If YouTube Live Control Room warns that your current frame rate is too high, set your encoder’s output to the maximum frame rate named in that warning, then check that keyframes are sent every 2 seconds. If the stream still looks unhealthy, inspect the encoder output, errors, and CPU load before testing your outbound internet connection. YouTube’s specific warning takes precedence over its general allowance of up to 60 fps.
Read the exact warning in Live Control Room
Open the live dashboard and find the error beside the Health Indicator. YouTube’s error guidance includes the message: “The current frame rate is too high. Please set the frame rate to X fps or less.” Use the value shown in your own warning as the ceiling for that stream; do not assume that 60 fps is acceptable just because it is YouTube’s general maximum.
Check the error’s color and timestamp. YouTube marks critical errors in red and moderate errors in yellow, and shows when an error was detected. A red error may prevent an event from starting or cause viewer problems; a yellow error may reduce quality. An unresolved error can appear again.
For the warning’s exact meaning and current interface guidance, see YouTube’s live streaming error messages.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Lower the encoder’s output frame rate and check keyframes
- Find the encoder’s output video settings. Change the output frame rate so it is no higher than the fps limit stated in the YouTube warning.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its warning guidance notes that frame rate and keyframe frequency are linked and advises delivering keyframes every 2 seconds.
- Check what Live Control Room detects. YouTube generally detects encoder settings automatically. Resolution and frame rate are automatic by default unless you create a custom stream key and enable manual resolution settings.
- Apply the settings and inspect the preview. Confirm that the warning clears and that the preview plays correctly before starting the event.
YouTube’s general live encoder guidance lists frame rates up to 60 fps, but the message for your current stream may specify a lower maximum. It also lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 options, and recommends constant bitrate (CBR). See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for settings relevant to your codec and output.
Use bitrate guidance without confusing it with a frame-rate fix
Bitrate does not replace the need to meet the warning’s frame-rate limit. YouTube publishes bitrate recommendations by codec, resolution, and frame rate; these H.264 examples are recommendations, not guarantees that a given connection can sustain the rate.

| H.264 output | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
Choose a quality level your upload connection can reliably sustain and test upload speed. Do not select a universal resolution or bitrate without considering codec, frame rate, and available connection capacity.
Separate encoder or source problems from connection problems
Check the stream at the encoder first. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance distinguishes between poor output already visible in the encoder and output that looks healthy there.

| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| The encoder preview looks or sounds poor | Check the audio and video sources routed to the encoder, inspect encoder errors and CPU load, and review the local archive for problems. If those checks do not reveal the cause, YouTube says to consider a different encoder. |
| The encoder output looks and sounds healthy | Test the strength of the outbound internet connection. If the test indicates a problem, contact your internet service provider. |
This is a diagnostic split, not proof that one specific component is at fault. YouTube’s steps are in its live stream troubleshooting guide.
Test before the event and monitor while live
- Run a test with audio and movement comparable to the planned broadcast; a static image or silent test may not expose the same issues.
- Start the encoder before the event and check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, and messages before going live.
- Confirm that the broadcast is accessible on the channel or watch page and on mobile devices.
- While the event is live, keep monitoring audio and video quality so you can catch a returning warning or deterioration.
YouTube’s recommendations for preparation and monitoring are in its live streaming tips. For the encoder-based setup flow, see how to create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
