. Check the Sports Plan lineup using your home ZIP code.
  3. Identify whether you need Sunday Ticket, RedZone, a regional sports network, or another add-on.
  4. Use the post-promotion monthly price, not only the introductory price.
  5. Include taxes and any third-party billing terms.
  6. Check whether changing plans affects DVR recordings or household viewing.
  7. Compare the complete bundle with the main YouTube TV plan.

A lower headline price does not guarantee lower spending. If restoring missing channels and premium sports products brings the total close to the main plan, the broader membership may be the simpler choice.

Bottom line

YouTube TV’s Sports Plan is a genuine standalone YouTube TV membership at $64.99 per month—not merely a sports add-on. It is most compelling for viewers who need local broadcast stations, major national sports networks, unlimited DVR, and Multiview but do not use enough general-interest channels to justify the main plan.

It is not an all-sports pass. Sunday Ticket, RedZone, many regional networks, Thursday Night Football, and other rights-controlled programming remain separate. Check the ZIP-code-specific lineup, calculate the full bundle, and review your DVR before switching.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
