Disney and YouTube TV reached a multi-year deal on November 14, 2025, ending a blackout that had lasted more than two weeks. Disney channels, including ESPN and participating local ABC stations, began returning that day. The agreement also promised YouTube TV subscribers access to ESPN Unlimited at no extra cost, but the announcement did not spell out its rollout, activation steps or every included feature.
So this is not a new August 2026 agreement: it is a 2025 settlement whose practical details still matter to subscribers deciding what their plan includes and whether it meets their needs.
What returned to YouTube TV
The agreement covers Disney’s full linear channel portfolio, not just ESPN and ABC. That includes ESPN networks, Disney-branded channels, Freeform, FX and National Geographic, as well as sports networks such as SEC Network and ACC Network where included in a subscriber’s package. Disney said the channels began returning on November 14; YouTube said restoration would happen over the course of the day, so availability was not necessarily simultaneous for every customer.
ABC requires a local-market qualification. YouTube TV generally carries participating local ABC affiliates rather than one identical national ABC feed for every subscriber. The station available to you depends on your market and the affiliate’s carriage arrangement. Check the channel lineup for your ZIP code rather than assuming every customer receives the same ABC service.

Disney’s announcement describes the agreement and its channel portfolio. The YouTube update explains the return timing and the company’s account of the dispute.
What the multi-year agreement includes
The public announcement identifies several parts of the deal:
- Continued carriage of Disney’s linear networks on YouTube TV, with some networks potentially offered through genre-specific packages.
- ESPN Unlimited to be made available to YouTube TV subscribers at no additional cost.
- Selected live and on-demand ESPN Unlimited programming to be integrated into YouTube TV.
- The option to include the Disney+, Hulu Bundle in selected YouTube offerings.
“Multi-year” is the only public description of the contract’s length in the cited announcement. The parties did not disclose the exact term, carriage fees or other financial terms. The announcement also does not establish that every channel or benefit applies identically to every YouTube TV plan, or say precisely which YouTube offerings may include the Disney+, Hulu Bundle.

ESPN Unlimited is not the same thing as an ESPN channel in the guide
There are distinct pieces to keep straight: ESPN’s traditional linear channels carried in YouTube TV, ESPN Unlimited as a direct-to-consumer service, and selected ESPN Unlimited programming that the agreement says will appear inside YouTube TV. A promise that ESPN Unlimited will be made available does not, by itself, confirm that every subscriber can already use every feature, or that all of its programming is integrated into YouTube TV.
The announcement does not provide a complete activation guide or enumerate all included features. Check the YouTube TV and ESPN apps for the access method and current eligibility shown for your account. If ESPN appears in the YouTube TV guide but ESPN Unlimited content does not, those are separate access questions; do not assume one automatically proves the other is active. ESPN Unlimited should not be casually equated with ESPN+ or with the existing ESPN linear channels.
For sports-focused households, an ESPN direct-to-consumer subscription may be worth comparing with YouTube TV, but it is not a like-for-like replacement for a broad live-TV package. It does not automatically substitute for local ABC, Disney entertainment channels or the rest of YouTube TV’s channel lineup. ESPN’s official viewing page is the place to check current service information.

What subscribers experienced during the blackout
Disney-owned channels went dark on YouTube TV around the night of October 30, 2025, after the previous carriage terms expired. The dispute lasted more than two weeks. During that period, affected customers could not watch the removed Disney channels through YouTube TV, including local ABC news and programming where that affiliate was among the channels lost.

YouTube said channels and recordings previously saved in subscribers’ Libraries should return as restoration progressed. That was a restoration policy, not a guarantee that every missing recording or interrupted live event could be recovered. If a channel has returned but a particular saved program has not, treat it as a separate recording or account issue and contact YouTube TV support.
YouTube also discussed a potential one-time $20 credit if the blackout continued for an extended period. That historical policy does not establish that every subscriber qualified, that a credit was issued automatically, or that it can still be claimed. Check the account’s billing history or contact support rather than relying on the earlier announcement as proof of eligibility. If channels did not show up immediately after the return, first refresh the live guide or restart the app. If a specific channel remains missing, verify that it is part of your plan and available in your market before treating it as a service-wide outage.

The public agreement announcement does not disclose a price increase caused by the settlement, and the deal’s financial terms are not public. During negotiations, YouTube TV argued that Disney’s proposed terms could increase customer prices and reduce choice. Disney disputed YouTube’s account, arguing that Google was resisting fair market rates. Those were the companies’ competing claims, not disclosed contract figures.

The Associated Press reported a YouTube TV base-plan price of $82.99 per month on November 14, 2025. That is a historical price point, not confirmation of the price in August 2026. Prices, promotions and plan names can change; check YouTube TV’s current plan information before comparing costs. The same caution applies to historical reports of ESPN’s standalone service starting at $29.99 a month and an ESPN/Hulu/Disney+ bundle at $35.99 a month, with a first-year introductory price of $29.99, as reported at the time. Why the companies fought over carriage
The blackout reflected a conflict over both economics and control of distribution. YouTube TV said Disney sought costly terms that could be passed on to customers and limit their choices. Disney accused Google of using its scale to demand below-market or preferential treatment. The complete economic terms were not made public, so neither company’s public position should be mistaken for a neutral account of the contract.
The dispute also shows why streaming live television remains tied to traditional network licensing. YouTube TV needs popular live sports and broadcast networks to compete as a cable replacement; Disney distributes those networks while also building direct-to-consumer services such as ESPN, Disney+ and Hulu. Disney’s relationships with other live-TV distributors, including Hulu + Live TV and Fubo, add to the strategic stakes. The companies had a carriage dispute in 2021 as well, but the 2025 blackout lasted substantially longer, according to the Associated Press.
How to decide whether YouTube TV still fits
If you already subscribe, the deal’s clearest practical value is the return of Disney’s linear channels alongside the rest of your YouTube TV lineup. Whether to keep the service depends on more than ESPN: compare your actual monthly bill with the channels and features your household uses, including local broadcast coverage, DVR, simultaneous streams and any regional sports needs.

- ESPN direct-to-consumer: Consider it if ESPN programming is your main need and you do not require a full live-TV replacement. Check current availability and features through ESPN.
- Disney+, Hulu and ESPN: A bundle may make sense if you want on-demand entertainment as well as sports. It is not automatically equivalent to a live-TV package with local broadcast stations. Check current options at Disney+.
- Other live-TV services: Hulu + Live TV or Fubo may be alternatives, but channel and local-station availability varies by market and plan. Compare the actual lineup you would receive, not just a service’s sports-focused positioning.
Before switching, compare the full monthly cost, local ABC and other broadcast affiliates, the sports channels you watch, DVR rules, regional sports availability and whether a Disney or Hulu benefit is actually included or sold separately. Also weigh the practical cost of using multiple apps and account logins. A narrower sports service can cost less than a broad bundle yet still leave important local or entertainment channels out.
