If a YouTube Premiere’s chat replay is missing, first open the video on its YouTube watch page—not in an embedded player. Then ask the channel owner to check the video’s “Live chat replay” setting, whether the archived video was edited in YouTube Studio’s video editor, and whether its audience is marked Made for Kids. YouTube says chat replay should be available after a Premiere, but its help pages do not document a way to recover replay that has already disappeared.
1. Open the Premiere on YouTube’s watch page
Go directly to the video on YouTube rather than viewing it in an embedded player on another site. YouTube’s guidance says live chat is available on watch pages, not in embedded players. If replay appears on the watch page, the issue was the viewing surface rather than the video’s replay setting.
YouTube says Premiere chat replay is available to viewers after the Premiere ends. If it is absent from the watch page too, continue with the checks below.
2. Check the “Live chat replay” setting
If you own or manage the channel, open the video in YouTube Studio and inspect its customization settings for “Live chat replay.” YouTube’s live-chat guidance says replay is on by default for live streams and describes toggling the setting for an archived video. Studio labels and menu placement can change, so look in the video’s current customization area if the setting has moved.

If you are a viewer, you cannot change a channel’s replay setting; ask the owner or a manager to inspect it.
3. Check whether the archive was edited in YouTube Studio
YouTube says live streams edited in its video editor will not have chat replay, regardless of the type of edit. This includes edits applied to the archived stream, so ask the channel owner whether the video was edited there.

YouTube’s guidance does not say that undoing an edit restores the replay. Do not assume that reverting the edit will bring the chat back.
4. Check the audience designation
When content is designated Made for Kids, YouTube disables live chat and live chat replay, among other features. The channel owner can inspect the audience designation in Studio. It should accurately reflect the content and comply with YouTube’s requirements; changing the classification just to try to restore chat is not an appropriate fix.

5. If replay is still missing
YouTube’s reviewed help guidance explains when replay is expected and circumstances that disable it, but does not describe a tool or procedure to regenerate or recover a replay that has already disappeared from an otherwise eligible archive.
- If you manage the channel, contact YouTube through its current help or support path. Include the video URL and details of any recent Studio edit or setting change.
- If you are a viewer, send the channel owner the video link and explain that replay is also missing on the YouTube watch page.
- Do not rely on a browser extension, local download, or third-party recovery service to retrieve server-side replay data; YouTube’s guidance does not establish that these can recover it.
Keep a future event’s chat available
For a future Premiere, confirm that the event is set up with chat and that the archived video’s “Live chat replay” setting is enabled. Avoid editing the archive in YouTube Studio’s video editor if you need its chat replay. These checks cannot restore chat from an earlier event, but they address the documented conditions that can prevent replay from appearing.
