The major Disney–YouTube TV blackout ended on November 14, 2025, when the companies announced a multi-year distribution agreement. ABC, ESPN and Disney’s other affected networks returned, although local ABC availability still depends on your market and affiliate. This page was last checked against the cited information on August 16, 2026.
Is Disney still off YouTube TV?
No general Disney blackout is indicated by the current agreement. Disney-owned cable networks and stations, including ESPN and ABC, were restored after the November 14, 2025 deal. YouTube TV’s current public lineup and your local station availability should still be checked directly, because a national agreement does not guarantee that every local ABC affiliate is carried in every market.
Keep these products separate:
- Disney-owned cable networks: Disney Channel, Freeform, FX and National Geographic services.
- ESPN networks: ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ACC Network and related services.
- Local ABC: A broadcast affiliate whose availability is market-specific.
- Direct subscriptions: Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Select or ESPN Unlimited are separate products and entitlements.
- Free digital streams: Services such as ABC News Live do not prove that your local ABC station is available through YouTube TV.
For an account-specific answer, open YouTube TV and search for your local ABC station and the ESPN networks you watch. If a channel is absent while others work, the problem may be local licensing, an account issue or an app error rather than a new national dispute.
What happened, and how long did the blackout last?
- Around October 30, 2025: The previous distribution agreement expired and Disney programming disappeared from YouTube TV.
- During the blackout: Subscribers lost Disney’s affected portfolio for more than two weeks.
- November 14, 2025: Disney and YouTube announced a multi-year agreement and restored the channels. The resolution was reported by The Associated Press.
The affected period was therefore approximately October 30 through November 14, not an ongoing 2026 blackout.

Which channels were affected?
| Category | Examples | What subscribers should know |
|---|---|---|
| Sports | ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ACC Network | These carry major college sports and other national sports programming. Network carriage is different from ESPN-app authentication. |
| Broadcast | ABC and local ABC affiliates | Availability depends on your designated market and affiliate agreement. |
| Entertainment | Disney Channel, Freeform, FX networks | Live and on-demand rights can differ by plan and recording status. |
| Factual and documentary | National Geographic networks | Disney described these networks as part of the affected portfolio. |
| Direct-to-consumer services | Disney+, Hulu, ESPN services | These are separate subscriptions or benefits; restoring a YouTube TV channel does not automatically grant every app entitlement. |
Disney’s account of the affected portfolio is available at the company’s dispute statement. Local ABC impact was never identical in every market.
Why were YouTube TV and Disney fighting?
YouTube TV’s stated position
YouTube said Disney was seeking expensive economic terms that could raise customer prices, reduce flexibility and favor Disney’s own live-TV products, including Hulu + Live TV and its then-planned relationship with Fubo. Those are YouTube’s negotiating claims, not findings that Disney violated the law.
Disney’s stated position
Disney said YouTube TV wanted preferential treatment and rejected terms Disney characterized as market-based and comparable with other distributors. Disney argued that its sports, news and entertainment networks delivered substantial value and accused Google of using its market position against customers. Those statements describe Disney’s position in the negotiation.

Neither company publicly disclosed enough wholesale detail to calculate a per-subscriber fee or prove that either side deliberately engineered the blackout to sell another service.
What did the final agreement change?
- It created a multi-year distribution agreement.
- Disney’s affected networks and stations, including ESPN and ABC, returned to YouTube TV.
- Disney said the arrangement expanded consumer choice and could allow a Disney+, Hulu bundle in select YouTube offerings.
- YouTube described a framework involving Disney’s direct-to-consumer sports products, including ESPN’s newer streaming service.

Do YouTube TV customers automatically get ESPN Unlimited?
Not necessarily. Three different things are often conflated:

- YouTube TV carriage: Your live-TV plan includes an ESPN network in its channel guide.
- ESPN app authentication: You sign in through an eligible provider to unlock content in the ESPN app.
- A direct ESPN subscription: You pay ESPN separately for Select or Unlimited.
ESPN’s provider instructions list services that may support ESPN Unlimited authentication, but eligibility can change and the available provider examples do not establish universal YouTube TV access. Check your YouTube TV account benefits, the ESPN app’s provider-login screen and your plan terms. The relevant guidance is at ESPN’s activation page.
ESPN Select versus ESPN Unlimited
| Plan | Published U.S. price | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| ESPN Select | $12.99 monthly or $129.99 annually | Primarily the ESPN+ library; it is not a replacement for the live ESPN and ESPN2 cable networks. |
| ESPN Unlimited | $29.99 monthly or $299.99 annually | The broader ESPN network and service proposition, subject to blackouts, rights restrictions and plan terms. |
Prices and inclusions are from ESPN’s pricing information. Do not buy Select expecting the live-network access associated with Unlimited.

