If OBS accepts the key but the stream drops frames or disconnects, troubleshoot the encoder and network instead: those symptoms do not, by themselves, mean the key is wrong. The documented steps below apply to creators in India as well as elsewhere; the official guidance cited here does not establish a separate India-specific procedure.
First, identify what is failing
Separate a credential rejection from an encoder or connection problem before changing settings. A stream key is the credential OBS uses to send a feed to YouTube. Keep it private; if it may have been exposed, reset it.
| What you see | Likely area to check | What to do first |
|---|---|---|
| OBS cannot start the stream or YouTube reports a key/startup error | Key may be old, incorrect, or no longer the one assigned to the stream | Copy the current key from Live Control Room and update OBS. |
| OBS connects but reports dropped frames or disconnects | Network path, stable upload capacity, or interference | Check connection stability and bitrate; use the network steps below. |
| OBS appears to send, but the stream is not visible to viewers | Incoming preview, selected event, or event visibility/status | Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the intended event. |
These categories can overlap, but their fixes are not interchangeable: an Ethernet cable may help diagnose unstable Wi-Fi, but it cannot make an incorrect key valid.
Refresh the stream key in YouTube Studio and OBS
- Open the current key. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open the Stream tab in Live Control Room. Copy the key shown in the Stream key section. YouTube’s startup-error guidance tells third-party encoder users to retrieve the key there and update their encoder: YouTube Help: Fix live stream errors.
- Replace the saved key in OBS. Paste the copied key into OBS’s stream-key field for the YouTube service/server setup you intend to use. OBS labels and layouts can vary by version and configuration; use the stream settings for the active OBS profile rather than putting the key in an unrelated field.
- Start again and check YouTube. Start streaming from OBS, then look at the Live Control Room for an incoming preview or status. Confirm that the selected event is the one you mean to stream to.
If you suspect the key has changed or been exposed, reset it in the same Stream key section, then replace the old saved value in OBS with the newly generated one. Only a channel owner or manager can reset a key; editors and viewers do not have that permission. Treat the key as a password and never publish or share it. See YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the key is accepted, check OBS and the event
Confirm the active OBS setup
- Make sure OBS is using the intended YouTube service/server setup and the expected profile. A key pasted into one profile will not update a different profile.
- Update OBS to a current version if you are using an older release, then test whether the encoder can send audio and video.
- Check the Live Control Room’s incoming preview and status. Encoder acceptance means YouTube is receiving a connection; it does not automatically mean the intended event is selected or publicly visible.
YouTube’s guidance recommends checking the encoder and the outbound connection when an encoder stream fails. OBS’s connection guide covers dropped frames and ingest connectivity: OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting.
Check preview and event selection
Before starting the public broadcast, verify that the intended event is selected and inspect the incoming preview in Live Control Room. If OBS is connected but viewers cannot see the stream, diagnose event selection and status separately from the key.

Fix dropped frames and intermittent disconnections
Dropped frames and disconnects more often point to an unstable route to YouTube, insufficient stable upload capacity, or interference than to a mistyped key. Change one thing at a time so you can tell which test matters.
- Check upload capacity and leave headroom. YouTube recommends that the stream bitrate fit within available outbound bandwidth and advises leaving room beyond the planned bitrate. Its streaming tips recommend 20% bandwidth headroom; this is a bandwidth margin recommendation, not a universal OBS bitrate setting. Run YouTube’s connection test and compare the available upload capacity with your planned stream bitrate. If the test indicates a connection problem, contact your ISP. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Lower bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it. Choose a bitrate your connection can maintain consistently, not merely a peak speed from a brief test. If the stream improves after lowering it, the earlier setting may have exceeded reliable upload capacity.
- Test a different server where available. OBS recommends trying another ingest server if the selected route is unstable.
- Test wired Ethernet if you suspect Wi-Fi instability. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is one option for a wired test if your computer and router have compatible Ethernet ports. A cable can help isolate a Wi-Fi problem; it does not repair a bad key.
- Check interference. As a diagnostic, review firewall or antivirus interference, temporarily disable a VPN, and check network-prioritizing software and network drivers. Restore security settings after testing and change only what you can safely verify.
OBS’s troubleshooting guidance covers server choice, bitrate, firewall or antivirus interference, VPNs, network-prioritizing software, drivers, and wired connections: OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting.

Quick troubleshooting by symptom
- YouTube reports a startup or key error: retrieve the current key in Live Control Room and replace OBS’s saved key. Reset it first if it may be compromised.
- You cannot reset the key: ask a channel owner or manager; editors and viewers cannot reset it.
- The key seems accepted but no public stream appears: inspect incoming preview/status and confirm the intended event is selected.
- Dropped frames continue: check stable upload capacity, lower bitrate, test another server, and investigate Wi-Fi or local network interference.
- The connection test indicates an upload problem: contact your ISP after checking your local connection and planned bitrate.
Or let it run in the cloud