Will the Disney deal raise YouTube TV’s price?
There is no disclosed calculation showing that the Disney agreement caused a particular price increase. The current public YouTube TV signup page displays a base membership price signal of $82.99 per month, with up to six household accounts, but prices, taxes, promotions and plan structures can change. Check YouTube TV’s current page before subscribing or renewing; the displayed price does not reveal how much is attributable to Disney programming.

Was there a YouTube TV credit?
YouTube TV announced a possible $20 credit if Disney content remained unavailable for an extended period. It was not an automatic payment for every subscriber. Eligibility, redemption instructions and deadlines depended on the account and YouTube TV’s rules; consult the email or account-specific notice described in YouTube TV’s customer update.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you do if you mainly need ESPN or ABC?
Stay with YouTube TV
This is the simplest choice if you value its guide, DVR, household profiles, local channels and broad live-TV lineup, and the restored Disney channels meet your needs. Confirm your local ABC station and current plan rather than relying on the national ABC brand.
Add ESPN Unlimited
Use this route if YouTube TV works for everything else and ESPN is your only gap. At the published $29.99 monthly or $299.99 annual price, it is a supplement—not a replacement for local ABC, Disney Channel, FX or a general live-TV guide. It can also duplicate sports coverage you already receive.

Use an antenna for ABC
An over-the-air antenna may provide local ABC and other broadcast networks where signal strength, terrain and antenna placement permit. It cannot provide ESPN’s cable networks, so pair it with ESPN Unlimited or another sports service if necessary. Check reception for your exact address before buying equipment.
Should you switch to Hulu + Live TV?
Switching makes the most sense for households that want a Disney-controlled ecosystem and already value Disney+ and Hulu alongside ESPN content. Do not confuse the streaming bundle with Hulu + Live TV: the products have different live channels, DVR features, local-station coverage and simultaneous-stream rules.
| Option | Published price signal | Best suited to | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Unlimited bundle | $35.99 monthly standard; $44.99 monthly premium | Households wanting all three direct services together | Not automatically a full live-TV replacement; apps and live-channel needs must be checked. |
| Hulu + Live TV | Current price not established here; verify directly | Viewers seeking a broader live-TV service tied to Hulu and Disney’s ecosystem | Compare local channels, DVR, taxes, add-ons and regional sports before switching. |
See the bundle’s current terms at Hulu’s official page. The bundle price is not evidence that Hulu + Live TV is cheaper than YouTube TV for an equivalent lineup.
Could another blackout happen?
Any carriage agreement can become an issue when it approaches renewal. The multi-year deal reduces the immediate risk but does not guarantee uninterrupted carriage forever. There is no evidence here of a new blackout; check the YouTube TV lineup and official notices before changing services.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat about the separate lawsuit settlement?
Reports have described a separate litigation settlement involving Disney and subscribers to YouTube TV and DIRECTV Stream. It is not the same as the $20 blackout credit. Do not assume you are owed money: eligibility, claim requirements, deadlines and payment amounts require an official settlement-administrator notice. The available material does not establish a verified administrator page or claim deadline. Treat reports such as this coverage as a prompt to verify court-approved information, not as proof of automatic compensation.
Common problems after restoration
- Local ABC is missing but ESPN works: Check the designated market and affiliate listing before assuming the national deal failed.
- ESPN rejects YouTube TV credentials: Channel carriage does not prove that your account has an ESPN Unlimited entitlement.
- Old Disney recordings are unavailable: Recording rights, expiration and account status can affect Library access even after restoration. YouTube discussed restored content in its customer update.
- A Disney add-on lacks ESPN: Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Select, ESPN Unlimited and YouTube TV carriage are distinct products.
- A game is unavailable despite an ESPN subscription: Regional blackouts, event rights and local-affiliate restrictions still apply.
The Bottom Line
The 2025 Disney–YouTube TV blackout is over: the agreement announced November 14, 2025 restored Disney networks, including ESPN and ABC, subject to local-affiliate availability. Stay with YouTube TV if its lineup and price fit your household; add ESPN Unlimited for a narrow sports need; or compare Hulu + Live TV and an antenna-plus-sports setup if you want a different mix. Verify current plan terms and account entitlements before switching.
